Originally Recorded 12/23/2016
Roughly a month ago, I met up with Chris and Nick once again to catch one of Paoli's oddly activated Hornets (You may have already seen their cool videos of them already). This one is located on the south part of town at Water and 3RD. There's another by the hospital which I recorded a couple times. It's possible there's a third siren, but from all the hunting I did, I couldn't find it (if it even exists).
Paoli has traditionally tested in 'wail', however at some point they started testing them in 'hi-lo' possibly every week, but not always. I'm guessing it depends on the dispatcher testing the system. Another siren enthusiast checked this out last year and it did the usual wail. You could imagine how surprised we all were when this siren quickly switched back to the 'hi-lo' tone.
Enjoy, and as always comment, like, and subscribe for more. Thanks!

I’m addicted to listening to these sirens for some reason. There creepy and cool at the same time.
The creepy sound is to make people react to them when they go off
And I love watching these sort of views on CZcams too

I'd much rather hear a real spinning-rotor siren - like my *Federal Signal 2t22A* .
When concluding a monthy test, love hearing it coast down for over a minute to rotor stop.
Whelen Hornet gets to be my favorite siren now! Thank you for sharing this!

Whelen Engineering:
CEO: Okay, we need some new ideas, the public are looking for quality over quantity.
George: How about a air/electric hybrid siren?
CEO: STFU GEORGE
Molly: Why not put a speaker on a pole, and charge it saying it can travel "3 times" farther
CEO: MOLLY, APPROVED I LOVE IT.
@Mike Graham If something went wrong with the speakers. you'd have another option.

Yeah
OK, STFU.
A cute siren with a very loud soundoff!
Yeah
Awwww it does the high one to the low one
The hi lo tone suites this siren
Omg I hear the courthouse bell in the background. I live in Paoli.
Love that siren. Very cool.
Love the sound of that whelen
Whelen Hornets are my favorite
It stings with sound
I live in French Lick, about fifteen or so minutes down the highway from Paoli. I asked and siren tests are conducted every Friday at noon. Sometimes earlier, sometimes up at nearly 20 minutes late. The one near my apartment (by the school in town) does the wail, not the hi-lo. Just some updated info, in case anyone wants to know.
This is going to be the best video in the world
Siren is like an German ambulance
It's an Hi-Lo siren it is supposed to sound like that
What is the HiLo signal even used for? It sounds like it belongs to an emergency vehicle.
Edit: Solved, thanks guys
Max Grassy the vortexes in my area used to do hi/low for tornado warnings until 2011.
Max Grassy in some case scenarios, especially with 1003s and 3t22s, it is used for fire calls. I have heard of some places using it for tornado warnings too. This county most likely uses Hi Lo just for tests and does the usual Wail for warnings
In my town we have a chemical plant, and the local siren system sounds a hi-lo in case something happened there (chemical spill, fire, etc)
Fire calls
In Indonesia, train crossings sound like that.
I love this video
Wow! It's loud!! The Whelen Hornet is amazing!!!

After decoding the activation DTMF it appears they send alert then hi-lo very quickly so the sirens do a shout boop before starting the hi-lo cycle
A very interesting decision on their part
I love the sound of it
Honestly, hi-lo is the best tone Whelen sirens do (besides the wail tone). I’ve seen an old video of a WPS-2750 doing hi-lo and it sounds majestic! The newer tone is great as well
I love the sound. also, 100th viewer!

Its a whelen hornet

Someone had a tornado at there house and the siren is the same
Its like a german police BMW Motorcycle siren
Correct never heard it in real but ik how it sounds well it does sound like that
Similar to the nee-norr tone mode used on our British police vehicles - 🇬🇧, didn’t sound that eerie to me, not your traditional civil-defence siren walling tone = deliberately designed to sound eerie, and grab your attention to the danger its warning about.
And with the bleeps it reminds me even more of the siren and the (telex?) sounds in the tune of the Dutch crime tv programme 'Opsporing Verzocht' ('Wanted'): czcams.com/video/I2OFXep8UjE/video.html
Wow whelen hornet are my favorites
And too ford crown victoria japan siren
the whelen air horn is a really sped up hi-lo

I agree!
We have these kinds of sirens in hattiesburg
They sound so good
@Laongthong Somruetai then don’t reply.

I'm jealous that you got it in hi-lo lol. Wail was good last year too, I guess.

in my elementary school there is a hi-lo sound in the PA system that is like this but faster and different pitched. for tornado drills and tornado's
probably a thunderbolt 1003
@@misery_fell wha, WHA, PA SYSTEM? A SCHOOL PA SYSTEM??
What's with boththea wail and Hi-Lo activation at the same time?
Thanks
Have completed the Drive thru mission
The Whelen chimes and hi lo sound is nostalgic to me
This is what our town would play if our huge dam broke it would have our town under 70 ft of water in 3 hrs
I dont know but in some strange way im fascinated by the sirens
Well that is a good thing
We all have our own fascinations these days
German Police Car Sound 😂
Why did they do a Wail activation and THEN a Hi-Lo activation?
they are programmed to do that
I imagine dispatch just screwed up like they did just for me. I had a WPS 2909 and waited ten minutes after the scheduled test. It went off as I put my camera in the case.
Because the dispatch lady disiced to screw around with the controll console
i think they had 3 DTMF strings, and the 3rd was for wail. Then, they added a 4th for Hi-Lo and kept the third in the activation.
Most likely a minor glitch in the programing
Paint it yellow and black! 😂🐝
What about the Whelen vortex? It has the same high low sound
Actually could you please make another video I like the siren especially in this town I like this stone
Fire truck germany??? Song alarm???
Sound output @100?
I like that siren also cs8 has hi-lo
The siren in the video is just south of elm street, near the school.
Hey there, thanks for the comment! This one is actually on 3rd Street and Water, next to the river. Are you saying there's a siren near the school? I must have missed it if there was.
Man, that whelen hornet look so tiny on that pole.....
What is making those beeping sounds right before it starts up?
DTMF Tones
[If you don't know, DTMF tones are like little instructions that tell the siren what to do.]

That's great👍👏👏👏
shes literally so beautiful and amazing and perfect
Very true in my opinion early day tornado sirens last longer than the modern up to date ones
The one in this video sounds perfect
It sounds exactly like the siren on a British Police car or maybe even a British Fire Engine or Ambulance for that matter
Kinda odd that most states use this as a tornado warning.
Because where I live this is used as a Severe Flood Warning.
It would be creepier if this was an severe flood warning instead of a tornado.
They test the sirens every Friday at noon.
That sounds like a police, fire truck, or ambulance siren. I made a typo...
Really
Nice!
Whoa! Lots of activations!
3 in total-number of activations
@@stephensnell1379 heh
@@mktissuperkool750 as it shows on screen in the video before the Siren goes off its a 2 tone activation
It looks like a giant speaker on a rotation mount and a pole
Raymon That's kinda what it is to be honest
I have one of my own I got it last week and the driver in it is broken
Raymon Have any plans of fixing or replacing the driver?
That's because it IS a giant speaker on a rotation mount and pole
that's because it is.
How much sound cancellation occurs in that reentrant horn exponential speaker?
Why not have a long exponential path "tube" without folding it back within itself?
Speaker driver wattage?
Late reply I know, but the speaker driver is 400w
@@kansasclocksandsirens Thank you. One driver or four 100-watt drivers in parallel?
My emergencyehicle sirehas two 100-watt drivers in parallel.
Just replaced the two Whelen SA315 speakers with Federal Signal TS100s but put longer cones in the TS100s. Wife say too loud. (We blare the siren asparingly as possible.)
@@robertgift It uses a single 400w driver
@@kansasclocksandsirens Wow! Thank you.
Better to have two 200-watt drivers in case one burns out.

Its right beside the fire dept.

Unless you put the speed at 0.75 or 0.5
No different digits of dtmf.
@@minnesconsinsirens6803 for sure.
Its looks like its sounded like a fire truck 🚒
Well, it seems like Whelen sucks, because their sirems don't just continue the rotation, but turning the other way around then.
That's actually a good thing it does that. Collector rings don't work as well for electronic sirens
DSRX100 Gulp!
DSRX100 For your information, DSRX, I drew a Whelen Hornet in my Sketchbook.
FahmiRBLX the whelens have wires.
FahmiRBLX yeah. Whelen broke its wires.............😂
I hear this in Houston Texas
why does this feel like it should be a chopper siren
How does the rotator in one of these work?
They don't have collector a
Rings but idk
Oh God it's a hornet get the repellent
I was expecting it’s tone to be more deep
Put the speed up to 2x and you got yourself an ambulance siren
That Whelen Hornet in this video had the tone that is identical to the British Ambulances though the tone is not quite identical
I think Catherine at dispatch push the wail button and the Hi-Lo button at the same time
in whelen sirens why do they have like cylinders stacked on top of each other
Mr Goomba Tam Official its the drivers that make them sound
Sirens Of South Carolina of my siren stopped working
Sirens/Railroads Of South Carolina yes and no. The Cylinders, assuming your talking about the black things,Help the sounds go all around. But if your talking about the drivers in the middle, then yes your exactly right.
They have them because it's to make the siren loud and not only that part of the things ask hockey puks they need them to run the signels
Oh you mean the giant stacks of hockey pucks?
Idk why they call it the hornet the hornet should be the p-50
No offense in the shape of design but it’s literally a bell lol
It’s more in the shape of an old lamp
i think whelens the best tornado siren maker
Is it a fan or a speaker and I like it without the speaker
Speaker
it literally sounds like a peaceful slowed down police or ambulance siren LOL
There is a whelen 2810 that will go off on the upcoming Monday. And this time I hope I won’t be late to record it like the other two times
This sounds like the siren's mad
Sound hear like indonesian's train siren
Ye
I like hi lo tone
Imagine if this siren was on an ambulance
I remember when I was listening to it when i Was 8 years old😢😢

I like this sound I think 🤔
Why do you think that?
When the video hits 0:50 the siren sounds super cool
Yeah.
It's like wearing an echo eerie
