Baby Massage Bedtime Routine - How to introduce a baby bedtime routine

  • Teaching a baby to self-settle and, eventually, to sleep through the night is not a simple task if you don't introduce a strong foundation which you can build on. That foundation is a bedtime routine.
    So, in this video, Nathalie Kaufmann, Pregnancy & Birth Consultant and TCM Therapist, and Mathias Ritter, Science Expert, explain a highly effective baby bedtime routine which you can introduce from as early as 4 weeks.
    In fact, the routine is effective in two ways: First, it is the first step in teaching your baby to self-settle which is the very basis for your baby to be able to sleep through the night. That's because if your baby wakes up during the night and does not know how to self-settle, your baby is going to start crying because they need you or your partner (or somebody or something else) to calm them down.
    Second, the baby bedtime routine that they introduce, also includes an acupressure-based baby massage treatment. In fact, the massage treatment that they propose does not only include the stimulation of acupressure points to support the baby's digestion during the night. It also includes downward stroking techniques which are known to calm the baby.
    Finally, the baby massage bedtime routine allows you to easily introduce anything else that is sleep-related. For example, you could continue with a sleep training after introducing this bedtime routine.

    Thanks so much for watching this video! 😊 In this video, we want to show you how to introduce a baby massage bedtime routine because a bedtime routine is really the foundation to teach a baby everything else that is sleep related (such as self-settling or sleeping through the night). Moreover, we have included an acupressure baby massage treatment which is supposed to support your baby’s digestion during the night and which also includes massaging (downward stroking) techniques which promote calming. Ultimately, we hope that this video will help you reclaim your own good night sleep! 😊

      Regarding your question:
      The fact that only little milk is flowing when you use a breast pump does not necessarily mean that your overall supply is low.
      It can be quite difficult to pump milk. The best approach would be to let the baby suckle on your breast first and then use a breast pump. This can help make the milk flow...
      Try it! 😊

    Hello,
    You guys are awesome. I have watched your videos when I was pregnant and still watching. My baby is 3 months old, I wanted to start establish routine. I have a question, Which oil should I use? I used coconut oil but as he has red skin it actually activates more I feel. I live in Uk weather, could you please suggest me accordingly? Do you regulate the room temperature while bathing?

    • @CareAboutLittleOnes
      @CareAboutLittleOnes  Před 2 lety

      Hi there 😊,
      thanks SO MUCH for your lovely feedback!! 😊 It makes us particularly happy to hear that you keep watching our videos even after your pregnancy!!
      Regarding your questions:
      We normally always recommend coconut oil because scientific studies found that coconut oil is so gentle to the bay skin that even premature babies can be massaged with it.
      However, we are not quite sure what to tell you since you observe that it does something with your son's skin... So, the best thing to do is probably to try another oil (f.e. the baby massage oil that you can buy at Boots) and see if it causes the same effect... If it does, you might wanna talk with a doctor to find out if oil in general does any harm to your baby's skin...
      As for the room temperature: we always found that it's a fine line between keeping the baby warm and overheating him. Because of that, we are not big fans of these fan heaters because it is difficult to control the heat that they create in the room.
      If you have underfloor heating on the other hand, that's much better because it normally comes with a thermostat which allows you to set a temperature.
      Personally, we always made sure that the room has a temperature of about 24-25 degrees using the underfloor heating (at least during the cold months). We found that that's a great temperature to massage the baby after giving him a bath...
      In the bedroom on the other hand, we kept the temperature at about 20 degrees...
      We hope this helps! 😊
      We wish you ALL THE BEST for you and your baby!! ❤️

    Please tell us how many hours baby need to sleep during day time and night time from the day they’re born. I don’t want to make a mistake that I’ll pay for like my friend is. Her baby is 1 and his sleep routine is anything but easy.

    • @CareAboutLittleOnes
      @CareAboutLittleOnes  Před 3 lety

      Hi there! 😊
      IN GENERAL, babies up to 3 months need about 14-17 hours of sleep within a 24 hours period (8-9 are supposed to be during night time). Infants from 4 to 11 months require about 12-15 hours of sleep (9-10 hours during night time).
      Just keep in mind that every baby is different which is what makes this whole task very difficult. The most important thing is really to introduce a routine because babies don't have a sense for day and night right from the start (since it was only dark in the womb).
      We wish you all the best for you and your baby! ❤️

      Hi there! 😊
      We normally start with the bedtime routine once the baby is 4 weeks old. But please do not expect this to work right from the start! At this young age, the goal is to get the baby used to the routine step by step. How long it's going to take very much depends on your baby. Some are very quick learners. Some will take longer. But that's totally fine! 😊
      Wishing you all the best for you and your baby! ❤️

    • @CareAboutLittleOnes
      @CareAboutLittleOnes  Před rokem

      Hi there 😊,
      no, it is not too late at all for self-settling. 😊
      Please keep in mind that your baby was born 1.5 months before his actual due date. Therefore, technically, he is only 2 weeks old.
      This might also explain the short sleep cycle. Such babies often need to be fed around the clock. And it is important to observe his weight and to regularly check, if he gains weight properly, considering the fact that he was born at 34 weeks...
      From this point of view, it is likely that it is actually too EARLY to teach him to self-settle. We normally start sleep-training the baby from around 3 months. However, this does not mean that you cannot do this baby massage routine! You can certainly do it, but please don't expect results too soon! It will take time...
      We hope this helps! 😊

      Hi there Jessica 😊,
      thanks so much for sharing your story with us!! First of all, we are sorry to hear that a C-section seems to be the only option... But of course, the safety of the baby is priority number 1. And because of that it is often better to have a C-section... 😬
      It is incredibly sweet of you to think about us regarding the C-section video. ❤️ The funny thing is that only yesterday, we were discussing if we should do a video on VBAC. But of course, it's also a great idea to do a video on C-section. We are definitely going to record a video on this topic. We just cannot yet say when we are able to produce it. But since April is C-section awareness month........ Let's see! We do our best! 😊
      In the meantime, all we can tell you is C-sections are not as bad as many women believe. During the C-section, you obviously won't feel anything. The challenge are the first few days after the surgery, because there will be that sweet little thing that won't let you rest (although you should) 😊😊. But you can do it!! Keep in mind that millions of other women have done it too!! 😊
      All the best and we really do our best to produce a video in time!

      Hi there ❤️,
      thanks so much for commenting! 😊
      Poor you! ❤️ We can totally understand what you are going through! At some point, you feel like you just cannot wait any longer! All you want to do is hold your little one in your arms!! ❤️
      Please keep in mind that some women don't see any early signs of labor for the longest time. And then suddenly, everything goes really fast: they go into labor in a matter of hours and before they know it, they are holding their little baby in their arms....😊
      Not sure if we have mentioned this already as a reply to another one of your comments, but one thing that really helps many many women go into labor is exercise, particularly, exercises on a birthing ball (like the ones we show here: czcams.com/video/UgrbOc4cebY/video.html).
      And then if you can see any early signs of labor (like mucus plug discharge, bloody show, increase of Braxton Hicks contractions etc.), then something that has worked really well for women at our clinic is a combination of acupuncture and reflexology. However, it would require an experienced therapist.
      You can also do acupressure and reflexology yourself, but the effect is not the same as acupuncture/reflexology by a therapist...
      And then finally, try to relax! Relaxation helps reduce stress hormones which is important because stress hormones can interfere with labor hormones and sometimes block them...
      Maybe one of these tools will help you hold your little one in your arms in no time! ❤️
      All the best for you and your baby!! ❤️❤️

      Okay, that's great to hear because sometimes, if the baby's belly button is too big it could be related to a medical problem which is why it is important to exclude such problems!

      @CareAboutLittleOnes  Před 3 lety +2

      Hi there 😊,
      we can totally understand your situation 😊 (we know quite a lot of parents who experience the same). However, please note that initially, at such a young age, the idea is not to implement a perfect sleep routine. The idea is rather to get the baby used to the routine. The massage does not need to be perfect and you don't need to complete all steps. Just try to teach your baby that - as he is getting closer to bedtime -, he is always going through the same routine: bath, massage, feeding. Over time, your baby will learn to get sleepy when you start the bedtime routine.
      Don't worry if this does not work initially. Please keep in mind that your baby was in a dark place for 40 long weeks. Therefore, your baby does not have a feeling for day and night. That's what we want to teach him.
      Finally, please note that every baby is different. Some learn the routine quickly. Others need months before they have learned it. 😊 Don't force it! It will work eventually!
      We hope this helps! ❤️
      All the best for you and your baby!! ❤️

      to be honest, we are no experts in such things, however, as far as we know, you can increase the platelet count in the blood by eating foods which are rich in folate (or folic acid which is the synthetic form of folate). You know, such as broccoli, brussels sprouts, black-eyed peas, rice and leafy green vegetables in general, such as cabbage, spinach or kale.
      But really, we are no experts (and no nutritionists)! So, please don't rely on our information here!! 🙈🙈🙈

      Hi there 😊,
      thanks so much for sharing your story with us!!! What do you mean: no one is interested? All of our channel visitors are SUPER interested in reading the stories from other mothers!! So please don't hesitate to share your stories!! 😊
      We are really happy that your baby's growth is as it should be!! That is why we always recommend talking to doctors about your concerns because it's their job to make sure that the baby is well!
      Regarding your stitches after a C-section: over the first couple of days, you are going to be at the hospital anyways. So, there is no need to worry about your stitches getting wet. And then your doctors are going to give you something which you can stick on the stitches which helps prevent them from getting wet. So this should not be a concern at all - even during the rainy season 😊😊
      Please keep sharing your stories with us! All the best from us! ❤️

    Sleep is not a learned skill. It's developmental.

      That may be true. But sleep HABITS can be learned! And that's all we try to do here...
