QDM and QDR Explained Using The RMI! [Most Common Pilot Job Interview Question ANSWERED].

  • In today's video, we are going to talk about QDM, QDR, and Ground Station Quadrant.
    The QDM is the relative bearing to the Station, the station can be a VOR or an NDB.
    The QDM is used to fly inbound to your selected ground station, so, if you want to fly to your VOR you simply need to set the QDM on your heading.
    The QDR is the relative bearing from the ground station. The QDR will tell you on which radial (from the VOR) your Aircraft is located.
    So, if you look at the QDR you will know on which radial you are.
    A very common question asked to the Pilot during a job interview is: In which VOR quadrant is your Aircraft located?
    In order to answer this question, you need to find out what is your QDR. Once you know your QDR you simply located the aircraft in one of the 4 quadrants. So, if you have a QDR from 0 to 90 you will be on the first quadrant, a QDR from 091 to 180 you'll be on the second quadrant, from 181 to 270 you will be on the third and from 271 to 360 you will be on the 4th quadrant.

    Hello Captain, very useful video, I needed this one. I have a question as usual 😂
    I understand that the QDM is pointing towards the VOR and the QDR is the tail (the radial we're in). But what about the "TO" and "FROM"? If i select VOR on the EFIS Panel of my 737-800 I get these two and instinctively I'd say that when "TO" shows up I'm flying inbound the VOR (the distance is given by the DME and the "CRS" should be the one selected on the MCP) whereas if the plane shows "FROM" I'm flying outbound the VOR, so I'm getting further away and not closer. Is that right? Thanks for the video and the time you dedicate to these amazing contents :)

    • @PILOTCLIMB
      @PILOTCLIMB  Před 2 lety +1
