Prefer the original on this one, but that was tough - Spotify has a pretty up to date brand.
They do.
it's a big challenge.
Gotta love him for trying this. No playing safe.
Prefer the current logo. Although his logo could be improved. Maybe if he used 3 keys instead of using many Piano keys.
Yes there are too many lines on the revised one, I believe it would fit to have at least two of them removed and maybe to be more dynamic create a transition from bottom to top of square notes into soft waves.
To be honest, it is slowly growing on my while watching the video.
Please bring Zimri Mayfield and that guy from Rebrand Everything CZcams Channel ( he hasn't mentioned his name ). Both are good logo re-designers
They already said a while ago that they asked him and he declined or something like that.
@@AnthonyMcNeil who? zimri declined it or the other guy?
@@silversky5554 Zimri
@@alvinfernando2827 wow why did he declined it? Is there a video about it?
@@silversky5554 I think it's in the Hilton hotel redesign or the ones that hadeel and marcus logo redesign stream, chris mention about it when the stream begins
Once I saw Everton's logo with the picture I was like, "Yup...I like it...alot..."
It's amazing how once you use the mark in interesting ways for the branding it immediately stands out.
Everton's logo made me feel like I was looking at something digitalized...I automatically starting things of old synth beats and keyboards and how that music stood out. I feel like it's on brand.
All of these episodes have been absolutely amazing and even for Everton to create something that was different yet familiar goes to show how creative he (and all of the other guests) are. Pure amazement in these episodes.
Also, you guys are delivering this content for free. Can't say it enough, you guys are awesome. Thanks for the hard work and great content.
You got it all. Thanks for your words Anthony.
Absolutely loved this episode there is a lot to learn about design not being about the wow factor rather again about process and systems
Said it all. Thanks bud.
I never knew that Spotify logo was actually wifi lines but even though it didn't mean anything to me till this point, i liked it, i admired it because of simplicity and the way it sticked in my mind, i could have drawn anytime i wanted to a spotify logo from memory and i think that's important for a branding
I love it when people take on logo's that most of us already like. I like the thinking proces a lot.
Great presentation on the “process”
When I saw his redo It reminded me of the AT&T logo. Not a bad thing. I like the musical keys.
I agree, the entire time my mind kept seeing AT&T!
the main reason why the Spotify logo works is its simplicity. why make it more complicated and dated?
bold move attacking something so perfect. but you know as they say; the higher you climb, the harder you fall
Man I got the chills, really love the way you approach design Everton, and also your vibe, Keep on the good work
Good job! Really love the thinking, the process, and the research about previous designs.
I feel like the logo has so much brand equity imbued in it, what could help it along is to give the current tilt a "base" or "direction", since in application, the tilt angle isn't enough to register as quirky or fun. Tough one.
I can not explain how much thankful I am for these million-dollar videos. another friend from India :-)
Hello friend

@@TheFuturAcademy you replyed, means a lot. Big Big fan...
Can I still submit my logo for review?
@@evertongargioni6909 hi boss.
I enjoyed the process and video. I second that it looks like the old ATT logo. I didn't even think of piano keys. My mind went more toward pipes, a set of bike pumps or needles.
Jeez, i wish i could be that good at design ! Great video
Loved the episode, thank for providing such great content. I like where Everton tried to go but the negative space look like needles. I see the synth piano and electronic look but my mind always ends on needles.
Great practice! Kudos to you, Everton. Good mark and great challenge.
Thank you Andrea!
When you said, "why would they touch the Spotify logo, there's nothing wrong with it." My brain screamed, "say what now!?".
My subjective thought is that the logo could be just slightly adjusted to keep it true to its original concept but still bringing it to a more "designed" and "aesthetically pleasing" outcome.
I've "tried" that. Look around 8min
Yeah, the original one takes the W this time, props to the Everton for diving into a high risk high reward situation.
Take the risk or lose the chance. Couldn't be great this time, maybe next one. Thanks JM
The current logo has its own soul, its recognizable
So much value in your videos. Thanks for all the efforts. Keep up the awesome work! I heard you're also doing video. How about some videos on that topic?
what does that mean? can you explain what you want us to do?
The Futur Academy oh, after Reading my post I see how misleading it is. I was talking about video production, motion design, 3D graphics and everything you do to create videos. So my request is more about the conceptional, design part of productions and less the technical part. How do you approach client requests for video.
don't think the logo needed to be redesigned but good vid nontheless
You can tell he loves his 80's logos. Take a look at his insta as well and that inspiration is everywhere. I don't hate it, but it doesn't seem to run with the trends right now. Who knows, maybe he's an early mover of a new trend in logo design 🤷♂️
Perfect approach. Well done
I know this might not be Hadeel's cup of tea, but I wonder how she would approach this challenge.
I liked the images/ideas presented, and I really enjoyed the dialogue, I just wish there was more process shown. I will also say that I'm not crazy about it, but I still like the original mark best. I see potential in Everton's edition. Maybe he will give it a few more spins, and create something great!
fair enough.
Thank you for the feedback
looks amazing, but still prefer the original one. great job doing something not many people dared to do!
was interestingly entertaining
Great episode, as always. I agree with your thoughts on the logo Chris, it looks like something out of a Logo Modernism book and I like it as a shape. I just wish he would have done a few more explorations. Maybe he'll target Wolff Olins next ;)
Would have
🎶🔥
The logo he did feels dated and old It doesn't go with branding imagine putting this in a small scale you wouldn't be able to see any of the details and it feels like its going back and not in the future, Bad
Agree
make sure to understand the challenge behind the design prior I have to congratulate him on his efforts and worked very hard behind to try and find a systematic approach to a very up to date brand. not bad. diffrent
@@haydenpaoletti5415 In this case, the challenge is a failure and the many negative comments are a proof of it.
The "new" design looks dated and not especially attractive. They shouldn't have picked Spotify in the first place, as their logo is great as-is !
@@AmjadAbboud harsh words analysing one specific point of view. yours.
Collins would be giggling in the background....Telling 'Spotify I told you'
Even if the brand would be totally unknown, the original version looks more like the improved one. It's simpler and easier to remember.
I can't say otherwise. I agree.
It feels bad to say it... Because its something people always jump to. "This logo looks like X or this logo looks just like Y..." But I'm gonna say it anyway - this logo is almost exactly the same as a big super market brand in Australia - Coles. I literally thought he was doing an exercise where he broken down an existing logo to explore how it was built. Do a quick google of the brand name and you will see.
I prefer the original 😬😬 sorry Everton but good attempt. Props for putting yourself out there. Also not sure if it was language barrier or not, but I do think there is a lot of room to improve when it comes to communicating your decisions and process.
No need to apologize. I'm sure there is, thanks for tuning in.
42:12 is typical of, alot of people. When you design something effective but simple. They can always do it better.
It was a good try I admit. When I first saw this video on fixing the logo, I was like the fuck? It already loooks modern af
Maybe if the Everton's logo had 3 divisions instead of 5( Talking about the spaces that look like piano keys), I feel it would have been a bit more scalable, even as a favicon but not sure if it would still look like an instrument. I quite like his attempt otherwise. Also, why are people scared of fixing spotify logo? The wifi symbol did look a little off, right?
Interesting, the new logo is almost perfectly symmetrical, but the minimal elements and symbols of the old symbol still takes the cake for me, the new one doesnt seem like it scales down well.
Also with the visual similarity to piano keys, feels like it might 'discriminate' against the other music that would be on Spotify.
@@jeollim totally true. It's not embracing all genre. Fair point.
@@evertongargioni6909 still, great work good sir! commend the daringness to challenge such a logo mark👏👏
What font is the one used in the intro?
champion gothic. if you check the show notes, we tell you.
Everton looks like the brand identity designer version of Ran Segall from Flux 😂
Nice redesign thought! I like the thought process! Though, I do think the Spotify design right now is just fine.
I can see myself growing on the redesign but it feels too heavy for me to look at. Perhaps simplifying the the logo to use fewer keys and increasing the negative spacing might help.
I kinda like the new logo its more of digital. You can see mic, piano and digial fingers in it.
thanks for keeping an open mind.
"We're going to redesign the spotify logo..." MUSIC GOES LOUD like WHAAAATT?????
I knew when he said to redesign Spotify he was setting up for failure.
He tried.
@Deepest Blue 'only' logo isn't branding. Fail. Also, redesigning a shitting 'no name' company would be a better approach. You can add it to portfolio, where redesigning Spotify, apple, IBM, or Instagram would be considered 'aspirational' or a student project.
@@brockman562 Why?
@Deepest Blue what's are you questioning?
I always associated the current Sporify with these old timey recorning mics 👉 🎙 which I thought was clever
I like hearing mark voice.. He got have his own show
Piano & Strings, pretty cool - much prefer the new look.
I only wish he would have explored another direction for streaming music. This lost the brand equity the old logos had.
Yes it does, I agree with you.
@@evertongargioni6909 kudos for trying something new though, that's the important part. Without an actual brief it's hard.
@@animedreamz2009 Thank you!
I’d like to note that Spotify’s icon is not a WiFi signal, is supposed to be a sound wave, hence why it is tilted to the right and more organic looking, not like the WiFi signal we all know and love
41:41 oh
Would be a great a logo for a Mars terraforming company. From the 80's. Or in Judge Dredd.
Right? Cool
Revised logo reminds me of a piano no cap
I prefer the original. The revised one is too busy, I think. 😊🎶
I prefer the new version
Please bring Zimri Mayfield on the show
You won't beat the original Spotify logo, but I do like Everton's design nonetheless. In fact its so nice it's a shame that it'll never become an actual logo for anyone.
Spotify trade mark especially not rounded one which everton made could be a nice logo for sneakers . it's a front size of sneaker
B
Good
The original is more iconic! and idea of stream music is also there.
The revised has much potential, the original is to childish...if it wasn't a well know company i believe would have been bashed for it's weirdness. Everton's logo definitely has layers to it, it does look stiff however but it's better than the original
Please bring Zimri Mayfield on your show. He's makes great Redesign videos on his channel as well.
i once tried to redesign IKEA logo for my assignment, and my lecturer said the exact same thing. Why would you redesign IKEA? one of the most known company in the world and im confused back then, i thought i was being brave and ambitious but of course i was wrong and needless to say, i butcher the logo 😂
Live and learn.
not gonna lie, his rendition of the logo is a stretch to rationalize. It's going to be really hard to sell this to Spotify. Besides, the original is simplified to a Paul Rand standard. Why fix something that doesn't need repair?
I don't want to sell this to Spotify, ever! lol ... It wasn't my focus at all.
You have to try sometimes.
@@evertongargioni6909 You're being butchered in the comment section , damn bro. I didn't mean to add fuel into the flame, but I went into this with spotify's perspective, and I have to agree with Balloonbot that it's an up to date brand and i see the current logo lasting for close to a century; which is why i said that it's hard to sell. Keep your head up, bro, don't get down in the dumps by the comments. It's a risk we designers take to make the world a greatly designed utopia. Choosing companies to rebrand is difficult because a household brand that has an improvable logo is a rarity. Cheers and keep designing!
@@calvinnguyen4225 all good
Hmm ... It‘s not a bad redesign, but it doesn’t works for me. It‘s better than the actual Spotify-logo, but somehow it‘s „not that“.
I think I would rather play with something like an equalizer, an s and the play-icon.
45:45 Original.
What I don't like about the original is the tilt/angle.
The choice of the logo to redesign makes no sense. You can't beat the logo that simple. Not to mention it works wonderfully.
But we've got a DeathStar Inc logo for free. Yay! :)
First time that I didn't like redesign.
That’s fair
original is great
the original Spotify Logo is perfect as it is ! !
Im not sure about this, it was an ambitious logo to take on to redesign.
I don't think the logo has any depth or substance, it looses all the 'Spotify' feel. I think using the recent visual identity with this new logo was a bit lazy. Unfortunately, for me the current Spotify branding is great and will stay relevant for a few more years yet.
Good try but it just looks like ATand T. Saying that good try Everton, as an exercise this is great.
Do Monster energy drink, their material is abysmal
Yes. Agreed.
nice concept, but now it looks very "techy".
Hmmm
Talking about big shoes to fill right before the ugly Bowie display hit the screen with a horrendous clash of blue-on-blue in the middle of orange. Not into the old AT&T logo or Portland Trail Blazers logo being re-appropriated hah. Actually these are all pretty bad. Still great to break this sort of thing down though.
the original was mathematically annoying, the waves were not well aligned, yet it's better than the revised one, I have an idea for Spotify design and I'll send it to you later.
A
I'll send a computer
Original is best the improved logo is like too much going on
I just uploaded a logo redesign video
It wasnt anything too serious but check it out if you want👀
put subtitles in Portuguese in your videos pls :-(
I appreciate the effort, but I think it falls short. The playfulness is removed; it reminds me of a chip manufacturer, too electronic, not a music streaming service. It is too complex and the edges and points are abrupt, and not soft like music, which is flexible, malleable. It's piano keys, and music is so much more than that.
i think It's to common, i think you need uniqueness and commonness in a perfect balance, like all great logo did. With all lesson we all learn in this channel i think this kinda logo is already extinct.
I am sorry but redesigned logo is not suitable for small size purpose.
no need to be sorry.
Everton Gargioni 👏👏👏👏 Wow, Hi!
The old one is way better :) The redesign looks to stiff and doesn't feel music
I would love to see how Hadeel redesign this. :)
The current Spotify logo/icon is terrible. It looks broken because of the slight lean to the right. I don't think this redesign is really on brand. It's OK as a piece of work but looks retro and more like a tech hardware co.
prefer the new version but just three lines, the current version is very generic doesn't communicate nothing
the original is still better, less complicated. This looks too cluttered especially cuz of the fact that logos have to be displayed on small screens all the time.
I like the new direction he took it alot more then the original. The icon needs some more work but I like it better then the original. Never liked the original icon
Original. New one has way too much detail
Bad logo for Spotify. The platform is much more than music streaming alone this days. Audiobooks, podcasts,... with the ‘keyboard’ logo you exclude all those things.
way overcooked
how not to do a redesign 101
i don't like it at all
Thank you for the feedback
@@TheFuturAcademy To be honest, you guys are being nice in the comment section, but his comment wasn't even "feedback", IMO.
You guys rock tho. Rarely see a community as engaged as much as you guys are.
This is so unnecessary
Is design necessary in most cases?
I wanna see all these cocky designers re-design the nike, apple or even better...the Budweiser script logo! are you guys game? lmao.
I've never put myself out there as cocky, what makes you think that? Also, I literally said on the video I wouldn't present this to Spotify or anyone else claiming "Look at this amazing logo I did!" because I don't believe in that.
@@evertongargioni6909 Please ignore comments like this. They totally miss the point of these videos.
It's idiots like you that make where we can't get awesome great content for free. The point of these logo redesigns is to show us aspiring designers the process of designing. Not just simply creating a logo, but to also create a brand identity for a company.
Geez, people like you ruin stuff for everyone else. Also, I'm sure you couldn't do anything as close as this. The people who are the loudest are the ones who know the least.
