Imagine Bastl and Teenage Engineering collaborating. They’d probably create a legendary synth together.
+Danny Proud it would also have a super cool name! And super strange commercial!
If the price is middle of the road of the two standards then... yeah!!
I kinda overlooked this when I first saw this one because I had no use for it at the time (still, appreciated the video). Now, it's exactly what will suit my needs for on-the-go writing with multiple instruments or just jamming out in the backyard.
It's actually a great little mixer for those of us that have multiple synths.
Right now I run 3 synths (soon to be 4) and a Beat Buddy drum machine into a 4X4 interface. This little sucker would eliminate cable swapping for practice and jamming. For recording I'd probably plug the synth direct.
I was looking for an affiliate link. You and Ricky Tinez are really the people who sold me on this mixer, and I'm getting it tomorrow morning at perfect circuit at noon. If you could post an affiliate link before then, then I can support your channel with the purchase...
9-12 DC volts means it has an internal regulator
it will accept any 90 to 220 volts AC (wall outlet) to 9 to 12 V dc transformer...
its internal regulator allows you to use a 9, 10, 11 o 12 v dc adapter
hope to have help
Part of me wants this cute little mixer for my little Volca and PO rigs but the other part of me knows that it is just a matter of time before I'll ditch it for my FX sends and EQ and pans of a larger mixer. Good first look.
Matt Greer Music Same man. That’s the main reason I haven’t bought one. I use lots of FX and I’d miss it when only having whatever FX are on the synth.
Behringer MICROMIX MX 400 line mixer only 25 bucks bro so fuck portable gear for 75 euro.
Behringer mx400 is not really portable, i bought it and really regret buying it, cannot run it with batteries and it only has mono out so you cannot drive your headphones or connect it to stereo.
I keep eyeing this for the portability factor. Thanks for featuring it!
I use the Behringer Micromix MX400. Only four inputs but cheap (£20) and does the job
I have that and it's fine, but I wish it had mute buttons, and the extra channel is kind of nice, not to mention battery power... definitely pretty interesting mixer.
i loved it, thought the noise was a bit high but i now need 5 inputs, it would be great to have a micromix MX600 with 6 inputs
Ehy mate! Does the mx400 work if I put 2 stereo input (example circuit and kaossillator)? They occupy all 4 channels or it just doesn't work?
Nice first look! Looking forward to a more in depth review. I'd like to know more about it's tone generating capability.
Neat mixer, thanks for the early look Bo, definitely something that is on my radar.
Bastl are such a great company, always coming up with amazing products. ...Thanks for a great review 👍👍
Agreed! Thanks Rupert!
Love the idea here with this small mono mixer, but I would have liked to see some EQ on there as well and then I'd be sold. Thanks Bo for showing this little guy off!
I feel you! I personally love the super slim form factor, but I also move my stuff around a lot so its handy to have around. Also heard good things about the Roland GO mixer and now there is also the MiniJam Studio mixer!
Love watching your reviews. You sound like someone from down my street who’s got this crazy ass studio but I rarely get to see the guy.
+Cable Vamp haha maybe you live on my street!!
BoBeats well I’m not going to ask what street so no one knows you address but what country, Providence or state did you live? I mean the more I think about it the guy I remember had glasses and was soft spoken.
+Cable Vamp i live in Sweden :-)
It's so cute 🤗. Good vid!
Thanks dude! Great work on your two latest vids! Keep it up (but don't strain yourself my dude, remember: it has to be FUN!!!)
I never gave it a thought until I found myself with too many semi-modular synthesizers. NOW I get, why everyone is so excited about it. :3
Awesome little mixer. Thanks for the review!Btw, on your electricity knowledge, when you get into Eurorack next year it will really help to understand it a bit more.
:) yeah I need to learn more for sure. But I guess that is part of the fun with doing some kind of eurorack tutorial/overview because then I actually have a good reason to get down to learning more
Indeed. Looking forward to seeing your journey with it.
Bastl is a company i absolutely love because their products are just downright cute, fun, interesting and has many possibilities even in a small form factor, though im broke so i cant buy em, i told my dad to get a bastl kastle for me though it says that its gonna be back on stock on september though this is already november so whats up with that?
Great video.... About what was the price.. could you do a video on sub $200 mixers for those of us searching for good mixer below the 200$ mark¿
I’m looking for a portable mixer to go with my Volcas but I’m not sure if the mono ins work...
What is the closest thing to this that’s in stereo?
Bastl makes cool products. I might get this one to tie my live setup together
But the one to watch is bastl thyme, cant wait for it to drop
Smart and simple, bastl products are always cool and fun. Can’t wait to hear it in action , especially when it adds some drive/ssaturation
Just got mine this morning :D
+Noah Große awesome!!
@2:51 9-12V power voltage means you can use any DC power adapter delivering voltage within this range (notice the polarity!). The highest voltage gives the best headroom, amplifying factor and signal to noise ratio. Simple like that. So the parameters will be always better than with battery power.
Would you say this is good for a beginner? It looks very easy to use has a simple Layout and can do allot for the price
hello, any similar ref in stereo out (minimixer, preamp quality saturation, for live perf) ? best vibes
Hi Bo. I've been looking around for a mixer. Can you answer me why there are no midi-enabled analog mixers, I simply cannot find one? I take it for granted to be able to automate parameters such as faders, pan and aux send, just like when working in a DAW. How come this does not seem to exist?
Can it sequence the inputs of the other synths ?
So this is Mono? How can i utilize this with my Behringer td3? Uno drum, Pocket operators?
Love it!
Good video, interesting product especially if you have a small space or need a ultra portable mixer.
Thanks Jim! I want to build a portable rig using this mixer!
I'm thinking Korg what do they call it tid bits and this would be a nice combo.
yeah thats an interesting combo!
A video about your recording set up would be great Bo, I'm really interested how you set up for each video
+Grumbledore Music I think I can do that :-)
I anticipate it
Hello and thank you for your nice video.
I use to connect my Korg Krome keyboard into my Bose Compnaion 5 (2.1 system) Aux Input: the 2 1/4 jack keyboard output (for a stereo sound) are converted into a single 3.5mm jack that plugs into the Companion 5 Aux Input. I works nice. The Bose are already connected on my computer via USB connection.
Now I would like to connect my DX7 synth (2 output 1/4 jack) and my electric guitar (1 output 1/4 jack) to my Bose 2.1 speakers, the whole IN STEREO, via the entry jack 3.5 mm.
Do you think I can achieve this with the Dude mixer?
Any suggestion are welcome.
Thank you in advance for your answers!
I not quite understood: when you feed stereo signal to it, does it force mono it? Or it takes only one channel, i.e. L or R? Plus, output has left
ight output, but basically outputs mono?
Its a monophonic mixer. The inputs are as far as I can tell mono (one channel) but the output is a "dual mono output for driving headphones" which means (like I said) that you get left and right signals. With a simple single mono output I guess you generally get a left OR right signal. This is not my main area of expertise, but this is how I see it :)
Have you reviewed the just mixer? I'm looking for something for my volca and a MMXX T-APE a little amplification may be needed. Also looking at the little bear although passive.
i am looking for a mixer for a mother 32 and a elektron model:samples. would the dude make sense for that. sounds like. the model:samples would be reduced to mono. but that's ok. would the model_samples use 2 inputs of the dude?
Has anyone used it to amplify a volca to send the signal into a Digitakt, since the level of the volcas is so low?
May be 2 of these can do for an stereo setup ...
Does this work with stereo too? Like you said does it occupy for e.g. 2 channels for circuit and two for e.g. a kaossillator mini 2 other two or it just ruins the whole thing?
Interesting item... does seem like size is its only advantage. Not that size should be dismissed though. I await your review. o/
Size and battery power for sure! And maybe also the sound quality. I will try and show this because it does add some interesting saturation when you drive it (you can also use it to create tones, but thats something I am very unfamiliar with but you can read more about it on their webpage).
The only problem is most people would want to use this with things like iPad, Volcas, Pocket Operators, Circuit, etc. All with TRS minijack even if they are only mono (not sure what Bastl's products have as a standard output though). So now we need to buy 5 cables to convert them to TS minijack. I don't mind that the output is mono, but I have no mono minijack conversion cables and don't intend to ever have them. Otherwise my small battery powered Nady MM-242 sounds horrible and I could really use something like this.
Hm, do you really need a TRS-TS converter tho? I think I managed to use my PO and Volca thru it with just a mini-TRS cable if I am not totally mistaken here. Could be that I am missing something.
I could also be missing something. Ok, the manual says TS or TRS 1\8" jacks can be inserted but it will only listen to the left channel on TRS. So, It will probably work better for some things than others. Probably have to do some volume compensation on some things. and have to force things into mono on the devices themselves, or use adapter cables. So, if say you have a Circuit which is mostly mono anyway, you are going to loose whatever stereo stuff is going into the right. You can't pan delays for example, but the reverb does pan.
Would you use it in conjuction (/complimentary with/) Rebel Technology Wizard?
Hey man thanks for this video.
Small question here- I have digitakt, digitone, and Adam a5x. In this day I think about a nice setup for this machines. I would like to have the option to go throw me mac and iOS devises. I’m Undecided between audio interface or mixer. I know it’s very general question but if you have some idea for you this case it will be greet.
Peace ✌🏻
would you use a zoom r16 as a mixer (since you could record your set at the same time) or are there limitations that i can't see? would there be any sound differences?
Cool little mixer but the mono jacks? It would be much easier to just have two stereo and one mono or maybe even 3 stereo jacks. It is probably more likely to have a stereo source: Ipad, iPhone, Circuit, electribe, kaosscilator etc, etc...
A good option is the Roland GO mixer which can be powered by a powerbank! :)
@@BoBeats Ammoon do a 4 stereo/8 mono 6.3mm Jack mixer, similar to this that is super inexpensive.
Here - bit.ly/2OCDgmQ
Only reason I think anyone should really buy this is if you need something small and battery operated. There are much better options out there if your looking for a mixer and don't need it to be portable right around the same price point.
+murtasma yes, if you do not need mobile and small there are plenty of better options!
Cool dude! hehehe
Fantastic !, thanks for bring this to my/our attention. I f@$kin love it , Booyaka !!!!, i must get one . Love the small form factor. Im going to share this video with my audio geek freinds .POW !!!!!
Any idea whether this will power from a regular 9v guitar pedal power supply? That would be neat and save a socket.
+Joseph // oh I do not dare say. I am crap at electricity
The 9 to 12v barrel jack on the back sounds perfect for your application. Hopefully they used a standard connector unlike the volcas XD
The polarity might be different. So make sure that's compatible. You might ruin something(if Bastl didn't implement a protection circuit).
9V guitar pedals always have the negative for the center pin, but the standard for all other supplies is the positive for the center pin(wich might be the case for the DUDE).
RIMAR Tracks Yes, you are correct. I had a dig in the pdf manual for the Dude and it is centre-positive.
www.amazon.com/Diago-PS05-Red-Adaptor/dp/B002IRRYL6
Here's something you could buy to 'reverse' the polarity on the plug.
Dose it connect to DAW ? Like an interface ?
No
BoBeats ok
P.S. i'm not surprised that it's so small. Almost all mixers have a lot of free unused space inside :D No any cooling needs can justify this. Usually it's more of marketing tricks and ergonomics.
I had a Bastl Dude and whilst the aesthetics are brilliant, the hiss when powered by battery made it bit of a problem. Ended up selling it. :-(
Great to know! Something for me to look out for. Havn't noticed any battery noise yet
Do they make a battery power mixer with stereo ? a mono mixer doesn't do me much good !
+S.R. Smith I dont think they got one. Not seen that many battery powered stereo mixers around. I heard a Roland Go Mixer with usb battery can work!
Bo ~ The Behringer 1002B is a battery op. portable mixer that is a good option, but not very small
Hey audio amatuer here! I've been thinking of picking one up for my circuit and korgs, but I want to add some flange to my volca kick, do you think something this small could handle all that?
Not sure what you mean by flange? :-)
BoBeats oh sorry typo! A flanger like an effect pedal!
Hello, so if I buy Pocket Operator I need this too? PO-12 is stereo and If I wanna record it for a track I need mono? :) thanks!
No no, you don't need this mixer necessarely. It could be fun to use with POs but yes you will lose the stereo image.
thanks!
The dude abides
Does Jeff Bridges approve of it?
Dunno if anyone will find this interesting, but they might... I found this little "Volca Mixer" on KVGear's website whilst looking for stands. It's "cheap" but it may prove really useful to those of us with more than one Volca (or Pocket Operator, or similar). It has 8 channels with 2 aux sends and can power up to 8 Volcas amd is the same size as a Volca so will fit perfectly into Volca stands. I'd have thought there was a market out there for this kind of thing )or smaller, say a 4 channel version.
Let me know what you think
kvgear.com/products/vixen-mixer
The Vixen looks very cool! I hope to try one out further down the line :)
Look forward to it! BTW it was supposed to say "it's not cheap"..me and my rubbish typing...
BASTL DUDE
Not on the rug man!!
it's quite pricey for what it is, great size though for a 5 channels and battery powered
90$ is pricey for a micromixer? Not to me.
They still could make a stereo mixer (without panning) for the same price! It can be made with LM13700 ICs or without them. 70 euro for such a simple circuit... Excuse me... :)) Take a simple op.amp (even not expensive.. TL074 - quad op.amp IC) and you get four mono channels. So you need two ICs and there will be some additional routines on the 2nd: the virtual ground (one op.amp) and one for overall volume.
If you need stereo: take LM13700 and build a stereo-VCA. One single potentiometer will be controlling two channels simultaneously. 5 ICs for 5 stereo channels. Probably there you can add panning as well.
Actually even "op.amp only" solution exists as well www.electronicdesign.com/components/one-single-section-potentiometer-sets-gain-two-channels (no schem. there but i believe it can be found). Description in that article is pretty solid.
@Jerome Are you sure that you've wanted to answer _here?_
Or I don't understand your question...
I just spent all my 275€ on airsoft shit... fucccccc
There are already mixers like this for half the price and more features...
Just google up battery mixer and you'll get results like Yamaha's AG06
The AG06 doesn't have a battery compartment but can be used with a 5v USB power bank (less practical on the fly). It is considerably larger (less mobile). But it does have more features. If I have to choose only one it would be the dude, for many people the obvious choice would be the AG06, it is less practical if the dude covers your needs, but it is also more powerful and versatile.
...looks like a lady!
there needs to be a way to tell youtube a product video is out of date so it wont show up. this unit is terrible compared to what's out there now. mono, a useless loudness button, exposed batteries, not to mention you cant even see the product in the video.
Cute hands darling
+Fusion 1994 i know you love watching them!!
How do they fare with Donald Trump's?
Great paper weight right there... Seriously?? Mixer?? Your joking ,,, Right?...
Mono 😔😩👎🏾
yeah its a drawback for sure!
Everything I’ve bought from Bastl has either broke or I’ve had problems with. I’ll never buy a thing from them ever again!!!
Not very useful in the dark. Peace 🎶👽✌🏻Christo
+Christo Roppolo literally in the dark? Thats a good point for any live use case :-) where it might be hard to see what you are doing
