Finnegan's Garage Ep.37: Dyno Testing a Ford Coyote Engine with Borla Stack Injection

  • This time I venture out of my garage to watch the pros at Kaase Racing Engines dyne-test a 5.0L Coyote engine on the dyno. Robin Lawrence from Holley handled the tuning chores and together we learned what this engine likes. I had had hoped to show you guys how to read spark plugs but there simply wasn't time to do that during the test. In the end the engine produces great torque and nearly 500 horsepower! Want more info? check out Holley's youtube channel and website. You can also see behind the scenes photos of the test by checking my social media accounts.

    Can't wait until Holley comes out with the VVT software and sensor interfaces. Given the size of the equalized floor plenum, even with pump gas, it should hit 500 easily. Maybe 525. The power curve should also begin earlier with VVT fully enabled with the fuel injectors and timing advance dialed in.
    I'm surprised that the 12.7:1 air / fuel ratio worked as well as it did with the VVT "disabled".
    Nice job Finnigan!

    • @1320crusier
      @1320crusier Před 7 lety

      Borlas site calls it a vacuum accumulator not a Plenum. Its just a vac tank for the map and whatever else may need the vacuum. 12.7:1 is generally good for power on most N/A EFI applications. The VVT software from Holley should be interesting.

      This type of intake, while looking amazing, is going to be more about feel. ITB’s have much more instantaneous throttle response so I would imagine it’s more about how the engine responds to spend that kind of money. Or it’s going into an older car and they want the look of ITB carbs. Would be amazing if it worked on a Mustang though without needing a standalone.

      @ReallyRyan. Před 4 lety +1

      @@betherealdeal No, he's full of shit. The amount of accessories being driven by the engine is relatively minimal, given that they're mostly electronic. At most the accessories most likely rob about 10-20 horsepower and that's being very generous. Regular GT makes about 430 net horsepower (with all of the accessories bolted on). Ford usually always does net horsepower at the engine flywheel for all of their engine power/torque numbers, so without the accessories, you're looking at about 440-450 horsepower on the stock motor with literally zero belt driven accessories.

    My 98 T/A 421cid stroker ls2 block with gmpp ported heads makes 550 rwhp with a stock ls3 intake. Borla needs to make one of these for the Ls3. Even though its $6500 my engine cost is only $6500 so for 13,000. I could slip this combo(421lsx/Borla)into my 2008 3200 lb C6(bolt on's 412 rwhp)likely making around 625 rwhp at 6800 rpm N/A. Over 800 n2o easy.

      @francoiscombrinck3884 Před 7 lety +1

      No no Vtech is honda and VVTI is toyota. That being said you get different forms of Variable valve timing (VVT) applications. Vtec has variable valve timing on both exhaust and intake whereas earlier VVTI applications is intake only (later generations of VVTI switched to both intake and exhaust) and the newer generations of Vtec and VVTI engines also have VVL (variable valve lift) which not only controls cam timing but also controls how far the valves open thus can control the velocity if the incoming air at lower rpm resulting in a higher torque output lower in the rev range and once the engine passes a certain RPM it switches over to a higher valve lift profile so that engine breathes better at higher RPM.
