    The Sony’s rocking the $3,000 price tag and that’s enough for me to back away. 2mm on the wide end might matter more for video, but no paid gig will differentiate if you deliver good 14mm content

      For landscape, would you recommend a 14-24 or a 16-35 lens?

    • @TrevorMcGrathPhotography
      @TrevorMcGrathPhotography Před 3 lety +3

      @@chrispy4u2 For year's in my canon days the 16-35 was a staple. I'm now on Sony and the 14-24 is my go-to wide-angle. As for filters you just have to be prepared to use the 150mm size.
      I twin the 14-24 with the Sony 24-105 and the Sigma 100-400 and I'm totally covered for stills.
      For timelapse on my other camera body I use the TT Artisan 11mm Fisheye, the Vogtlander 12mm and the Zeiss Batis 18mm
      The 16-35 might be better suited to your needs when filters are added but only you will know this.

      @@chrispy4u2 Thats a lot money for one lens. Looks at all the options and how that focal range fits into you covering all you need. Think 16mm to at least 200mm and even up to 400. From there make out your budget and the best quality you can afford to buy.
      Sigma Art range is unreal quality

    • @josecbm89
      @josecbm89 Před 2 lety

      @@chrispy4u2 it depends on how do you work. Usually 16-35 is a more polivalent lens, but for me (I was 4 years shooting with a prime 14mm 90% of the time) even 14 mm is not enough. If I bought the sigma it was due to 2mm and slightly better optic don't worth the extra 1700€ for me, but man, sometimes I missed it.

    I like the fact that Sony probably thinks you made a video supportive of their G-master lens, but in reality you convinced me to get the Sigma because like you, I am not a UWA photography buff and in reality - the difference you showed between 12 and 14 won't matter because the number of times I'll use that lens at 14 is already so rare, that its not like I use it perpetually at 14 and would give a right arm for just a little more width. Thanks for your unintended recommendation!

    After using both for quite a while, I actually think both are really good value, despite the massive price tag of the Sony. I've been lucky with my copy, pretty much perfectly centered at all focal lengths. Staggeringly sharp too, at 24mm my 12-24 GM is sharper in the centre than both of the 24mm GM lenses I've had. That thing is known for it's sharpness, and this zoom beats it (on both A1 and Riv, so a true test of sharpness at high res).

    I struggle now finding use cases for my 14mm-24mm @14mm, my favorite wide-angle lenses are the Sigma 20mm 1.4 and Sony 24mm 1.4. Fast moderate wide-angle lenses are much more useful to me than zooms at 2.8, but that is me, I'm sure real-estate photographers appreciate having a 12mm option.

    The corners at f/13 is what to test. Test distortion, test vignetting. f/13 is the best for corner-to-corner sharpness. Sigma 14mm is great for architecture and interior. 12mm would make it wide and unnatural. The idea of the 12-24mm flexibility should be for movies but for photos the Sigma 14mm f/1.8 should remain a winner for that ultimate one-shot quality.

    Just like how a wallet can cost 5AUD in Kmart but an LV can cost up to a 1000AUD. They basically do the same thing and I am not judging anyone who's going over LV over Kmart.

    always TOP Manny! I just presented on my channel 35mm 1.4 Samyang. Have you ever tried on Sony?

    This is a specialty lens that few people have the budget for. I'd mount the 10-18 f/4 aps-c lens on a FF body if I really need that 12mm FOV.

      There is a significant difference between a 12mm and 15mm field of a view.

    For that price point, I think the 2mm is negligible. $1500 is too wide of a difference for the differences in spec of the lenses. Great video man!

    Hey man, quick opinion appreciated , looking for an ultra-wide for my Sony A7 IV ; torn between Sony 14mm 1.8 and Sigma 14-24 ; both are somewhere in the same price range that I can afford ; please advice

  • @sunnyoutdooradventures

    How was the flaring in both the lenses? It seems like the Sony was built to handle this better then their f/4

    Damn 2mm does make a difference but if everything else compares the same I wouldn’t pay an extra almost 2 grand for the extra 2mm

    Hey Manny, is the AF really the same? My Sigma has a f... pumping before it comes sharp! Used on the 7R4...

    Damn, great video! Intro sequence very fresh and helped me actually decide on getting the Sigma version as I don't need the extra mm and weight and price are major factor. Ryan Cassell put me on to your page, taking notes and look forward to following along

    Hi can someone help me, my wife is newish to photography and has a Canon 90d 15-55mm standard lens and has a cropped sensor 1.5, (whatever that mean) she wants to buy the Irix 15 - 2.4 wide angle lens .. The question is will the Irix add "wide angle" compared to the standard lens she has ? Is the 500 euro worth it ? She thinks it may not add much more side angle depth to the photo than with the standard lens she got with the camera .. If anyone can help wld be greatly appreciated 🙏
