Like, it made me really happy when Noel said that this stuff makes more sense after she explained that she didn’t have the childhood she wanted. He roasts people for sure, but he also sees the difference between people like this woman and people like that guy who had his ribs removed. Noel taking the time to unpack parts of this video and try to empathize is one of the reasons I love his content so much!

Age regression is sometimes a reaction/coping mechanism used by survivors of childhood trauma. I don't think Noel was wrong when he said something bad had to have happened. Bullying can actually leave lasting trauma in the brain, and her way of coping was mentally regressing to an age that she felt safe and comfortable. While it does seem to help some people, in Riley's case it's a maladaptive coping mechanism. It's gone from something that can help her to something that's taken over her life. Noel's other point about holding down a job was interesting also, her trauma may have been so severe that it's literally holding her back from living a normal life. I also slightly question the authenticity of her therapist/specialist when she said "it's not possible to make her change", IT IS. She can change through lots of vigorous cognitive behavioral therapy, all behaviors can be modified and changed, and she can learn the coping mechanisms she needs to live a normal life.

Yuh Yuh I mean there are cases where that has happened. Abusive past -> trans -> detransition after body went through surgery and hormones. Maybe not everyone who had a harsh past detransitions when they’re older but a majority do. Oh-and that shit bothers me so much though when people say you don’t need dysphoria to be trans. Yeah, I voluntarily want to be uncomfortable with myself and hate both leaving my house and just sitting at home feeling awful. 😩👌

@@summers9052 Are you sure you're not thinking of age regression therapy? That's done under the supervision of a professional and is a type of hypnotherapy. I've heard that can be effective form of treatment for trauma. Admittedly I'm not a big advocate for hypnosis because of it's ability to be misused but it's undeniable that it can be effective. I've not heard anything about this type of age regression being anything more than a way to relieve stress.
It's also clearly unhealthy for Riley because she's become emotionally dependent on it. I do agree she's not hurting anyone but I feel like she's doing herself a disservice spending so much time doing this rather than seeking professional help. I am always open to the possibility that I'm wrong, but I've never heard of such a time-consuming coping mechanism requiring so much commitment being a superior form of treatment for trauma than actual therapy
