I bet when ya come up on ppl in traffic theyre lookin around for a muscle car and then WHAM ! Explorer goes by, I love it lol
Mitchell Schultz LOL YES! It's happened numerous times, even took her to car shows and people are kind of puzzled. Then I crank her up and the funny smiles start like "Woow hahahaha".
Nice !
Holy COW thats the best sounding Exploder I have ever heard I want!!!
Do you still have it?
Absolutely. Still drive her to this day.
damn, I love these explorers, my dad had a '00 with a 5.0 and I loved it.
My dad's had an x pipe I think, or something like that, it sounded amazing, plus it was comfy as hell.
Had to get rid of it because my brother in law totaled it.
Will be forever missed.
Sounds great man, love what all you done to it and how impressive the sound is. I am thinking about getting the same exhaust for my 97 Mountaineer.
Hey guys! Hopefully here in the spring I'll try to get an exterior video of driving and WOT passes along with an overall profile video of the truck. Thanks for watching and subscribe. I also am about to do a MMR engine swap and turbo build on my 2005 Mustang GT as well.
how much was it to run the dual exhaust ( I might put the super 10 ) on my 98 mercury mountaineer (5L v8), or would a single pipe be about the same
Depends on the shop but I'd say a few hundred dollars for the custom fab work. I went with dual exhaust since I got some mild engine mods on my setup.
and im assuming that the monster torque headers are making most of the noise ( i might just by a super 10 with stock everything else, im not sure if thatl be loud enough though) I've got a super 44 now and its deep only in lower revs ... does the super 10 keep it deep in high revs or is that the monster torque headers
Used to have one of these and man it was fun. Obnoxiously loud and caught people by surprise all the time.
sharp looking ride, and that thing sounds means as hell.
impressive sounds man great job on the expo
this sounds absolute beast, I been thinking about finding one with a motor on it's way out and building it...
Wicked setup! Love it!
man how I miss this truck I had mine with the super 44's. The next one I get I'll surely go with the super 10's.
I have a 99 Explorer with the 5.0 V8 as well. Been wanting to just make it sound like a V8 and came across this video. Think I found what I want to do to mine. Lol.
I've seen some silly stuff, this is definitely up there on that list. I love it.
1:19 hey look another '01 Explorer
I have 96 explorer limited edition with the 5.0 cant wait make it sound like this monster
Thanks! Really appreciate it, be sure to post any videos of your progress!
Jonathan Wilson yeah post a video
I love this song! Ford 5.0 V8 symphony!
The startup and idle sounds so damn sexy.
sounds good. Reminds me of my GT
Sounds awesome!!! Mine will be like this in a couple years lol. Maybe
eres el orgullo de la explorer un saludo desde venezuela.....
I love this video bro
I love my 94 explorer but this makes me want a v8 explorer so bad
💕💕💕👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾 Just like THAT
YES SIIRRR
holy shit didnt know an explorer can sound like this its a fucking beast only thing is 0-60 isnt that fast around the 8 second mark for the 2nd gen
Super Charged4life pretty sure this engine is making quite a bit over the factory power rating by the sound of it
Super Charged4life same exact 5.0 Motor they put in the fox body only difference is the cam
Chief sosa heads too.
DaftPunkRock Yea but luckily the explorers had the GT40 heads and in 1997 and later got the GT40P heads. Both of which are better than mustang GT heads.
GyroPyro12 Yeah, I know. That’s why a lot Fox owners and ‘94-‘95 owners swap to the GT40 or GT40P heads. I almost done it, but now I’m looking for aluminum.
really GREAT sound!!!
Thanks!
still have your explorer?
Ohhh most definitely. In fact I'm replying to you right now in her while she's warming up.
what is the top speed of your explorer? i have a 5.0 2000 and hit 170km/h. sorry for my english i speak spanish
It can do over 100 but I choose not to anymore because it's not wise with the mileage on the driveshaft, I'd never forgive myself I even lived for doing something like that. Lastly, I'm almost done with a turbo 3v Mustang build which I can take up that speed in a safer car.
sounds amazing.
Thanks man.
how much did it cost to do the egine that way. I got a 96 eplore with 5.0 also want it roll with my buddies 5.7 hemi grand Cherokee
@ TekMan05 I have a 1999 Ford Explorer xlt 4wd ohv v6 and none of the videos I’ve seen for a v6 with dual pipes sound as mean and ferocious as yours!!!!honestly til I find one Ill probably keep it stock....what’s your opinion on a v6 with dual pipes??
god that thing sounds insane. im getting ready to rebuild my 5.0, but unfortunately i dont have the money to run a new cam.
I know it’s 4 years too late, but you can swap in a stock mustang ho cam, make sure it’s the updated firing order tho. That will help it breathe a little better for 50 bucks plus labor. Should do springs too
Monster explorer wow ! I got an old 99 ford explorer straight piped straight from cats
I seen your explorer the exact day at aldis this was taken cause I seen it was a v8 and i only have a v6 and spent some time looking at it lol
LOL you live in Gladstone as well? That's crazy you were able to find this video.
Well Smithville but was over there by kevs muffler and yeah i know dude I was looking to put a cam in my explorer and seen this video then seen your explorer and I starting freaking out. I like your explorer though dude
Sounds great, I live in Iron Mountain!
That area looks familiar, looks like Gladstone.
Yo that s@#t IS KOOL AS HELL Im trying to get there 99 mountaineer 5.0 b303
What kinda exhaust set up are you running and we’re did you buy it please any help would be great
Sounds like you have a mild cam as well
Sounds dope!!! What kind of headers u have,I got an 99 mountaineer n want 2 do some exhaust upgrade thx
Thanks! Got torque Monster Headers.
I have a 2000 ford explorer Eddie Bauer 5.0 v8...but I've looked on the flowmaster website and they don't fit...I'm trying to make mine sound like yours is there anything you could tell me?
+Ethan Rollo Find a good muffler shop that can do custom work. There's only one pre-fabbed kit for the 5.0 Explorer which uses the 50 series muffler and single tail pipe. To get duals you're gonna have to get rid of the spare. I'm running high flow front cats with no rear cats with a 2.5'' dual In/Out Muffler. And of course the engine is also cammed.
What's the thing that's stuck onto the center of the inside of the window ? The black scanner looking thing
+Jonathan Anda Radar detector
in terms of the sound achieved on the 1998 Explorer 4.0 V6 SOHC?
LamaLokator CZ no wont be as low will sound more like a bmw look up bmw 335i strait pipe
I want to came my 5.0 v8 explorer now.
i got a 96 explorer and am looking for a cam. so you did the cam , springs, and roller rockers? Are the rockers absolutley neccesary? what the diffeence over stock, did you loose bottom end torque?
+scott colvin Yes I got some of the mods in the video description. It's hard to exactly pinpoint the new power band over the stock powerband. When it's cold outside it doesn't feel like it lost any low end torque with more mid-range power. But sometimes when it's hot or warm out it feels like it may of lost a tad of low end with the cam swap.
+TekMan05 what was the specific cam they recommened for your application? i have a 302 i bored .30 over. deciding weither to use my gt40 heads or find a set of p heads. im guna be using mustang shortys n just cutting out frame on pass side to fit it.
that thing is a fucking monster
Mine's got a "check gage" light on sometimes because of the fuel meter, that goes all the way to empty (even though it's still got some gas) depending on the angle of the car, I'm pretty sure I'm getting wrong info about the actual range or MPG, have you ever had this? My guess is probably a faulty fuel pump in the tank which is causing wrong reading, but I'm not 100% sure. BTW, this is one of the few good V8 Explorer videos on youtube, thanks for sharing! And it sounds great ;)
Thanks! That may be the fuel level unit going bad?!?! I'm not sure exactly what the part is called but it's a float that sits in the tank that reads the fuel level
That was it! No other problems so far, really enjoying it. My other SUV is a Mitsubishi Pajero (in the family since 2002) and after I got the Explorer (which is a 2001 V8 LTD) the Pajero feels like a hatch, LOL. Awesome vehicle, love the 302 V8, best sound ever. I'll upload a video of it anytime soon :D
Ive been wanting to drop a 5.0 in my 03!!!!! Heard the swap is pricey though... amd what tansmisson are you running ???
Im saving up for a 351 swap into my 94
matt burke unless it’s a coyote that wouldn’t be worth it as the 4.6 makes more power every way
The other explorer at 1:15 probably jealous asf
Do they make a programmer of performance chip for the 5.0 explorer?
Not sure, but I'm using an SCT device.
I really want to buy one of these
I got a 99 5.0 explorer Eddie Bauer. Gonna delete rear cats. Put an xpipe and then put a cutout and have flowmaster 10 series. At least that's what I want to do
What the he'll do you do to stop it runnin so rich after??
How hard was it to get a 5.0 in it?
how much did your straight pipe cost I'm getting a v8 explorer same year just wondering
Koncha 04 it also has monster torque headed ( which make most of the noise ) which are around 1k in price
Sounds better than mustangs of this vintage
Roughly how much horse or you get ?
how much does the whole thing cost
how hard was it to cam? i just bought a 97 5.0 awd running and driving for $250, was thinking of doing this
+Nate F We cammed it during an engine overhaul which made it much easier.
What sct tuner? And can it do custom tunes for like boosted applications?
My explorer has the old x3 device but my turbo mustang has the x4. And yeah just find a tuner once you get the device's
What them headers run u
I got a 96 explorer with the 5.0 how much did this set up cost?
Can't remember since most of it was pieced together at different times. The high flow cats were 100 cell per inch and costed $100 a piece. The Muffler was around 80 bucks plus the labor at a muffler shop.
Hey man I drive a 96 5.0 eddie bauer ive been looking to start a club or group of explorers to drive with I live in wentzville mo..and I swear ive seen your explorer before.
Well I mainly stay in the Kansas City area for much of my daily driving.
I've got a 1999 Eddie bauer edition 5.0 v8
I got the 99 5.0 v8 limited explorer
If you're still around.. who tuned this with the new cam?
James Hensen , he used to do all the Explorer tuning for guys off the Explorer forum. He's no longer tuning from last I heard a few years back.
what cam r u running? i have 5.0 explorer as well
It was a custom grind camshaft to fit my truck's profile.
I swear your setup sounds a heck a lot better then mine lol and I'm running the same mufflers....... Sounds nice bet you get some weird looks because explorers aren't suppose to sound like that hahaha
Btw do the x pipe I would love to hear it cause that is something I would like to do to mine
Jacob Keller I get looks all the time especially at work parked next to the Mustang guys. To be honest I like the way this chops more than my 3valve. I thought about the X-Pipe but since my muffler is a dual In/Out I wasn't sure if it was necessary or not.
Jacob Keller im running same exhaust with x pipe it sounds better without the x pipe but gains torque a little
How do u make your cars sound like this?? Can a v6 do it?
The exhaust is shown in this video. You can put a 10 series on any car you want since they're so versatile. But only a V8 is ultimately gonna sound like a V8.
Is your pipes straight pipe or you still have cats? Ordering exhaust this weekend?
High flow cats.
Thanks man.
@@bryondawson115 This is actully a slightly outdated video in a way. I've since added an x pipe as well.
Around how much was it to do all that
+Ethan Rollo For the 10 series? the muffler was around $70 then the shop charged I believe was between 100-180 I can't remember to be sure. This is a dual in/out single muffler.
How much did your rebuild come out to be? Mine is at 174000 miles and once it hits 200000 I'm going to rebuild her up.
Oz M. I honestly can't remember. I did head work and custom cam and valve/train work so it'll cost a few thousands I'd say. If I had more money I'd done a 347 with different heads but I was on a budget.
Tiene x pipe?
THE TIRES ARE THE GOODYEAR WRANGLER SILENT ARMOR?
That cam sounds so great on that explorer. nice work. which cam by the way
+Justin S Thanks man, it's a custom cam from flowtech inductions called a Street Beast Cam.
mine kinda sounds like that i have a clip on my channel of it
Have you noticed improved fuel economy?
+RandomActivities With my driving habits it's hard to say. For a while it seemed like it was worse maybe because the cam moved a little power up the RPM band slightly. But lately it seems to be averaging out. I'll have to take it on a long distance trip to get a better feel. Back in 2011 I took a trip to Cedar Point in Sandusky Ohio and with my subwoofer system, spare tire, luggage, and two passengers I was averaging 20-21 HWY miles per gallon. But on these trucks you're not gonna be able to beat stock MPG especially with these mods unless you possibly upgrade the cooling system somehow and do some weight reduction.
Are they common in US?
Yea they're everywhere the trick is finding a nice one. These trucks hold up great! Just as long as you don't drive it like a mustang. And the awd variants are stupid fun in the snow!!! (Minus reverse gear ......warning!)
i didnt know they made a 5.0 explorer or is that something you built yourself? Not a ford guy btw so i have no clue about em.
Jeep Man Yes, after they discontinued the 5.0 for the 4.6 in the mustang they used them in the Explorers from '96-'01. These were the last vehicles to have production push rod 5.0's.
Sweet I want one. I wonder how hard it is to find one. Next to impossible I'm thinkin.
+Jeep Man They are actually fairly common. They also made Mercury Mountaineers with the 5.0. More Mountaineers had 5.0s than Explorers did.
Is this a suited up engine or just v8 5.0 because I have same car and deciding between series 40 or a super ten and I want this sound so if u have something different please let me know what it is if you don't mind
It went through a rebuild back in 2012 and is now cammed!
Trouble with the timing chain?
Knochensplitter it’s called being cammed😂
YOOOOO THAT BITCH CHOPS! Have you ever taken it to the dyno? I have a 98’ explorer and I’m looking to do the same engine mods as you’re X. (Probably with a rear mount turbo as well though)
Damn
hey boss I'm about to get one of these in a week or so any tips on keeping the truck, me and my wallet happy?
+Timothy Madden These trucks especially the 5.0 V8's are easy to maintain. Just get one in good shape and do general basic preventative maintenance like fluids, spark plugs, suspension(shocks, sway links) and you'll be golden.
+TekMan05 I love these trucks cause they're so inexpensive now. do they come with the same c4 auto as say the mustang or something different. that's the main issue I heard about was the trans
+Don't Matter different transmission. transmission is bulletproof on the 5.0.
yeah the 5.0's had the 4r70w. Same one that's also used in alot of the mid 90 RWD V8 cars like the Crown Victoria and F-150.
+TekMan05 Yes, and it's rated for 700 or 800 HP. Very strong.
How much where these
$70 for the 2.5'' Dual In/Out muffler.
The detecti of police+police😏
almost sounds cammed
It is cammed!
zzzzzzzz
***** 1. that's my Thunderbird in my pic get your facts straight lol. 2. Zzzzzz is what sleepers do. This truck is a sleeper, that's what I was implying. I have no doubt it could blow the doors off a mustang, and definitely outrun my old 88 bird if I still had her
***** Well seeing as how I sold it I can't exactly drive it. But that was the reason I drove it is because its something no one else has. I see explorers every day. And yes I use it as my pic as a little reminder
Şu ülkede doğmadığım her güne lanet olsun...
