      @themechanic6117 You live and learn. It was your first time changing cv boots and it didn't exactly all go according to plan. You're human. At least you're honest and down to earth. I've never changed CV boots. I usually just pay to have them swapped out. LOL! So I give you credit for trying it.

      @themechanic6117 and to be perfectly honest, forgetting something like the grease is something I could see myself doing so I can actually relate to this. 🤣

      It sucks, but it's part of the job. Usually the second time around it goes much faster

    Great job! I like the comedy too. We all mess up… it’s part of the learning process.

      The only thing worse is completely installing the part then realizing you forgot to put the grease in 🤣

    I actually used a very large thick zip tie because I didnt have the metal clamp on one of my cv boots. Its still doing its job and that was about a year and a half ago. Its one of those 'Its temporary unless it works' deals.

    • @themechanic6117
      @themechanic6117  Před 9 měsíci

      I thought about a zip tie for that center dampener and I may just do that. It's not like it's holding in grease or anything. 👍

    I did my fair share of Cv boots in the 90s and early 2000s, the outer joint bearing cage is high carbon brittle steal. The outer housing is forgiving. To knock the outer joint off hit the edge off the outer joint housing. Every once in I while I would miss and accidentally smack the cage and would instantly crack the cage and ruin the joint/axle. It’s risky knocking the joint off so the way you did it was a safer route

    Jon after assembly spray the rubber with silicone and the rubber will be playable and you never have to redo ever again!! Just spray them once every year .. and they will last .. been there done that ..

      Thanks for the tip ! I definitely don't want to keep doing this. I'm still finding grease all around my tools and garage

    Great video and nice job! Did you end up replacing the whole axle after a month? or the aftermarket boots are not leaking and still doing the job.. thx.

    • @themechanic6117
      @themechanic6117  Před 3 měsíci

      I just did a oil change on it today and noticed the new boots are holding up well. No leaks and no reason to replace the whole axle 👍

      It was frustrating working on my personal car, if this were a customers car I'd be upset that I screwed up so much, that's why I don't normally do this service lol

    Great job Nic ! , just don't tell the wife exactly what happened. Would you still recommend the Altima in this year, even with the cvt issues ? thanks

    • @themechanic6117
      @themechanic6117  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Normally I don't recommend these cars because of the cvt but at 140k our is still going but I also change the trans fluid every 30k miles
