Mike: Check out Johnny Clegg and Savuka. He was a South African musician who was banned from playing in South Africa during apartheid because his band had White and Black musicians in it. He was a hero in South Africa like Bob Marley was a hero in Jamaica. And like Marley, his music was great. And Jamel, if you're reading this, please play more Bob Marley and play Johnny Clegg and Savuka. You won't regret it at all.

I got to see him in concert in 79 when I was pregnant with my daughter so you guys are the same age. I had tickets to his concert in 1980 but unfortunately it was cancelled because he got sick. Such an incredible man and musician. Still listening to him, always will.
One of my favourite quotes is from UNCLE BOB when he was here in Aotearoa new zealand and asked Why he wrote PUNKY REGGAE PARTY His answer was PERFECT..... BECAUSE PUNKROCK MUSIC AND REGGAE MUSIC IS REBEL MUSIC!. AWESOME 👍

I remember the year Bob Marley died, it was in the early '80s... Without googling it I think it was '81. I was still a teenager back then, I graduated high school in '79 at the age of 17. We had a friend that loved weed and loved Bob Marley. He was so upset when Bob died, that all of us friends went to his house and did a Bob Marley music marathon for hours, paying tribute. We did the same thing, when Lynyrd Skynyrd:s plane crashed in '77. Two huge losses, in such a short amount of time. We have the best music back in the day. Still listen to both bands on rotation, both on my "stay list".
I listen to this song everyday when I make my first cup of coffee. Marley wasn't messing around and now, more than ever, the lyrics hold true to the entire world.
I moved from Alabama to California in the early '90's. While at a street fair in Bakersfield, i ran into a group of guys promoting thier new seafood reggae bar. So i went by one afternoon to check them out...ended working there and becoming great friends with them. They introduced me to reggae and Rastafarianism. Been a huge fan ever since. Black Uhuru, Steel Pulse, Aswad..it's one of my favorite genres now.
Rasta Man, One of the best songs and videos by Bob RIP to show True Love. Everyone, not just Rastafarians, are in the video and getting along and Loving is One Love
I saw him in live concert at Western Springs in NZ in 1979. We were right up the front at a huge outdoor venue . What a fantastic concert! So much positive energy and dancing away! but even better when we were invited back to his hotel to meet him! Yes we spent a few hours with this lovely man! What a privilege and something I'll never forget!
I hope that when Bob Marley & Peter Tosh were creating this music & message, they knew and understood the impact it would have on people. Mans ability to create never ceases to amaze me.
I had the Great Priviledge of seeing Bob Marley during what I think was one of his last tours in Upstate NY. His soundmen were all dressed in army fatigues and their dreads tied in big knots on their heads. Rita (his wife) was one of the “I Threes” and sang backup. Bob was dressed in jeans and a denim shirt- when he sang he would throw his head from side to side and his dreads (down to his waist) would flow above him like a halo. He would also often put his hand above one eyebrow whilst gazing upward and looked a Perfect Messiah. I also must add that it was ‘round HALLOWEEN and there was a guy dancing about the perimeter of the auditorium on GIANT STILTS- kinda hard to see the ceiling due to the thick cloud of ganja. Being able to say I saw him LIVE is a great source of Pride for me 🙏.
LEGEND Bob was one of the most influential artists in my life. The message of the music is so important to future generations and the artistry is impeccable
Don't give up the fight!!! You may get weary, you may get tired, get battered and bruised, but if you have willpower to go beyond your foes for a Righteous cause, you will win Don't give up the fight!!!
Bob Marley is one of my favorite artist ever. His music is timeless, but as with all great artists his time was cut short. I don't think she ever made a song that wasn't turned classic with time. I lived in Hawaii for a long time they still play him on the radio daily to this day.
Wha gwan(wassup) Jamel! Bob was electric live! War/ No more trouble/ Get up Stand up -Live at the roxy(1975) audio only, it was not filmed,is his finest song live in my opinion. The who's who of rock and roll was in the audience to see what Bob was all about.🎶🎸🌴
Jamel, you'll love his "Could You Be Loved", "Jammin' ", "Three Little Birds" and many more! His greatest hits album 'Legend' is a treasured part of my record collection. edit- Stevie Wonder's song "Master Blaster" is a tribute to Bob.
You just named the only THREE songs of his that get played on the radio, they are overplayed. Bob was a revolutionary and a freedom fighter, in a gentle way, and GUSU is more typical of his output than the "feel good" songs cited, although Lively Up Yourself and Trenchtown Rock are feel good songs that deserve to be heard but are never played on the radio.
I wish they played Redemption Song as much as they play the songs you mentioned. It's one of my all time favorite songs. Damn! Bob Marley was so good. I wish he hadn't died so young.
i'd gone to Jamaica...Montego Bay...back in '87 and i was outside an open-air marketplace in town down close to the beach and one of Bob's songs came on a radio someone was playing and everyone stopped what they were doing and fired up the Ganga. i think it's the law down there...lol.
I've been listening to Bob Marley and the Wailers since my dad showed me his music in the 7th grade. His music and his messages I really took them to heart.
Blessed enough to have seen Bob Marley twice in the 70’s. First time in a University gymnasium. Centre Sportif at the Université de Montreal. Mainly Jamaicans in the audience. Was a privilege and honour to watch and dance to the sacred tunes of Bob Marley & The Wailers. ✌🏽❤️👍🙏✌🏼
Basically speaking, every Marley jam addresses one of three topics: partying/getting high/feeling good; romance/interpersonal intimacy; and matters of justice (with Rastafarianism being a subtopic thereof) ----and I'll forever be grateful for the fact that by sheer chance, this track in particular is the one that introduced him to me
