youre always ahead of what im looking for... Circuit, digitakt and now Audiofuse.
Thanks Bo!
+Miguel Toran thank you sir!
Thanks Bo, I ordered one based on your review and assistance.
Any time my friend
great review mate, keep it up
So I bought this audio interface. Design tolerances are solid and tight, the box is very well constructed. I use it on Windows 10 and it connects to Bitwig and Studio One beautifully, running 128 sample rate i get 4.5 Ms latency. Audio recording is high quality. Things i dont like, mini usb is a compromise but the connection itself is well constructed. USB hub is very useful for additional connections. One comment on the temperature of the unit. it does get quite warm. But according to Arturia this is normal and to be expected, the aluminium box is designed to be the heat sink (as per their support FAQ). Its a great audio interface if you are wanting something portable, with most if not all functions available on the top, and plenty of input and output options. The cover is also a nice touch to protect the device when traveling. Happy with the purchase.
Great feedback mate!
Fusion 1994 sorry if this is a dumb question but can you send audio via usb hub too? That would be amazing for recording with boutiques.
NeoLudditevisons Yes, you can.
Sorry I didnt get back to you sooner, my equipment is currently in transit from one country to another so am unable to check this right now.
Fusion 1994 I did it a few days ago with a JU-06 into Logic via the Audiofuse using USB. It works.
Great review Bo, very balanced between your personal opinion and all tech stuff!
Thank you Jakob! And thanks for the share! Its definitely good with iOS and that USB functionality seems to be a little unique is not?
BoBeats Well it is a bit unique yes. The only one who has that is the Novation Audiohub 2x4. :)
I definitely needed to see this. It helps a lot. Thanks.
Cheers!
4:30 Thumbs up for the comment about listing to something familiar when being critical is how I operate. When testing speakers in store I always use the Nine Inch Nails "down in it" from the Pretty Hate Machine album. The sub 808 kick on the first beat speaks volumes to me after a quarter of a century.
Thanks for a good and educational review. I really like it. Even though it's five years old and the Audiofuse you are showing is the first generation and, not Rev 2, the core functionality of the two generations seem to be the same. They have just updated some specs. So I find it more relevant to hear your opinion from daily use that those who focus solely on specs. I am totally able to read spec sheets myself. What I want is the user experience. Good job. 😊👍
Love it
Great video review Bo! Where do you get those angled mic cables? Tack på förhand!
Awesome interface, awesome upload! :)
Thank you mate!! =)
Im a fan and user of Arturia products, I use my microbrute all the time and my beatstep, all their IOS apps and some of their desktop stuff, but when I was shopping for an audio interface this wasnt available or I more than likely would be using it, so I ended up with the Apogee Duet for Mac and IOS, which Im very pleased with. This definitely has more features than the duet, but I really wish I could do a side by side sound comparison between the two.
+Jon Lindsey the duet is awesome! Such a portable interface and great sounding
Nice bit of kit Bo, I've just received my Digitakt so I've got a lot of studying to do lol
+David Thompson nice!! Be sure to hit me up next live stream if you have questions!! :-)
I will Bo
Thanks for your review. i have still one question. How many Channels could be recorded at the same time. in Garageband iOS for instance.
nice review.
i´d like to buy one of these but can´t afford it.
do you know any other interface with instrument inputs (guitar/bass) and a phono preamp in it( for sampling)?
Hey Bo :) Quick question. If I input the master out of my Yamaha synth mixer into the Fuse, will it sound good ? Thanks. Lots of love
KRK ROKITs F.T.W. bo, I enjoy the KRKs to be honest, I have their KRK headphones 8400 I am surprised you didn't mention audio technica mate. So you would you recommend it in 2019? or do you think we're better off shopping around?
Hi, thanks for the video! I wonder if it is possible to control the volume level with apple keyboard. Many external audio interfaces has volume controls greyed out on MacOS. I wonder if that is the case for arturia as well? Googled a bit but can't find something about it, would really appreciate if you could answer!
been eyeing this up since it came out....thanks for making me want it again jerk! lol but nah....im saving for one of the elektrons....thats like having another interface as a bonus anyway! so cool!
Still VERY happy with my UR28m. =-)
I like the fact that you can plug in a record player with phone and earth ... is there anything else on the market similar but cheaper?
"It would be shame otherwise..." made me laugh ^^
;)
Thanks, how is the audio quality. Personally for me the features come later. More concerned about the preamps etc.
I wonder why NI komplete audio 6 isn't in the high ends segment. Any experience with NI komplete audio 6?
hey fantastic video Bo! One question: can the two Phones outputs be programmed as the Scarlett 18i8 with the software mixer?
+Luigi Riccardo Testa thank you! I am not sure what you mean exactly. Can you describe it? In general the Arturia Control center does not offer as much control as the Focusrite. But you have 2x Cue outputs etc so there is possibility to send different mixes for sure
In my Focusrite 18i8, less portable than AudioFuse, I can program with software Scarlett MixControl what virtual output to send through the outputs phones (drive.google.com/file/d/0BxtIoF_Vs39VeFlFMTJ1dm10aUk/view?usp=sharing). Does the Arturia Control Center offer this much?
how do you reset? because it throws me some errors and I uninstall it but it continues to listen, so I want to know if it can be reset, thanks
I've Been Having the arturia Rev 2 For 2 years An Do You Think the Unit Have Noisy Pre-Amps After Using It After a Year
Hey Bo! What's the main differences between input 1/2 and 3/4 on the back. Do they use the same high quality preamps? I want to use 3/4 to keep my synths plugged in 24/7 then 1/2 for extra recordings.
+Robbie Bull 1/2 and 2/3 features different type of connections but as line inputs go I cant say I notice any difference
Howdy, well done video. I appreciate you caught your own error and realized one of your drawbacks was not actually a drawback. One note... you kept using the term "sound card." I generally think of sound cards as an internal audio expansion card. These devices seem to fit the "audio interface" category of device. My only nitpick. Enjoyed the vid and it's gotten me seriously considering the AudioFuse, though it may be out of my budget for awhile. What interfaces do you like in the lower budget world? Thanks!
Thanks! I am not a very nit picky person :)
Keep on doing awesome vids! Happy music making!
Hi Bo, when describing the sound you said it was good. But not great? I know that sound is subjective but one would think it would sound great - just checking with you. I'd love to know how it compares against the Babyface Pro soundwise?
Its very hard with these comparisons unless you are incredibly knowledgeable and have a great listening enviornment. I have used the card now for a couple of weeks and I am actually very happy with the sound quality. It does sound easily as good as my Clarett 8 PRE thunderbolt interface. But I can't say if the Babyface is better or not. Havn't tried it side by side. The known brands in this market are ofc very safe bets.
BoBeats the Clarett is a great piece and if it compares to that, then I'm happy. I've heard recordings with the RME and the high frequency never encourages any high frequency symblance on vocals.... which to me is always a good test.
What are usb ports for then since they don't transfer midi?
Midi: do you mean that you can't control a midi device from a master keyboard plugged into the AudioFuse?
Hi nice very nice review!!!! I was wondering if you could answer this question... Is it possible to use output A and B at the same time ??? I mean, for ex, in your DAW you have 4 mono instruments recorded, and may be you could route then like guitar to A(L) and bass to A(R) (thats speaker 1) and keyboard to B(L) and drums to B(R) (thats speker 2).... is that possible??? like presonus studio 26 or scarlet 2i4 . . .THanksssss
I think so, but you should directly with Arturia
I read this has a lithium battery in it, is this correct?
Hello! Good night, I'm between an Arturia Audiofuse or an Apogee Duet, what would you recommend? thanks: 3 i work in Windows and in live i use my ipad with Bias FX
Very hard for me to say. I have very little experience with the Duet :-/
thxs :3 , but in yoor experience with Audiofuse all work fine or you have problems with him?
Does it work with Auria?
Thank you. I was going to get one because of the USB ports, as it does not transfer midi it is no good to me. I wanted to remove the connections from my iMac but looks like this will not resolve that issue. What a shame. So very nearly a purchase.
+Giveme Datbass well it does transfer midi data! It just doesnt work as a midi usb host. It works just as any usb port for midi. Usb midi host means that it cant send midi directly from the midi in/out to the usb without a DAW or other software. See for example Kenton USB host
Could you play a turntable through it when it is not connected to a computer? Direct out to powered monitors? Thanks.
+Funkbutterfly yes this should work
What’s the deal with this thing on iOS 13. Or should I ask... *listens for an imploding sound*
Apogee Duet for Ipad & Mac works as a USB Host if anybody was wondering
Thats super!
My next one
Sound quality compared to a Apollo Twin? :o
Wow its full of connections
The "soundtrack" is yours? I loved the groove.
+Marco Polli thanks man :-) its all my music
HI, Bo. Which machine did you use to make the music at the beginning? Did you use samples or original presets? Thanks.
Maybe record the same track from your circuit on a few sound cards? Baseline it with the audio in on the MacBook (which should suck), then maybe a cheap MAudio, then this? Might be good to run it against another high end card...
It'd just be good to hear a comparison recording from the same audio source.
Its a good idea! The main reason why I did not was time combined with a philosophy that I do not want to turn this passion into to something which reminds me of my research work. Recordings and making good A/B comparisons needs a solid method, and I do not have one. But its definitely something I am considering.
BoBeats eh, you can be a bit lazy with research methodology here, don't over complicate it! Just running the same track through your internal sound card and then the Arturia is probably more than enough. It's not a particularly fair comparison, but so long as you make note of that, it hardly matters ;)
You are probably right! Its more a mindset issue. If I get the time I will definitely try
lol, that is kind of the hard part about hobbies. Turning off the part of yourself that *insists* everything be done the best way you possibly know how to do it. Personally I find that trying to do everything perfectly just...stresses me out. So I tend to "suffice" at work and at home I just don't allow myself to care. I tend to enjoy things a lot more when I do what is fun and try not to worry about it being of "the highest" quality.
Not sure why I'm saying this to a psychotherapist/professor who knows way more about it than me, but hey, I'm feeling chatty and here I am ^_^.
Oh you can know a lot about a subject and still need kind reminders. Advice to others is one thing and actually changing your behaviour yourself is quite another. So thank you
DSP?
Bo , I really liked your review. I just ordered an AudioFuse and I keep hearing that it’s glitchy , buttons don’t respond, the unit is so hot . I just wanted to know if the unit is stable in what you have experienced, I know your busy guy , just really like the features of this interface, and I trust your judgment. Thanks for all the great content that you do . Cheers
+Brian Garrison so Brian I have tried it a lot since my review. And I find that it is pretty solid. It does become warm but it is a feature since the body is a heatsink. I have had no issues with any ports. I am not a power user tho: I have had mine hooked up, I only occassionally plug new stuff into it. No glitches or bugs that I have stumbled upon. But I am also a careful user and rarely have issues with any of my gear. All my buttons respond well.
BoBeats Thanks Bo for the quick reply, and by the way that video you shot walking in that beautiful woods area was very cool , looks like a great place to get way and unwind. Thanks again
3 years since you’re comment but I had gotten the first version and it was mad glitchy I returned it right away. I am hoping to grab the rev 2 version because the rev 1 had the BEST sound I have ever heard in an interface plus the preamp , you end up with this interface or another?
@@rylandweet7750 I totally agree about the Audiofuse being one of the best sounding interfaces, I ended up selling it , and I just recently got the RME Fireface UCX ii which just came out, so far I am enjoying it, it’s stable and the drivers are great too. I thought about picking up v2 of the AudioFuse , I know it got great pres and sound, but I decided to go with RME. If they fixed the glitches in v2 , I’m sure you will be happy with it
@@briangarrison2021 nice I always was curious about those firefaces, how would
You compare the converters and the pres of the rme to the audiofuse? I am wanting to get the highest quality for vocals specifically
small form factor, bloody Hell it ideal for lugging round any where by the looks of it, it would fit nicely in you hand luggage on a cheap flight he he
Would this be an upgrade from a Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 in terms of sound quality? Can it be powered via usb?
Thanks
Yeah it should be a slight upgrade at least. Very hard to quantify. And yes it can be powered over usb
Could one use it to midi control synths on the iPad with the Digitakt? If not, what hat would be the most affordable and small iConnectivity alternative to use iPad synths with the Digitakt? Thank you!
+Olaf Wolkenhauer I think you should be able to connect the Digitakt with just a camera connection kit and send midi cc over the usb. But I have not tested it. But since you need a camera connection kit anyway its always a cheap way to start
BoBeats Thank you for the prompt, late night response! The camera connection kit is no good because I want to geed the audio from the iPad into the DT (and not via headphone). Looking at Jacob's Korg Plugkey video now ....
+Olaf Wolkenhauer aha! Now I understand. I think AudioFuse might be a little overkill perhaps.
Looks like a nice unit. *checks price*
Damn, $600 for that? They're going for that Apogee Apollo Twin money. I'm happy with my 8 input Presonus card for now so I don't need an input but man oh man, I'd have a hard time paying that much for an Arturia.
Good review, Bo.
+Matt Greer Music yeah they are going for a different market segment for sure! Thanks Matt!
Actually the Twin costs more. The Duet is the same price.
Do you have any audio samples of mic'd vocals or acoustic guitar?
+Larry Russell sorry no. But there are some other reviews of this interface that does, check drmix review
BoBeats I did. It wasn't enough tho.... For me now it's between this or the Babyface Pro. thx!
Could you try to pair it with your Octopre via adat?
I don't own an octopre but I did pair it with my Clarett 8 Pre via SPDIF and that worked nicely. Also tried it with the Behringer 8200 adat expansion and that worked too.
Major GAS
What language is this?
Thanks for your Review. Your opinion on the A/D converters? is the Sound on the same level than the apollo or RME? Thanks Fabi
+Melo D yeah to my ears it sounds very close to the RME at least. Have not used Apollos much.
bro should i get rme babyface pro or arturia audiofuse? whats your suggestion? heard about audiofuse heat issues as well. Help me out.
or the SPL Crimson 3
Riton Shafique easy. RME
ill go audiofuse
RME is the way to go. NO doubt about it
It will look like an electronic octopus when it's all hooked up ! ~
But it looks like a bomber little unit !
+S.R. Smith yeah I prefer rack mounted stuff :-)
For studio, of course ! But this looks like it could work wonders for a mobile setup. This, plus a PowerAdd Pilot Pro battery pack and a Circuit & a Digitakt and a Roland Cube ex50 and you could throw dance parties anywhere . . . could be the park . . . or the local laundromat !
Babyface pró vs áudio fuse?
RME is in another league in drivers
Its pretty expensive but it is neat.
please Bo! What is the name of the instrumental at the beginning?! 0:09
its just one of my beats, i am not sure if I have released it somewhere
@@BoBeats Whats the name of it ?? I LOVE IT
yeah I havn’t named it. Its a beat that never got used for some project 2003 or something
@@BoBeats i would really like to listen to it , could you email it to me please?
Versus SSL 2 plus 🤔
I have the option to buy a brand new AudioFuse Rev 1 for less than €400. Is this worth it still?
Yeah I think like 300 euro is pretty good price for a used one. And rev 1 still holds up. I still got mine. Make sure usb micro port is in good condition tho, just try insert a cable and make sure it doesnt come loose too easily!
@@BoBeats It is brand new and unused from a store so all ports should be good and it will have warranty like new. Thanks for the advice on this and for your videos on both KO II, Play + and Minifreak. They all were heavily influential on my purchasing decisions.
I bought the AudioFuse last week...Sound Quality is compareabel to my Asus Essence One Dac...The sound is really punchy...Drivers are stabel....the unit becomes really fucking hot( i cool it with an small usb ventillator) - i hope the unit dies not to early from the heat...recording some stuff per mic is on the to do list...
+JosefStrom666 good to know mate! :-)
Bo, what kind of Thunderbolt USB hub are you using on your Macbook Pro?
+Christian Naumann hyperdrive+ I think is its name
thanks for the interesting review. Very cool that it runs on an iPad or iphone as well.
But why do think USB-C is super-annoying? I like it - it's the way USB and Thunderbolt always should have been. I hope it will get adopted more in the future.
+verstaerker its just annoying because its new and fairly unsupported as of yet. Given time it will be awesome. And also super annoying that their tb does not support first gen tb devices :-(
I'm running my TB-raid without issues .. just needs the apple- tb3-tb2 adapter
+verstaerker yes but not all TB chipsets are supporter unfortunately. The first gen chipsets do not work with the adapter. My Clarett works just fine with adapter but my older TB interface has a chipset that is not supported. Annoying.
Second ;)
just a quick comment: yes, you have other alternatives to arturia, but i advise ppl don't buy focusrites. i haven't seen any other sound-card maker with so many problems. no one even comes close. no updates, bad sound, huge dropouts for no reason, you never really know if it's going to work on your system, etc.etc....
Gipsy from the Future Yep. Have had multiple problems with my iTrack Solo into Mac (supposed to work. Doesn't. Works fine with my iPad & iPhone, but not with Mac Pro nor Mac Mini).
Mr Future Gypsy.. I have found that most issues with Focusrites start (and usually end) with the users and the peripheral equipment... Never ever had an issue with them, so, one Swallow does not a summer make... With the sheer number of units sold and in daily use globally, I'd be suprised if there wasn't the odd problem..
Also never had a problem with my 1st gen 6i6. Pre-amps are great too!!
This is cool and all, and as much as I love arturia, my Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 pretty much does the same thing, but for a quarter of the price.
I beg your pardon. No mention about the unconceivable design choice of a Micro USB main connector for such a product ?
Sorry for shouting it loud: MICRO USB !!! The least reliable connector in the history of connectors. It breaks even if you just look at it. Ask your IT guy. Whatever movement to the setup affects the port, which already giggles, because of the stiff usb cable that you can use to drag a boat. And they had space for 3 additional, full size USB ports ! Guys, even a mini USB would have been a risible design choice. I sent a request to the company asking for a solution, like using one of the other ports. I'm mad at myself for choosing this without fully reading the specs. I thought the Micro USB was for something else.
Yeah, it is the most breakable worst connection in history, but you also probaly have 10 cords in your house lol.
Agreed, most people have a dozen microUSB cords, but mechanically? Meh ! Even if it was in a rack mounted unit where there's little regular movement, it would be a questionable choice. But in a portable unit, where by its nature it's going to get a few knocks and cord pulls, I really do question the sanity of the engineers at Arturia picking such a flimsy and quick to wear connector. Especially as it's otherwise such an exceptionally solid piece of engineering.
first
YES! =) This re upload was good for you. You got first!
Who else thinks the audiofuse looks seexxxy af
600 euro for a 2-in soundcard?!
+motoboy6666 its a 4 in soundcard and expandable up to 14 inouts. But yes, its expensive.
BoBeats if you expand it with adat, its a expensive solution and not portable at all. Theres small cards in this pricerange, motu ultralight for example, with a lot of I/O. Cant see the sellingpoints of this product, ok if it was like 100-200 €. Nice review though.
The UltraLites are not much better value for money. Its just different value for money. More I/O on the unit, but less hands on control. So basically your are paying similar amounts of money for different features.
Let it be said tho that I dont think this is a soundcard for everyone. If it meets your pratical and aesthetical needs then go for it :) otherwise there are ton of options
BoBeats A lot of I/O makes a small card like this a lot more versitile and should be worth a lot more functionwise than 2 big knobs. But thats just me :)
" Too HOT to handle" ... Have red some reviews about the ' heat ' of this ' Audiofire' . That's for me not done. Also the price is sky high! The Audient ID22 have better features. DI input. High quality recording thnx to to the Burr Brown digital / analog converters. Most important the price of the Audient ID22 is much more cheaper.
Moog is prononced Mogh, not Moooog. Accordingly to Robert Moog himself. :)
Actually, what he has been recorded saying is that he preferred the Mogh way, but that his family did use different ways of pronouncing it. There is rarely one way a word is pronounced.
Great review but I wouldn't buy it without hearing it, it's too expensive for what it is or what it appears to really be, which is a Swiss Army knife interface. Its advertised as sounding high end but I'm skeptical.
Its good to be sceptical. And I always advocate going to a local store and trying to get a feel for it. CZcams videos are perhaps not the best for audio demos of such things.
You tested it without speakers it seems.....moving on
😂 this made me laugh. you take how videos are shot literally? I just shot the video in living room as the light is better there.
@@BoBeats too late bo, he's moved on 😢
This must be one of the most sensitive & unstable electrical devices I’ve EVER put my hands on period. Even the SLIGHTEST eruption on either the USB cable or the power supply will cause the interface to loose it’s connection and of course send super loud pops through your speakers. As soon as this happens you’re going to have a hard time re-connecting it without restarting your entire system. How can you build a device that is obviously intended for portable use and not implement a safe-lock for the power supply at least!? If you’re looking for a portable interface just add $100 to your budget and go with one of the UAD Apollo’s and you’ll never experience any trouble at all...
