@@Greg-io1ip yeah, it was incredible...especially Sly&fs. Hard to believe now that BMarley & the Wailers opened the show. I've never to this day seen a show as powerful as Sly & the family stone, and in my 68 yrs, Ive seen a lot of shows!
You got lucky the pairing didn't last real long. As Higgs recalled it in Roger Steffens’ So Much Things to Say (2017), Audiences who’d paid to see Sly and The Family Stone didn’t know what to make of The Wailers. And it didn’t take long for the band to find themselves stranded in America without any more gigs lined up.The Wailers made it through five shows across the country, including stops in Tampa, Lexington (Kentucky), and Denver. After a gig in Las Vegas, The Wailers had nothing left but their luggage and a pink slip.

Bob was a man fighting for the downtrodden and disenfranchised all over the world. One of the hardest working singers ever. He was never happy with his rehearsals until the band got it right. The guitarist playing lead is Junior Marvin who still tours with various Wailers cover bands. This particular concert has great sound quality and should be your go to spot for live performances.
It really is a high quality recording. Good bands can be well recorded. The Wailers were underrated, just like so many other 'backing' bands. Listen to The Blockheads. Those dudes can play out!!

Peter Tosh left the band in '72. That was Junior Marvin on guitar, a great guitarist. He joined the band in '77 and played on the album Exodus, where you will find the song 'The Heathen'.

This was hard Bob....they play much of the soft mild love for all songs on the radios but hardly the political and social commentary songs. Bob Marley is my greatest musician ever. He's a legend. The Heathens one of my favs n this performance of it is the best, perfection.
Over the last couple of years I have formed a collection of my favorite Bob Marley songs.
Only a few months ago I found out that these songs are all on "SURVIVAL" his lowest ranked album.
Could it be that SURVIVAL is ranked so low because it is his most political album?

Anything by Bob Marley and the Wailers improves my mood. There are very few artists like Bob and we miss his peaceful, loving soul today. I wish I had seen the Wailers with Bob 'cos their vibe was all about being positive and improving the human condition. My favorite Bob Marley tune is Iron Lion Zion, which I think the band never played live. Thanks for starting the day right!

Great band. Crisp and a good recording to match. It should be 420 full of love every day. It makes no sense we can't just decide. I still miss Bob Marley. There was a time SRV & Bob Marley's music was crowd overlap/same genre. There was much more love before the internet began to experiment with our brains.

Fantastic start to the week❤🙂; as an 18 year old, so late, I bought the brilliant live album 1975 at Lyceum Theater London, shortly after which the fantastic studio album Exodus 1977 was released. Heathen is there in a short version, but your Rainbow version 1977 is a musical journey of genius. Then I listened to the older albums with some gems.
As with Fleetwood Mac, the live versions are longer and musically more interesting, with brief catchy solos. Hopefully you're going chronologically, then we'll see the artistic development: I'm really happy because Bob is being overlooked on the internet.

That was not Peter Tosh, he left the Wailers 4 years earlier in 1973. The only way to listen to Bob is to watch a live video, one of the best live bands ever and the best front man ever. My eternal regret I did not see them live (I have seen the post Bob Wailers), but I pop in the Live at Santa Barbara DVD and fill a big bowl several times during the year.

To see the original lineup, the classic with Bob, Peter and Bunny up front, there is a great video "The Old Grey Whistle" - it must have been like a concert/variety show from the 70s, I've seen some other artists there - but Live, Bob Marley and the Wailers, "Concrete Jungle" is amazing, "Kinky Reggae" is a MUST SEE - couple other songs, all just oozing with Reggae Gods on their game not too soon before they broke up. This lineup from this concert is amazing too, this era was the whole new sound with his wife and the other 2 singers, and the output of legendary songs came from this later 70s run. Who am I to give like Bob MArley history to people who know a ton more than me on these comments...but there is something special to me to catch Peter, Bob and Bunny doing their last album together live, it is as good as your mind would think it should be, no actually it is much better! The album "Talkin' Blues" is my favorite for that reason, bunch of incredible live tracks with that lineup like "Burnin and Lootin" is the sickest thing ever. All love, always with Bob! Peace//

As a South Bay, SoCal native, Bob was part and parcel of our upbringing, along with the likes of Toots and the Maytals, Burning Spear, Culture, Steel Pulse, Israel Vibration, Gregory Isaacs, Third World, the Gladiators, Black Uhuru, Eek-A-Mouse, Mighty Diamonds, Pato Banton, Peter Broggs, Peter Tosh, Don Carlos, Wailing Souls, Jimmy Cliff, and many other roots reggae legends. An entire era of SoCal surfer, skater, beach bums like myself loved roots music and Bob was our introduction and the godfather of all reggae music, no disrespect to Joe Higgs, his and the Wailers mentor. The point is, his music reached all of the masses as it is well established. However, by the late 1980's, that influence that had hit the coastal cities along the shores of Southern California, began to meld with a new sound that we began to take notice of during that time. That sound was from a producer by the name of Dr. Dre. And his infectious beats. Pairing these new beats, which were not actually new, but borrowed from George Clinton and Parliament, when put together with a new flow of rhyming that became known as West Coast Hip Hop, became another ingredient that helped form a new sound. Sprinkle in some Beastie Boys and KRS-One from the east coast. One other key ingredient, was perhaps, the most well established sound from the beach cities of Southern California and that was punk. More specifically SoCal Surf and Skater Punk led by bands like Bad Religion, Black Flag, Pennywise, the Ziggens, etc. Now, you may be asking why am I going into all this detail about a review of a Bob song. It's to petition for you guys, who I have come to respect more than any other CZcams reactioners, to react to a band called Sublime. They epitomize a particular time and place in music history. Late 1980's to late 1990's, Southern California. Reggae, hip hop, punk and classic rock sounds all molded into a cohesive sound that has been duplicated countless times by such acts as Sugar Ray, Smash Mouth, and others. But none could come close to the vision that the lead singer, a surfer, stoner, musician from Long Beach who had an affinity for all these different genres, who along with his bros from the East Side of Long Beach, succeeded in creating their very own genre. That was Bradley Nowell. Tragically he died in 1997 of a heroine overdose. Sadly, entering the 27 club, as he was only 27 at the time. However, he left an indelible imprint on music, but more importantly, the sounds associated with SoCal at the turn of the century and beyond. I suggest doing a review of Sublime's entire album that first put them on the map, 40 oz to Freedom. All of the songs are bangers and they are best listened to from beginning to end as there are some segways. Thanks for your time and I hope you enjoy Sublime. You guys are awesome, can't wait to hear your first review of Sublime, Waiting for My Ruca.....bah bah.......and by the way, I'm so glad you first reacted to Bob with Heathen. A song that should be well known or celebrated, but isn't except for us Bob heads. There are so many more Bob songs for you to react to. For instance, Zion Train, Kaya, actually nevermind, the list would go on forever. But basically, everything that is not on Legend. Those are obviously great songs, but they're too well known. Go deeper with Bob, so as to bring the breadth of his and the Wailers musical catalogue into view. If I were you guys, start with the Boxed Set, and go from Disc 1 to Disc 4, it's all chronological and in my opinion the first disc with him and the Wailers as teenagers is just as dope as disc 4, which includes songs published after he passed away. Keith Richards had a lot to do with the musicians from Jamaica in the 70’s. Goats Head Soup was cut in Jamaica in 73. The Wailers put out Catch a Fire. The soundtrack The Harder they Come came out. Keith stayed in Jamaica Keith let a lot of musicians stay in his home in Jamaica. They would jam all night. Bob Marley was the best. Peter Tosh. 👍

Tosh was out of the band quite a bit before this. I'm pretty sure this guitar player is Junior Marvin he would have only been with the band for a few months having replaced Al Anderson. The middle is his long term wife Rita Marley. Bob is 100% gangster / revolutionary / spiritual leader. I been to A LOT of countries and a few things can be counted on. If you go to any type of night spot where there are young people Marley will be playing and the know all the words but can't speak a lick of English. Almost a sure thing to see two T-Shirts in every country. Shirts with Bob Image and shirts with Che Guevarra on them. Both revolutionaries but with drastically different approaches.
I like Bob Marley and many other raggae musicians like Prince Far I and many more. I'm not a believer and I'm not in a church - I'm a pagan and I'm proud of it. Am I a bad person now? I saw Bob Marley in Hamburg (Germany) in 1977 and brought my brothers and their wives with me. I have more than 10 vinyl albums from him and many from his son Ziggy Marley. And of course also from other reggae musicians. Even though I don't have a God, I don't think I'm a worse person now. Why?

Bob Marley and the Wailers are a different band than The Wailers. Bob and the Wailers were after Peter and Bunny left to go solo. No hard feelings. But they were a different band. The pre Bob Marley and the Wailers era is fantastic. The post Wailers era is fantastic as well. Bob's entire musical catalogue is revolutionary and timeless. The Heathen is just one of the many great songs. Check out more Bob songs. You can start at Catch A Fire....the Chris Blackwell and his newly founded Island Records, produced album that is credited with bringing Reggae to the masses worldwide. Or start with Confrontation, his last album, released posthumously, that is unique in that it gives a glimpse of where Bob was taking reggae in it's style and sound. Of course, there are many other albums to react to, first and foremost, Exodus, which Time magazine declared as the most influential/greatest album of the 20th century. But you can't go wrong with a react with any of his albums. Nor Peter Tosh's Legalize It album. Absolutely epic, his first and by most accounts, best album as a solo artist.

Hey you guys are in Sacramento! Well you should check out the best rock band that I know of to come out of Sac. TESLA. They came way before the car btw. Their 2 most popular songs are "Modern Day Cowboy" and "Love Song". But another great and powerful one is "Song and Emotion". They have plenty more as well, as they've been around since 1986 and still going strong today. Enjoy!
