    It's funny she ran into a comparison with Shazam, because her final logo reminds me of SoundHound, which does the same thing.
    She's still very talented, loved seeing her process.

    Revised definitely. I'm glad that Chris pointed out that you will bound to run into some similarities when designing a logo...I feel that you have to not think about creating something new but creating something that works for the brand.

    I love the colorful backgrounds she made, looks very modern and eyecatching. The 'a' in the original skillshare logo is too big and obnoxious, the balance is much better in her redesign

  • @omarjennane2620
    @omarjennane2620 Před 4 lety +5

    I think the problem here is the use of two complementary colors with the same ratio (50/50). I think the logo would have benefited a lot from choosing one main color and applying the second color for only a small part of it. If that's not an option, then I would have changed the brightness/saturation of the colors so that they wouldn't be exactly complementary to each other.
    Otherwise, great job with the rebrand! Would love to see you again on the show.

    I really like Alissa's version and love when a logo has a story/idea and rationale behind it, even when it's not immediately obvious what that is. I think it just adds value, ...but of course, as always; 'different horses for different courses'. Really nice design and great typography. Love these workshops Chris Do - because this old dog is never too old to learn new tricks.

    Started off really good, I thought the logo execution was poor. It turned into an un-original retro geographic shape. It's probably why skillshare didn't go with a monogram or icon in the redesign. The color scheme is to childlike and buoyant for the versatility of the platform. Really liked the process though but the execution felt flat for me. I agree with Chris' original comment about the iconography sketch in the beginning. That design seemed to have more weight.

    Loved the black and white version of Alyssa’s redesign, and loved the colored background motif, so many uses for that, you could even commission different artists to create unique versions of that. However that said, the 50/50 turquoise/orange I feel is a very dated color combination. Which is also the weakest element of the original SS logo. Mono-line with 2 colors that have even intensity’s that have an even distribution on the logo.
    I would go back into that brilliant gradient artwork and pick out a darker shade of the blue or orange, and make that your base color for the logo and then pick a lighter color to fill in the negative space “s”. The logo looks great knocked out again at that the gradient artwork though. But your color version of the logo is not memorable.
    Really good work overall.

The one I would personally choice to redesign is the Mini (cars brand) logo. About Alissa's logo, appreciate the process and the effort to keep the heritage but it still looks dated, the emblem meh and the splashy backgrounds too messy..I'd be at Skillshare I'd vote n.01 with no doubts.

    If the presenter removed the "um's & ah's" we would have trimmed the' video by 10 minutes. Not really, but the um's and ah's were very noticeable. Also, saying part of the design process right after the research is "quick and mindless" is a poor choice of words. I'd choose something more like, "The next step is a valuable step in the process where we synthesize the research and strategy....". I would never say "mindless' to a client AT ALL in reference to the design process. Feels reminiscent of the Quiznos logo too, but mostly for the duo-color (Not sure if they're in business anymore)

    oh boy..another designer rebranding a well known company that has 'just' been rebranded in last 5-7 months. what's wrong with picking a mom n pop down the street that no-one knows about?? another cocky designer wet behind the ears. rebranding is a team sport. not individual. anyone that shows me a big project with no team/stakeholders are disqualified as a candidate. I don't see the infinity symbol...at all. I feel the Shazam logo is cleaner and executed better. Mixing Futura 'S' with another typeface is really bad typography. better off just leaving S alone, let typeface designers design the S. modified S looks like it's slanting to the left now. another thing is that I think the logo (after Shazam) has been done already. Rounding the corners is the most overused trick to do to a typeface, keep it normal w/o rounding radius. Mark needs more spacing from wordmark. Secondary graphic in photoshop looks really messy and hard to replicate if handed off to team. when she showed her inspiration and moodboard I thought she had some opportunity for a cleaner secondary graphic, where the one she came up with looks like something in deviant art. graphic for Shantelle slide looked better. cropping looked better. I'd try and reduce gradients on super graphic to 4-5 colors.
    under armour logo is fine, maybe change wordmark and make thins on mark/symbol thicker, UFC logo needs refinement. dr. squatch is cool and has personality, but does need work.
