That's a clear variation, the client changed the scope of work requesting that you not use the existing tray after you had installed. The rework wasn't too much since you'd not done the terminations and the route length stayed the same, but was still 2 tradies for x hours.

It is a problem with wire-wound ballasts that have a 50 Hz output (all they do is limit the current, other than that they pass the mains straight through). Electronic ballasts of all sorts have an output frequency in the kHz range and no longer cause that issue.

I’m fairly sure them panel lights have a sheet of plastic or some material in the middle of the panel (behind the diffuser) and the LEDs are around the edges, when the sheet material bends in the middle it causes a shadow (hence the orange tinge). Easier to see when taken apart. 👍

I’ve seen some electricians decide to absorb change orders without charging to maintain a good relationship with a customer. But I certainly think it should be done very selectively. Otherwise, the kindness can easily be taken advantage of. I’d personally charge for the change order but perhaps at a reduced rate in good faith.

7:39 well if you have to do extra work you should get extra paid foremost if you done it already and have to do it again, that time needs to get paid, other thing is it if they inform you before you start pulling wires then i would not really extra charge them, if it is the same amount of work but material and such go extra and if you have something special ordered for them which is not to be used because of the change and you can not give it back or use otherwise you have to at least charge them partially for that

My boss has given us new instructions that we have to have the driver up in the air or on the side of the panel, because there has been times when the driver has failed because it's been overheating. Had one a few months ago that started to strobe, then a week later it was back to solid but when I changed the light there was a hole in the side of the driver. But the light still worked. And most weird oart was that there was a smoke detector inside the drop ceiling, almost directly above the driver but it hadn't gone off.

Those JCC sky tiles are the same casing as the Ansel Panels just without the Panel Pod options. 17:28 Putting lights on a different phase to the motor would just alter the perceived angle of a rotating object that in sync with the lights. What was the PF like with all those inductive loads? I hope for their benefit they have proper PF correction on the supplies otherwise theyvare paying through the nose for their utility bill (i meam its RR I half expect them to have soo much cash as to not really care...).
Would a sprawling site have PF correction at like the main incomers (ie where the utility meters are) or would you expect them to be spread around?
I'm not a spark, but as others have said whilst there is a balance between keeping the customer on side for future work and billing for your time, you dont want them contracting to you cause they know they can change the scope of works and you'll just do it (ie abuse your kindness).
I'd probably take this one on the chin, and learn from it, but in your bid work, explicitly write down how you will do the schedule of works, and then as others have said, have a clause or whatever that says the bid is fixed based on the work schedule provided and ANY change will increase the bill (even if reducing the job involved because you still have to factor in the time taken scoping the work, writing how the work will be undertaken etc.. so even if they slash the job in half you still have to re-do all that paperwork as well that takes extra time).
Ultimately, yes you want to build goodwill with the customer to encourage follow-on work, but you equally cant back yourself into a corner of them abusing your goodwill cause I know 'ditching' a client is 100% a risky move that should ideally be avoided if later on down the line they donexqctly that and you can't accept it anymore.
Ie start on the right foot from the outset.

Customer should have been upfront about any future changes they had planned, that’s not on you. You should have stated straight away there’s an additional cost for the hours of work and any materials. They would have been expecting it anyway. Lesson learned I guess.

alot of these places have 1 maybe 2 full time maintainers for reactive jobs and breakdowns but for larger jobs upgrades etc they get a contractor in as it cheaper to hire in a contractor 3 to 4 times a year than employ a team of peoole all year if you employ 5 people 40k each thats 200k then factor in tools, transport and other costs looking at 220 to 230k a year if hiring in a contractor 4 times a year at 10k per job massive saving to be made.

Great video but everyday I'm trying to avoid China where JCC skytiles are made! I wonder how long they will last and how they are made. We really need to start ramping up our own production.

    • @corymac
      @corymac  Před 3 měsíci +1

I’ve not seen a single fitting that is fully manufactured in the uk. And JCC at least own their own facilities, along with full R&D and huge facilities based here on the south coast

@@corymac Agree, I did get a chance to go to the Prysmian cable factory in Wrexham a couple of years ago and was enlightening to see the production line. There are some other switch and enclosure factories but far too much from China. If the world conflicts starts sanctioning China we will come a cropper with supplies.

Edge-lit LED panels are the absolute worst piece of garbage! Seen loads in many shops failed over the short span, because panel is made of multiple layer sheets which yellowed over the time, same goes with cheap LED strips on both side. They're 💩💩🤮

Does make you wonder if that was why the original job was done so poorly....awkward and unhelpful customer. Definitely charge for the extra time, plus materials. Not a sparky, but was in sales and the customer always thinks they're right😂🤣😂which they are until they take the piss once too often.😅

It's actually a bacterial condition, not viral. And most of the time it goes away on its own if you don't touch it. You're totally right he shouldn't squeeze it. It could develop into a much more sever infection if you squeeze it.
