That first round from the water was most likely not the ammo but rather hydrostatic pressure in the striker channel. This happens to any striker fired pistol that hasn't been modified to work with water. The standard PPQ, for example, will not fire the first shot out of water but the PPQ Navy will. The Glock can be picky with whether or not it will, but there are naval striker caps that can be purchased for those who need it to run out of the water. The VP9 has the same issue. Coming straight out of the water isn't something the gun was designed for, so you need to clear the water out of the striker channel and it will work.
thank you for the information about that firing pin channel i n÷ver knew that and i did see that the walther was unable to fire that first round thank you again
hag12100 They do compete. While a striker fired gun may get bogged with water for one round, it also provides more protection from dirt and sand to it's firing pin channel in most cases. A lot of mud and dirt malfunctions with hammer fired guns occur when enough junk gets behind the hammer to stop it from striking the firing pin with enough force to fire. It's not a case of a hammer or a striker being flat out better, just a case of different trade-offs. Unfortunately, the perfect pistol doesn't exist yet.
+ IMightBeWrong You're incorrect, respectively. The standard PPQ M2 will shoot the first round out of water. I own one myself (not the navy version) and Tim over at Military Arms Channel torture tested the PPQ and it flew through the gauntlet twice. He even slopped mud in the action more than the Glock and Rex zero (which was BS but oh well). So yeah, the m&p however could not pass that test because of the hydro static pressure.
SOMETIMES the PPQ will fire and sometimes not. ALL bets are off when you introduce mud, sand, water into a weapon. There has not been a weapon made yet that is 100% in those conditions. The AK probably comes close to perfection in nasty conditions but even it will malfunction at times when contaminants are introduced into the action. There is NO gun that is 100% IN THESE CONDITIONS. The Ruger did very well and I would trust it as much as any handgun but if you think there's a certain firearm that's 100% regardless then you would be taking the room temperature challenge in a combat situation.

I just bought this gun. Love it, I was flinching all the time you where torturing it and saying “poor little thing. That’s not how you treat a gun you sickos!!”
One of the smoothest shooting .45's I've ever shot. It's not snappy and the trigger is butter-smooth. I would trust this with my life over a lot of high-end hand-guns. For a budget gun, this is beyond exceptional and deadly accurate. I was hitting targets at 100 meters with it. Put 7 out of the 10 on a bowling-ball sized target. Definitely a gun that is not talked about enough. I would have loved to carry this over the clunky and roughed up Beretta M9 I carried overseas. The only complaints I have is that the mags are ridiculously hard to load but that makes for a good cycle. And the handle is a little bulky. Even the small one put a blister on my kitten-soft hands after about 500 rounds at the range. Never had a misfeed or a failure to eject but I've never put in it any rough conditions.
I recently just bought the Ruger American to me it is the best handgun that I have ever owned and I shoot on a regular basis like once a week and I've shot everything from o'clock to almost everything that's out there and this is by far the best feeling gun that I have ever owned or had the honor to play around with it is a amazing gun
hey so my slide relsea wont work on the right side do you guys know why it works on the left side but i am a left handed shooter ant it was a selling point on the gun
Owned my American .45 for over a month now. It has yet to have a single Hickok, I mean hick-up! Top notch A+ performance! I am convinced this is the very best Pro-Duty hand gun one can own!
Bought one new a couple days ago, love it but first time i took it to shoot, it jammed over and over, couldnt even get through more than 4 rounds with out a jam, took back and im having it worked on, seems like it was a machining error
So glad i purchased the Full Size 45acp...after watching this i am so glad i did ....Ruger makes Damm good Guns wonder if Glock or S&W could go through this ...i own them all .....so Happy to own my American Pistol...thanks for a great review!
As good as? In my opinion, yes. But it's completely different. I own both. Glocks seem to get a lot of parts upgraded. This only needs ammo. Too bad about the loooong trigger reset, my one gripe about the design.
I know it's not perfect but Ruger hit a home run with this gun! I can't wait to see one in my local gun store and get my hands on it! It seems like it's tough as hell!!!
I don’t have a Security 9 but I have shot one. Loved shooting it, but you really can’t compare the two. The one is full size and the other is not. I have a Ruger LC9s which which is comparable to the Security 9. Love the size of the smaller frame for a carry gun. To me, the American is a bit big but I do know a lot of people that carry full size guns. The American is way more fun to shoot at the range. Not sure any of this will help but good luck. I do know the grip on the Security 9 is better then the one on the LC9s.
Anyone know where I can get a sorting for mmt slide release. Just recently bought a ruger American from a friend and that's all that's wrong with it. I'm assuming he lost it while disassembling it.
ive shot guns that have really beat my thumb knuckle up pretty bad similar to what happened on MAC. did you have any discomfort shooting. i think hands vary in size and shape so that might be it.
+danneo65 5 of us put rounds through my gfs and no one said a thing. i brought up macs review then we shot more rounds and it was the same result. the gun barely kicks and if you get biting, change the back strap. we all shot with the small one on and 3 of us had larger hands. also only 2 of us pulled left, the other 3 were dead on. The only complaints all day were when my brother loaded hot rounds in his 44 mag without saying then had the weaker shooters shoot it
Ruger's website has several holsters available for this gun already from DeSantis, Blade-tech, CrossBreed and Safariland as well as mag pouches. Nice video!

+John Nagy Thats why I own 7 Rugers :)
That was an insane product test... I hope it becomes available in Ca soon...
hey so my slide relsea wont work on the right side do you guys know why it works on the left side but i am a left handed shooter ant it was a selling point on the gun
Owned my American .45 for over a month now. It has yet to have a single Hickok, I mean hick-up! Top notch A+ performance! I am convinced this is the very best Pro-Duty hand gun one can own!
Wow this gun is though as nails, great video 👍
Awesome video.
Bought one new a couple days ago, love it but first time i took it to shoot, it jammed over and over, couldnt even get through more than 4 rounds with out a jam, took back and im having it worked on, seems like it was a machining error
Ruger American pistol or m & p shield which one would you prefer
I felt myself getting pissed off watching someone mistreat a brand new pistol like that, and I knew it was a torture test! LOL!
So glad i purchased the Full Size 45acp...after watching this i am so glad i did ....Ruger makes Damm good Guns wonder if Glock or S&W could go through this ...i own them all .....so Happy to own my American Pistol...thanks for a great review!
Good video i just bought my ruger American today i love it
I like the way the gun field strips quick and easy
I just got one. I've only gotten to take it out once so far. I'll never do to it what you guys did. So far I'm happy with it though.
Let us know if you post it.
Looks good probably a great choice might try one right now I'm hanging on to the original tank Ruger p95 can't let it go.
Great video guys! Do you think it's as good as the 'Glock 17' ?
As good as? In my opinion, yes. But it's completely different. I own both. Glocks seem to get a lot of parts upgraded. This only needs ammo. Too bad about the loooong trigger reset, my one gripe about the design.
Great vid It made me want to run out and get one till I found out it can't handle a little beer, jeez!
Loading it with chew and rinsing with coors got you a thumbs up! I was wondering if it would survive one of our range trips!
I'm glad I got myself an American...
They pushed me over the edge with the dip and beer test 🤣
I know it's not perfect but Ruger hit a home run with this gun! I can't wait to see one in my local gun store and get my hands on it! It seems like it's tough as hell!!!
Got one recently, love it.
Very good torture testing video. New subscriber added
Just picked one of these up from a buddy of mine, looks like I made a good choice
Bought a Ruger American 9mm after watching this video!!!! Have had it 2yrs and love it.
Bob Laughton I’m torn between this and the security 9. Any thoughts between the two?
I don’t have a Security 9 but I have shot one. Loved shooting it, but you really can’t compare the two. The one is full size and the other is not. I have a Ruger LC9s which which is comparable to the Security 9. Love the size of the smaller frame for a carry gun. To me, the American is a bit big but I do know a lot of people that carry full size guns. The American is way more fun to shoot at the range. Not sure any of this will help but good luck. I do know the grip on the Security 9 is better then the one on the LC9s.
Bob Laughton thanks man!
Anyone know where I can get a sorting for mmt slide release. Just recently bought a ruger American from a friend and that's all that's wrong with it. I'm assuming he lost it while disassembling it.
Ruger will likely hook you up at little to no charge if you just call em
Great video mine just went from the safe to the carry!
"We don't endorse drinking while handling firearms, ever!" ... Poor's half empty beer on gun 🤫🤫😂 bad ass video
im not the biggest Ruger fan but this is impressive and seems to agree with everything else ive read about it, seems to be a contender
ive shot guns that have really beat my thumb knuckle up pretty bad similar to what happened on MAC. did you have any discomfort shooting. i think hands vary in size and shape so that might be it.
The only complaints all day were when my brother loaded hot rounds in his 44 mag without saying then had the weaker shooters shoot it
+populus tremulordes thanks for the reply for the the price it looks pretty solid.
Ruger's website has several holsters available for this gun already from DeSantis, Blade-tech, CrossBreed and Safariland as well as mag pouches. Nice video!
Good Ruger American Pistol Review and where to get holsters ruger american pistol pro model
