    I think one issue not discussed in the video is retail space. Stores like Target, Best Buy, Walmart, and others are providing less shelf space for video games so I think companies like Nintendo have to pick and choose which games they want available physically in a store. I think games that sell less than 5 million copies are less likely to stay on shelves for long. Like RGT said, there's a window now to get the physical games new before you have to find a used copy. I think this problem will happen a lot more for the Switch 2, too. Games won't get a lot of print runs before Nintendo says "buy it digitally now".

    I can see Nintendo putting out “Player’s Choice/Nintendo Select eShop Cards”. This way they can still advertise those games as being available but it would cut down on production costs of those games being manufactured onto physical carts.

  • @robenvilla1500

    Two reasons I can imagine happening here;
    1. These games have slowed down dramatically in sales (no demand for product).
    2. Nintendo creating a business model to see if games will increase in digital sales if they are only available in that format because this can be the determining factor that let’s Nintendo know if they should make the switch 2 a digital only system.

    I just bought a Switch in the UK at Christmas and i've had problem finding physical copies of certain games too. Origami king is not available to buy anywhere and i had issues tracking down a copy of Links Awakening and Yoshi's Crafted World. Other titles like Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and various Pokemon games also seem to be in short supply.
    I'm glad ive picked up most of the 'big hitters' i wanted over the past month - but i am definitely getting frustrated either feeling like i need to buy titles immediately in case they dont print more copies, or in other cases not being able to find the game i want at all

    • @Thirteen31Music
      @Thirteen31Music Před 5 měsíci

      Personally I think this is more down to shops choosing not to stock physical options than Nintendo. As a general rule Id say picking up a games around release is the best option before they disappear.

      @@justinthomas6617 Yeaaah, I'm sorry but Digital is still an absolutely horrible option. I will *never* buy digital as long as I have a physical option. And if they were to go all digital Id likely start skipping out on a lot more games. You don't own a digital game. You own a license to play the game, that can be taken away from you at any moment. Allowing companies to go full digital is one of the worst takes I've ever seen, as it allows them to get away with a *lot* of super sketchy stuff. Like... Sure, if you like digital games that's fine. But there should absolutely never be a "fully digital future." We're already seeing the effects with some products for what happens when you go all digital. When the shops shut down, that game is just lost to time forever. You can never buy it again. "Oh, you wanted to play this triple AAA game but just never got around to buying it? Too bad."

  • @Gabezcube

    That is weird
    I guess games like mario odyssey, spla2n, & xenoblade 2 could have that problem for how long they've been around. But games like FE engage, warioware & mario strikers is very odd because of how recent they are. I still see them in stores. Not all, but most of them still.
    I've especially noticed with xenoblade 2 since thats been gone for a while before this happened. I was very lucky to find it a retro store for the normal price ($60) last year
    So yeah, something odd is going on

    I personally dont think we will go 100% digital only. But it could happen.
    That being said, next gen DEFINITELY wont be digital only. So many gamers will drop off and they know that.
    Xbox I could see maybe doing a digital only next gen because they are one step away from 3rd party anyway.

    Paper Mario: The Origami King and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 were already been out of print before and had become harder to find for awhile now. The latter was even going for around $100 on the secondary market some time ago. I suspect something like DKC Tropical Freeze and Fire Emblem: Three Houses have likely been out of print for awhile too (and Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, frankly, even though it was not mentioned), though residual stock remained in the wild and has subsequently waned. As far as a lot of the titles on the second half of that list go, one can make the case that they could be confused with simply being out of stock, particularly as it pertains to Amazon.
    edit: Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition also looks to be out of print

    Most of those games probably have stopped selling well enough to justify taking up shelf space in stores. The only one that is surprising is Mario Odyssey, but possibly there's a new 3D Mario coming soon with the Switch 2.

  • @Nathaniel_E_Dearing
    @Nathaniel_E_Dearing Před 5 měsíci

    I have suspected for a while now that Nintendo Selects [or the equivalent thereof] could return someday and bring Super Mario 3D All-Stars back along with it. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is among the titles I suspected to be among the line, but Arms is another I suspected yet it's not on that list. True, there is a Direct that usually happens in about a month from now which might announce the line, but February seems too soon for something like this. September would be a better time. And furthermore, why discontinue both Fire Emblem titles at the same time? Even if the rumors of FE Echos: Genealogy of the Holy War are true, there should at the very least be one or the other remining on shelves to keep the series in the minds of the casual customers.
