  • I had this on my to do list and I can't remember why. I thought talking about the intercostal nerves, arteries and veins would be nice and quick, but it turned out to require a fair bit of anatomy chat.

    I hate myself for noticing his videos after such a long time, everything is explicit and easily simplified to understand. Thanks, Sam

    Most Anat professors take less than 2 minutes to tell all these, can anyone relate? 😂
    Thank you , Mr. Webster, very grateful !

    Amazingly complex lecture sir. Now I know one of the reasons I could not be a doctor! However as a meningomyelocele I have kept many of them busy for donkey's years! They say the body is a temple but mine is in line for a grant from English Heritage for restoration! Would you like it when I have gone?

    Hi Sam. I have suffered 14 different episodes of severe rib soreness over the last 3 years. Its important to mention that I have not suffered any trauma to justify this. Each episode comes on without reason and can last anywhere from 3 to 10 weeks. I am of the belief that I am suffering from either Intercostal Neuralgia or, and more likely because of the multipal areas of soreness, Neuritis. My concern is that I had breast cancer (right side) 7 years ago and have since read that a bundle of nerves potentially causing the rib soreness could be caused by a growth/tumour (benign or otherwise) pressing on a nerve bundle? Is it possible, from my description, to advise me what area a CT or MRI scan should be performed to determine what nerves may be impinged please? Most of the soreness is posterior, just under the right scapula and on the left side just above the floating rib. It’s excruciatingly painful and feels like I’ve been hit with a bat! I’m at my wits end and want to be able to go to my GP with a little bit of knowledge. I realise that there may be other causes for Inter Neuralgia but because of my past medical history can not afford to be caught up in the system with ‘it might be this or it could be that’! Any guidance would be truly appreciated Sam. Many thanks for sharing this video 👍🏼😁 top man!

    Hi sir, does the intercostal muscle twitch? I have it twitching for minutes on someday. Its on the outer left ribcage near the seratus.

    Hi, I was just wondering how you processed a lot of information. This was a lot of information to remember, although I am new to Anatomy. I felt really overwhelming. Do you cut it down bit by bit? How would you suggest to remember these I find your videos really well explained and I truly do watch all time

    Is the collateral blood supply from the posterior intercostal arteries the reason why the internal thoracic artery can be used for CABG? I really like your way of anatomy teaching with the somso models and your enthusiasm. It makes learning so much easier and fun! Already looking forward to the next video!

    • @SamWebster
      @SamWebster  Před 5 lety +1

      Part of the internal thoracic artery can be removed because of the large number of anastomoses in the anterior thorax between all of those anterior intercostal arteries and a whole network of interconnecting arteries deep to the sternum that I didn't talk about. There is some risk to vascularisation of some of the structures around there, like the sternum, but there are a whole bunch of advantages to using this blood vessel. I'm glad these are useful - quality may vary!
