      Yeah definitely agree there, although some “plus size “ people can be conventionally attractive e.g ashley graham ( due to her being in proportion and not a fat slob) , it doesn’t matter, what matters is ur health . Lots of these women are in fact less sexy not even due to the way they look but their attitude , being totally lazy and always trying to force men to find them fuckable.

    I was having gut issues and my holistic health doc worked with me and got me off certain foods. For a time, one food group was removing grains to help speed up the process. As a latina, I got criticized for not eating Spanish rice during gatherings. I even had the comment "so you're no longer going to embrace your culture?" At first I would be slightly embarassed... but after a month, I began to state "if embracing my culture is limited to JUST rice, then that's pretty damn sad. I can dance my salsa, wave my flag and rep my people all with a HEALTHY gut!"

      But my conventional doc offered me drugs and refused to test anything... stating diet wouldn't help me.

And we don’t know anything about her training hours or intensity, how skilled she really is (as opposed to thinks or claims she is), or her frequency of injuries. Also right now she appears young, but there is a good likelihood that she cannot sustain long term participation in dance without running into health and biomechanical issues.

      I was a dancer for a long time (about 20 years) and it's excruciating to be overweight or obese and dance for more than a few hours. It's especially painful on knees and ankles. I've had serious injuries because I haven't been in good shape and continued to perform certain styles anyway. Anyone who insists that fat people can dance despite being morbidly obese is delusional.

      Exactly! Same here! Also, why are ppl pretending that salads are the worst thing ever? It's not like I'm chowing down on dry leaves of lettuce. I usually make a salad with lettuce, tomatoes and variations of other veggies like bell peppers, baby carrots, mushrooms, cauliflower, broccoli, celery and/or cucumber, and then I add a protein, usually canned tuna, and I put a dressing on it: a light vinaigrette. So I got a meal that's super healthy, filling ('cause of the protein) and very low in calories. And it's also delicious. Salads are the best^^

      Alas, that is the burden of free speech. Every word of "wisdom" often comes in a sentence of foolishness. Best thing to do is to just not give such a damn about what others think or say about you. It can be hard for a beginner, but if you give even a slight shit about reasonably harmless comments like that, then you're not too far off from being like these folks who are nonstop "butthurt." You act like she told you to go screw your mother or something. It's not "passive aggressive," it's a typical boomer sentence because most of them stop caring by the time their death date rolls around.

    As a person concerned with my health it’s frustrating when I go out with friends and plan exactly what I’m going to eat (if I even eat out in the first place) so I meet my calories and macros, but if a friend orders a dessert to share or something they’re always like “just have some. It’s not a big deal. Eat a little. It’s okay.” But it’s not. As someone who has a major sweet tooth I have to limit myself to very specific desserts with low sugar and only on the rare occasion or I’ll trigger a binge.

    In both communities, I think they are not ready to change/recover.
    Fat Acceptance people are not ready to face their food addiction, reduce calories, eat healthier, and lose weight;
    ProAna people are not ready to face their food addiction, increase intake, eat fear foods, and gain weight.
    I’ve been on ProAna websites, and it seems the difference is: ProAna people know they have eating disorders, but they recognize they’re not ready to change... while Fat Acceptance people are in complete denial.

    • @cocktailonion696

      I think a lot of it is that fat acceptance people have tried equating it to other social justice movements and a lot of straight men don’t feel represented or served by social justice movements. To be clear, I support most social justice issues: trans and gay rights and representation, anti-racism, pro-woman. But a lot of straight men, especially straight white guys, are pretty anti-“sjw” and I think a lot of it is these fringe movements, fat acceptance, etc. co-opting the language of legitimate social issues serves to make them all look less serious and therefore easy to dismiss. Fat men usually have their own kind of fat logic. It’s generally not organized, but it is present. Like “it’s all muscle!” Or “I played football in high school” or “most men get heavier when they get older” or equating any kind of body consciousness to being effeminate or gay.

    Not long ago I was asked "what is wrong with you?" when I stated I don't eat cake, ice cream etc. I'm past the point of eating to be "polite" now, I don't do shared lunches at work, if I go on a training course, even though food is provided, I'll take my own food anyway. As you say dash, water off a ducks back to me, people can think and say what they like about what I eat, not "joining in" when they have shared garbage, because only putting the best stuff into my body beats the opinions of those who are satisfied with eating poison.

After getting my shit together FINALLY, I’ve lost 50 lbs, went from a size XL to Med, lost 8 inches around my waist and ultimately feel great. But with the topic of skinny shaming, I recall specifically how often my father-who’s over 400lbs-will berate me for not eating out when we go out as a family, or make a big deal out of bullshit. I knew the school lunch food was the bottom of the agricultural barrel and fed him myself, though he was allowed to have pizza on Fridays. Thankfully, other students brought lunch, mostly due to religious dietary restrictions such as needing kosher or halal foods, so no one felt out of place. In the town I live in now, I see that the school lunch choices are so much better than what was available 30 years ago, but I would still want my child to bring his lunch most of the time. Be strong and bring your own food.

    @MademoiselleCl3 Před 4 lety +1

    I just watch Michelle McDaniels video and I found your afterwards, good surprise aha. I agree with some points but wanted to give some perspective about what you said as a someone certified in psychology !
    At 6:50, you talk about pressure fit and healthy people have when they unconsciously show why they are in shape (bringing food, not drinking too much, going to the gym.) sure people sometimes get backclash from this. But they tend to be praised for it too " At least you're taking care of you " " I should be more careful too.. ". Obese and overweight people aren't made fun of or annoyed because people are secretly envious of them. On the opposite, they are made fun of because people, mostly doesn't want to become them. They are viewed as lazy, smelly (classical stereotype among children..), dumb.. Mostly fit people haven't negative stereotypes. Specially at a young age, for teens, mostly being fit and in shape is a GREAT way of being positively valued. On the opposite, teens are so fuckin harsh with obese people. (Maybe because they project a lot of their own fear in them.).. That's why, I think, stigma are more important and more frequent for obese/overweight people.
    (I got way more sources, but at least there is two : about fear of getting fat and becoming fat ; www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/30221195 and stigma around that people and how we perpetuate this cycle victim-oppressor that deserves the cause of having healthier habits www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/real-healing/201308/i-see-fat-people )
    At 9:00 about stigma, you said it all. We need to change the system, how we feed population. I just wanted to add the stigma around employment for fat people just for you to know.. www.cnbc.com/2017/11/03/study-finds-youre-less-likely-to-get-hired-if-youre-overweight.html
    Couldn't agree more about the coercive effect of the group aha
    At 11:00 about " She shouldn't have eat that much ", easy to say.. Some people cope with fitness and gym, others cope with food. Really depends of the education and role models (and so parents mostly.), and others factors. www.jlgh.org/Past-Issues/Volume-4---Issue-4/Behavioral-and-Psychological-Factors-in-Obesity.aspx About coping mecanism, psychology and development of obesity. And why mostly I don't like what we push feeling aside.. For me it's like saying " Meh psychology doesn't mean anything, body is stronger than the mind, if you want to change, just change. " Human mind isn't that simple, sadly. Willpower sure is a factor in obesity, as others are too and I find it sad that almost nobody on here (on youtube, except sometimes Michelle in fact) seems care about those factors. Saying that obesity is linked to mental health issue doesn't mean those things can't be changed. On the opposite, this means people need help and need to change their mentality. And that's what you said about airplane and overweight people, if you only change the sit you don't take care of the root issue. Same here, if we don't take care of WHY someone is eating himself alive, mostly he will never change.
    cmha.bc.ca/documents/body-image-self-esteem-and-mental-health/ Great document of Canadian mental health association about the linked between body image, self esteem and mental health. The parallel with obesity is kinda obvious lol
    Take care you Swolenormous !

    Hi! I’m actually one of the people in this video. I respect that it’s an open forum and you’re entitled to your opinions and criticism and that you are going to feel how you feel about fat people so I’m not going to put energy into persuading you otherwise. I do wish, however, that you had gone a step further and looked at the social media pages of the people in the video. You would’ve seen that the young teenage girl talking about dance is actually a professional dancer, Amanda LaCount, who has been on tour with Rihanna, Lizzo, Meghan Trainor, Katie Perry and more and is speaking from a place of experience because this is her career not a hobby or some pipe dream. Her weight isn’t limiting her from pursuing or succeeding at her passion. You also discussed her changing her mind and how it angered you... before we began taping, one of the things producers covered with us is that we are entitled to change our minds. She changed where she was standing because she realized she had nothing holding her back from standing on the strongly agree line. We actually discussed it further and had it not been edited out you would’ve see she wasn’t swayed, she explained that strongly agree had felt like a big commitment until she said everything she felt out loud and realized she didn’t have a reason not to stand on that line. People are entitled to change their minds and it shouldn’t invalidate their opinion, in fact she emphasized it more. It kinda came off like you were looking for a reason to be annoyed.
    A little background about the video...We actually were on set for over 2hrs and we covered a slew of topics with each person answering every topic... including a prompt about health, which I spoke a lot about as a woman who’s weight is due to my disability and the medications I take to treat it. If you had seen my social media, you would’ve seen that I’m a disability awareness advocate and I discuss health both mental and physical.
    What you don’t get to see is there were plenty of times in the video when we disagreed and had different points of view, but because we as the cast have no control over what is put in the final cut, you didn’t get to see us discuss some of the more in depth questions.
    I will say, it’s easy to take a few snippets of an already cropped video (you’re a CZcamsr so you know how editing goes) and use them to help make your point. You discussed three people’s opinions, three opinions do not speak for the majority of our group or of the plus size community. But I get it, you’re working with what the video gave you. I just wanted to clarify a few things. Thanks for watching.

Yet online, I've heard horror stories from women saying that men yelled at them from cars as they walked, jeered at them as they passed then on sidewalks, etc. Maybe it's the area I live in, but most people here are so busy working and living their lives that they can't stop everything to just make someone else's life more miserable.
