    I was a student nurse in a hospital in South London, I am white , all my fellow nurses Jamaican. Went to Brixton Academy to see some live music, in 1974..., surprise artist rumour was going to be showing we thought it may have been Dennis Brown, an absolutey brilliant Jamaican singer .Instead, Bob Marley came on. He was living in Fulham West London , had left Jamaica after an attempt on his life . Still get goosebumps about that night and yes, still nursing with all my Jamaica girls and guys xx

    When I buried my husband in 2005, I brought a boombox along to the cemetery. My intention was to play some Native American flute music as we buried him, but when I opened the boombox, this Marley album was already in the drive, and I Had to play this song. It filled me with such warmth I was able to cope with the rest of the day. It felt like magic. I felt my Tom's spirit with me.
    Never got to see Marley live, and my husband had tickets (before we met), front row I believe, in Milwaukee, but Bob's show was canceled for lack of ticket sales, and a few months later he was dead. I'm so sorry my Tom never got to see him.
    I may have been in anguish that day in the cemetery (and for years after), but this song is Pure Joy.

    Quick Factoid: "On October 4, 1975, Stevie Wonder headlined a concert dubbed “The Wonder Dream Concert” that featured Bob Marley as one his opening acts along with Third World. Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes had been billed to appear but didn’t. Interestingly, this was the last time that Bob performed with original Wailers Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer. Bob joined Stevie Wonder on stage for two songs “I shot the sheriff” and “Superstition”."

    I love this song but I gotta choose Three Little Birds for my favorite Bob Marley song. It just kills me every time, picturing those three little birds beside the doorstop..just wow. And also the 'Every little thing gonna be alright'..can't beat that!

    • @sheila1965troubles
      @sheila1965troubles Před 8 měsíci +1

      The "three little birds" were his back-up singers - "However, three female singers from the reggae group I Threes who did shows with Marley claim it is a reference to them. I Threes member Marcia Griffiths remarked, 'After the song was written, Bob would always refer to us as the Three Little Birds. After a show, there would be an encore, sometimes people even wanted us to go back onstage four times. Bob would still want to go back and he would say, "What is my Three Little Birds saying?'" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Little_Birds

    Your story at the end about the madison square garden show is a little bit off. It where 2 of the last 3 concerts ever (september 1980) for Bob as he fell Ill. Bob opened for the commodores, he wasn't booed, but he outperformed the commodores despite opening for them. Bob didn't mind not being the headliner, as he just wanted to reach a broader audiance.
    Thanks for this great reaction!
