    In the UK it doesn't seem to be available in the red. Only thing I could find was a Donner starter pack with a burst finish (model DST-1) strao, gig bag mini amp etc. For £110. If it's the same guitar in a different finish I suppose it's not a bad deal for a beginner.

    A lot of the inexpensive guitars really look good. This one is really really pretty and sounded fine. I ordered the Monoprice one as a test and it was a beautiful blue burst. The general price/quality ratio re music gear has made leaps and bounds in progress, like I never thought I'd see or something. Growing up during the 70s, gear was gaspingly expensive, and despite the romanticism of people who got defecated from the womb 6 months ago already strangely imbued with miraculous levels of musical talent which would make Beethoven commit suicide in despair (another beyond-strange development, which can only be explained by, like, aliens), the average piece of music gear sucked. The shining examples which people now who couldn't name a single Beatle without going to Wiki from the 50s-70s they worship were exceptions. To me, it's absolutely surreal that I can grab the lousiest-looking Squier in a music store, and it will be perfectly decent. That NEVER used to happen. ...I'm 60, lol.

Not a fan of satin necks but on the CV they are super sticky gloss ! The Donner looks like a great starter guitar or if you were a Tele guy but fancied a Strat you probably couldn’t go wrong with this and the humbucker sounds good -maybe a single coil would be too high -pitched unless you can roll off the tone .

    Realistically, electronics have to do one thing--carry electricity to the right circuits at the right times. If they do that successfully and hold up under repeated cycles and mechanical movements with proper use, then you got a great piece of electronics. That said, I've yet to head anyone say, "I've used some potentiometers in my time and I gotta tell ya...THESE...are the greatest potentiometers ever made. The other ones I had exploded in my guitar and made the guitar go out of tune and stuff."

  • @noi5emaker
    @noi5emaker Před 3 lety +1

    Love your videos . You always make me laugh! "Get your mind out of the gutter"!
    You asked about cheap electronics: Reliability can be an issue. Cheap pots have varying tolerances, so a 250k might actually be a lot more or less which can make the pickups sound brighter or muddier, and would explain why reviews of the same guitar can vary so much. Pickup don't have to sound exactly like Fender (in this case) to be good, but people might expect them to sound like the Fender-type sounds in their head. If you're expecting a classic warm alnico 3 sound, you won't get it from a ceramic magnet. To me, better pickups, particularly hand wound ones, have more complexity and richer overtones. When you turn down, the notes still have definition and they can handle overdrive better. That's what I have found anyway.

    Hey Landon, a couple of questions on this. Did you mention somewhere in your video that the affinity can’t be upgraded with fender parts ie: loaded pickguard? Have you looked at the Xavier guitars from guitarfetish.com?

    Hey there, I enjoy your videos. I'm just getting into to guitar at the age of 37 so I'm not looking to invest a lot of money in what my be a fleeting infatuation. Any chance you have your hands on a Sawtooth brand guitar as this Donner and the Sawtooth (mainly because they have more paint options at this price point) seem to be where I'm focusing in on. Info on the entry level Sawtooth seem to be hard to come by outside of a video by GuitarMax and he didn't tear it down or go through the specs. If you have already reviewed that guitar and I've simply missed, please link me to the video, if not, consider this a request :) Keep up the great work.

    Does anyone know what the neck pocket width is on the Donner strat? Is it the same size as a Fender strat neck pocket? Will a Fender neck fit?

      That just doesn't make one lick of sense whatsoever to me, I don't get it. What exactly is the point in attempting to acquire Fender guitar parts to put them into or on to a cheap ass guitar body, I mean what do people get out of this? To each their own certainly, but IMO it's the same as getting a bunch of Cadillac parts and slapping them on a Datsun/Nissan. One could do that all day long, but when all is said and done, it's not gonna be a Caddy, it's still a Datsun/Nissan. I guess my point is if I wanted a Fender, I'd get one. If I wanted a Gibson, I'd get a Gibson, because no matter how hard ya try, ya can't polish a turd.

    i don't know how a company can build and sell an instrument for $100, just paying the labor would seem to make it less than cost effective.

      Glarry/HarleyBenton do them even a few bucks cheaper. It is staggering what level of instrument you can get if you combine "cheaper" cuts of wood, clone hardware, CNC machining and automation, and (ultimately the biggest factor) very low wage emerging economies. Then ship it half way round the world, and still make money.

    I have no faith in manufacturer gifted guitar reviews. First the reviewer is accepting a gift and more importantly I believe that the gift guitar has been hand picked. I have some experience with these cheap guitars, mostly out of curiosity because of CZcams reviews, and my experiences have not been good. I do not view these gift guitar reviews as being an accurate depiction because I don't believe that the guitars are randomly picked.

      hey there! I can understand being skeptic of stuff like this. Did you watch my unboxing video: czcams.com/video/1p8UFp3EAU4/video.html
      They made no efforts to send me anything special. It was sent directly from Amazon, and wasn't even double boxed. I would be more skeptical of a CZcams channel that doesn't say where they get their reviewed guitars from (free or purchased) :)

    • @shooter4473
      @shooter4473 Před 3 lety +1

      It is not a criticism of you personally Landon, it is a criticism of the premise of free guitars for reviews. I am sure that you are honest. I own twentysomething guitars probably closer to thirty. I would have to go through five rooms of my house to count them all, and YES my wife ISN'T happy about it. I have purchased a few cheap guitars that have received rave reiews from career CZcamsrs and my experience has sometimes been totally opposite of the reviewer and not in a good way. Two in particular. It was if I was was sent B-stock guitars while paying for A-stock. It is just that I believe that many of these reviewed guitars are hand picked knowing that they will be reviewed on CZcams.@@landonbailey
