- Thanks to everyone that checked out my previous video when I first got this lens that includes initial thoughts and AF tests. (Check it out • NEW Sigma 14-24 2.8 Ar... )
I wanted to test it out on the DJI Ronin S since that's what I'll be using the most with this lens. In this video I show you sample footage at 14 and 24mm to see how it looks. VERY impressed. Also test out some photos from it. I forgot to mention the WEIGHT is very nice! I wasn’t at all feeling it being too heavy like I do with the 24-70 GM!
The Sigma 14-24 2.8 DG DN Art lens is going to be a big hit for Sony E-mount and other L-mount camera systems. What else are you looking for on this lens? What questions do you have?

So much hate on this video. I’m proud of you man! You’re killing it, keep doing what you love! You got a new fan right here
Thank you!
I already pre-ordered the lens because I shoot mainly landscapes, so, it should be a great addition to my arsenal. The camera does have correction built in to things that you are seeing, plus, software will correct anything else.
I love your reviews man. You made me buy the 14-24 and what an awesome lens
Albert Hermiz wow hey thanks man. I really want to get consistent with my videos, I have more to share! Just needing some free time to open up :)
Tracy Daniel Davis if you ever come to Sydney Australia, let me know. I’ll show you all the hot spots.
Great review, i will be ordering mine soon. 😀 for the filters you can check out haida rear lens nd filter kit, available at b&h. Cheers from Canada.
You can see vignetting in photographs but not in video because camera auto correct for the vignetting, chromatic abbreviation and probably distortion as well.
Hey man, great review. Im curious as to what gimbal you used this lens on? Im having troubles with my Ronin SC and the cameras view finder hitting the gimbal. Thanks!
This is the original Ronin S. You have a just adjust it as you go but you want to make sure it’s balanced properly first anyway and go from there.
thanks Jackson this was really helpfull... loving this lens and will order the same in couple ofdays
Yo DUUUUVAAAL!!! Was looking for reviews for this lens and found you here :D
Very good overview of the lens and how you shot the video and pictures.
Ken Poindexter Thank you!
Also a great review, thanks for that👍
Great review Tracy!!!
The photos were overexposed, i usually set the histogram on my screen to see the correct exposure before clicking the shutter and adjust the shadows later in LR. I hope this helps. Anyway, thanks for the reviews I just ordered this lens excited for it this weekend!!
Russel Ryan Esperat Yea I wasn’t really going for great photo exposure necessarily. It was so hot lol.
Yeah...he said that. :)
@@TracyDavis904 But what use is a review if you don't care to make proper exposure? Heck, we're talking the fundamentals here.
Orio Menoni I said this in the review. Also, the shots aren’t really that over exposed. Just move on to another video if you aren’t happy. Thanks.
Fire Vid bro , praying for u 🙏🔥
Thank you!
Great video Tracy! I was on the fence about going with this lens or the Tamron 17-28mm. Just pulled the trigger on the Sigma. Thanks for the info. BTW... When are you going to do the Gear Tour?
Miles2Go Photography thank you! I want to do it soon, struggling to find time as I’m finishing up some client work!
What’s the coma and astigmatism like? Any chance of taking a couple of Milky Way/star photos please?
Thanks for a great review, really considering buying this lens, just can't decide between Tamron 17-28 and this one. You can put ND-filter to this lens. But not to the front because of protruding front element. Filters are attached to the rear part of the lens. I think Irix makes gelatin ND-filters that should be compatible with this lens.
Yes compatible with Irix Edge Gelatin ND Filter Set 29 x 29 mm ND4/ND8/ND16
Haida has a ND set and A M15 filters for the front
I don’t know if this is the answer, but does Sony apply lens profile corrections to video in camera?
yes, it does. same as to jpegs.
It would be great to see something like: this lens VS Samyang / Rokinon 14 mm. Sharpness, distortion, gimbal work. Thanks for the video, btw!
Pavel Shin This lens is hands down better in every way and can be trusted for professional work whereas the Rokinon can’t.
I was a little worried this lens would be too heavy to balance on a mirrorless with the Ronin.
Raymond Isbill it’s a relatively light lens.
@@TracyDavis904 sure doesn't feel light lol. I'm renting it next week so we will see. The Canon version that is. We'll see how it does with the EOS R.
Thank you for the video! Were you using any ND filters to expose correctly or did you crank the shutter?
Michael Young Kim Had to crank shutter! Still figuring out the ND situation!
Just wondering since you are shooting on a A7iii also, I just got the Ronin SC and would like to know if this Lens would work on that gimbal? I really like the lens but if it won't work on the SC then I will have to go with the Samyang 14mm 2.8. sure would appreciate your thoughts
Curious about the same but on a Weebill S. Right now I use the non art 12-24 sigma and a Tokina 11-16mm for photo/video respectively. Would love to combine the two!
Would also like to know, any update on that?
SC should be fine with this lens.
The only thing would be ND filter, I’d still keep my FE16-35. Otherwise, I’d buy this.
you can use ND on Sigma, it's just going in the back of the lens instead of front;)
The 120fps in 1080p crops in a little bit. That’s probably why you’re not seeing vignetting
Nícollas Dias I was shooting either 60fps or 24.
Nice video. Still undecided about this lens or the tamron 17-28 2.8. Any thoughts? :)
Matt Hoffman Get whichever one fits your budget
Hi, have you ever had Tamron 17-28mm ? Im more considering to buy Tamron because of the weight. Sigma is almost 3 times of Tamron weight. lol
SMOKEYoriginalHD Check our my last video as well, I think I talk a bit about it. But no I haven’t. Tamron lenses seem to work well but are too plastic-y for me!
it's just double the weight, not 3 times. Also for real estate and wedding photography, Tamron is not good enough. I got both lenses but I send Tamron back and kept Sigma which is better color contrast and sharper lens plus the range is much better 14mm instead of 17meh. I was thinking to keep Tamron for gimbal work only but didn't really want to pay $900. If you do street photography youtube.......then Tamron is fine.
@@royzargo8642 thanks for this info. I bought A7III just for a personal use from passion and maybe later I might try to get some money out of it but as you said the color contrast is better then I would go for that one. I want to shoot nature for now and in general photos of buildings and so on. Just a random stuff. But it's true those 14mm are much wider. I would love to see some comparison on CZcams with Tamron and Sigma side by side. I'm considering the Sigma now.
@@SMOKEYoriginalHD did you decide? Im having trouble cant find a comparison between the two
@@feeltheeffect85 I'm still thinking about Sigma. But Sigma is not released officially yet. It should be released in the beginning of October so I will wait till someone will make more comparison videos. But another thing why Im thinking about Sigma is those 14mm vs Tamron 17mm. The only thing that kinda bothers me are filters on Sigma. Btw about the weights, its 800g, its just double the weight of Tamron. That is fine, I thought its 1100g but that was the old Sigma, not the new one that I looked up.
Is this lens good for vlogging, have you noticed any focus sound while vlogging with attached mic. I am quite confused to get this or tamron 17-28 for vlogging. I have tamron 28-75 which is brilliant lens. thank you if you read this.
Andaz Rai zero motor noise :)
How is the autofocus noise in video mode? :)
Non existent :)
Maybe there is no vigneting due to the crop in video..?
I’m not aware of any crop on the A7 iii though?
@@TracyDavis904 it certainly crops the top and bottom of the frame to go from a 3:2 aspect ratio to 16:9. That should be enough to get rid of the vignetting in the extreme corners.
Many sigma objectives have a pump autofocus at videomodus. How is it with this 2019 14-24? I want to buy sigma 24-70 and maybe later 14-24 too.
Steff_en As you can see in the video, it’s great. Check my other video on this lens for a better auto focus test.
Do you have to re balance your gimbal if you use different focal lengths with this lens
Not this lens, changing focal lengths doesn’t extend it out like other lenses.
Thanks so much. What a great video Tracy! I jumped in here and asked the question immediately, finally had a chance to watch the entire vid
I have bought it the sigma 14 24 dg dn 2.8 and i have sony a7iii body will i be able to use this setup on ronin sc or i have to go with ronin s i have in plan running shots real estate videos etc...
martin petkov Good luck! It’s an awesome lens.
Can ronin SC handle that lens with sony ?
antek dinh pretty sure!
What camera body you shooting with?
DragonBoy33 A7 iii
Have you found any nd filter for this?
Philip Zullo yes! Look for a video soon!
Thanks for this tentative review but the footage was largely blown out and the stills too were overexposed. It is difficult to evaluate a lens from these images. You should remake the review with images properly exposed.
Orio Menoni I mentioned those things within the review and how it’s quite difficult to shoot video without a way to put an ND filter on it. The shots aren’t really that over exposed anyway.
Tracy Daniel Davis I checked your previous video on the lens, and it was overexposed, too. It seems to be a permanent problem that you have there.
Orio Menoni I wasn’t shooting for a client. I didn’t care. I’m a professional videographer that gets paid for this, not to do online reviews. If you’re just going to be a troll, best move on.
Yikes...
Daniel, cool you are doing videos reviews, but why not just show the video fullscreens? Maybe just show a whole broll sequesce instead of crippling your videos by showing us a fcpx view, bit boring imo.
I wanted it to be more of a commentary along my timeline so that I could scrub around the project where I wanted. Thanks.
she doesnt care anything about video ... YET ... sooner she will lol
