    I don't know if this is a remaster gone wrong or a re-recording but this is not the version of Redemption Song I grew up listening to on the Uprising album. That song was a raw voice and a finger picked guitar, and did not have that instrumental layer. In the interest of keeping great music alive, please, please, please listen to the original version.

      @lynnejamieson2063 Před 2 lety +10

      I don’t know if it’s just me but I think something sounds off about the voice. I’m wondering if it’s a remaster that has been subject to auto tune. There’s no grit in it, which is something that makes his voice honest, haunting and real. It seems as though whatever process this version of such an outstanding song has gone through, stripped that away and has left it feeling wrong.

    'Redemption Song" became the epitaph of Bob Marley -it was the last song he played live, in Pittsburgh PA, before going to Germany for his cancer treatment, which he did not survive. "Redemption" links the history of slavery, that brought his ancestors to Jamaica -and his faith in God, through the faith of Rastafari'. "Emacipate yourself, from mental slavery"
    The later covers by Johnny Cash, from later in his life, with Rick Rubin getting Cash back to his roots, but with some modern songs, and bluegrass, folk, and gospel. Joe Strummer's version is special -Joe, knew Bob in London, late 70's as he was in The Clash, and Bob and his band, The Wailers lived and recorded in London, for a time. Punk and Reggae were both "rebel music", and the musicians admired, hung out, recorded together. Marley and the Wailers recorded "Punky Reggae Party" which nods to The Clash, and others. The Clash did several Reggae and Ska tunes, inspired or cover's (Junior Murvin's "Police and thieves") like "Bank Robber" and "Armageddion Time". Joe S' and Mick Jones, main writers for The Clash went to Jamaica on vacation, in 1978, and with the hot weather, the obvious drugs, and the local gangster culture, where firearms were used in the streets (even Bob Marley was shot, driveway his home) the duo from The Clash returned to London to record "Safe European Home" about their experience of London vs' Kingston.
    Bob died to young, most of the original Wailers are passed (Peter, Bunny, etc), Jonny C', Joe S' -all have died. Redemption Songs!

    I've never heard that version. I didn't know Bob recorded more than one version.

    One good thing about music, when it hits, you feel no pain.

    Thanks Jamel.
    I've been fascinated by the Jamaican culture, the Patois, the food for years.
    Something so soothing about it all.
    Thanks for keeping great music alive. 👍

    One of the best artists. Studio Bob is great but the energy is in the live performances. Look for some live Bob, fortunately there is quite a bit. Some great tunes... War/No More Trouble, Burnin' and Lootin', Exodus, Crazy Baldhead/Runnin' Away, Kinky Reggae, Slave Driver... so many more. Talkin' Blues is a great live album to start with, Bob does a lot of talking in between songs, nice perspective.

    You should do "War" by him. Its relevant to the times and a powerful song. Even if you don't do a reaction ease give it a listen off camera.

    What I find so incredible about his music he spoke to both sides of the equation in Jamaica where those of British descent & African descent could live in harmony
