  • There must be a thousand health benefits of the yarrow plant (Achillea millefolium)! This herb continually surprises me with all that it can do! In this episode, I’m excited to share lots about yarrow including favorite present day uses, current medical research, and even traditional historical uses.
    I’m also sharing a recipe for yarrow tea with you. People have been relying on yarrow tea for colds and flu for hundreds of years. That’s because it works so well! It’s effective for relieving general discomfort, but gentle enough for most people and even children.
    It’s best to have safe and effective remedies ready before you actually need them, so this recipe for yarrow tea is a great one to have on hand even if it’s not currently cold and flu season where you live.
    After watching this video, you’ll know:
    ► Why yarrow’s paradoxical energetics make it supportive for so many different conditions
    ► The basics of how to work with yarrow for a variety of common health concerns
    ► How to check that the yarrow you’re harvesting has strong medicinal qualities
    Show snippet:
    “Yarrow heals wounds, harmonizes the blood, rejuvenates the skin, relieves cold and flu symptoms, promotes digestion, and has shown to benefit people with cancer and multiple sclerosis…seriously, what can’t this plant do!” (Timestamp: 15:11)

    Dr. Christopher absolutely loved this plant. He claimed that this was an herb that could think, it would decide whether something should heal itself from the inside out or the outside in. I have infused Yarrow with several other plants in avocado oil and I apply it to my sons clenched hand, contracted, from a brain injury. We have applied splints but he removes them in the middle of the night. He tends to grow something in that crease between the palm and where the fingers join onto the hand. I have tried everything on the market and nothing takes care of this infection like growth. I apply my salve to him every morning and within three days it’s all gone.He does not go a morning without using that. Thank you for your knowledge and I did share this with my girlfriend whose husband is going through kidney stones and kidney issues right now.
    Bless you for what you do and thank you.

    I’m new to yarrow. I was recently at my daughters house and asked if I could walk her property to look for herbs. Specifically yarrow. My property has none. I walked past a spot in her yard where a septic issue had not been mowed around. Yarrow was growing along the side. I was excited. I asked if I could dig it up and bring it home. She said sure! One less weed😂. I’m hoping it grows in my herb garden.

    You've started a little love affair for me with Yarrow! My Nettles are getting a little jealous!!! Finally my patch is in bloom and since last year when it was a mere little patch it has now filled the front of the bed I specifically have for it and I am overwhelmed to report I have a rainbow of colours! I bought pink seeds and planted year before last, and spread a few seeds from dried plant I was using last year also (not from my own patch) now I have white, yellow, peach, pink and red! Go figure!?! I'm feeling pretty blessed 😊

    Hello, wow, yarrow is a superstar! I have been using the powdered leaves as a septic powder for my dog grooming business; when I clip a nail too short, I just applying to the nail, and it stops the bleeding and works wonders. I had another use for this beauty of a plant; the other day, my husband somehow almost knocked himself out with his hammer. He was bleeding between his eyes. I cleaned him up, applied the yarrow powder I had made with the dried leaves, and the bleeding stopped instantly! I half to keep my eye on him, lol! Thank you so much for all of your beautiful knowledge!

      This is from almost a year ago now, but I had the thought that maybe what looked like a field of yellow yarrow was actually tansy, which is a very different plant and can be toxic, so to be careful and very clearly identify the plant! Usually wild yarrow will be white, not yellow, and could have pink coloring as well.

    Very interesting video of Yarrow.. and another example of not putting an herb in a box. I am very curious about yarrow and MS as well as you said showed helpful for fatigue. I am extremely curious how/why yarrow would be helpful for this. And in the video said in the study they took up to 500mg of yarrow a day.. would that be using that amount in a tea through the day?

    Is it ok to go in the garden and grab different herbs to make a tea. Like can I mix yarrow, mint, parsley, fever few? Or is it best to stick with known recipes?

    • @HerbsWithRosalee
      @HerbsWithRosalee  Před 11 měsíci +1

      You can mix things however you like. Until you have experience, though, it is best to stick with tried and true recipes. It's kinda like cooking. You can add a bunch of ingredients together and have a wonderful meal, or it can turn out terrible. Experience in cooking adds to the chances of a wonderful meal.

    I always made tincture according the folk method but want to do it more professionally. If I understand correctly, the ratio is 1 : 5 (but is that in grams, ml?) anyway. I made it in grams but than the alcohol does not cover the plant material, not even when I crumble it. When I eyeball 1 : 5 parts, that can't be right as that depends on how fine you make the plant material... so I need HELP :D THANX and blessings

      It can be tricky! That's why I have an entire course, Rooted Medicine Circle, on how to making strong herbal medicine - specifically for folks who want to move beyond the folk method. Often times to get these ratios to work you have to get the plant pieces very small, even more than crumbling.

      Hi, in general, you can use either fresh yarrow or dried yarrow for tinctures. The bigger question here is did your yarrow look vibrant and fresh when you harvested it? You get the best from herbs when they are in good condition upon harvest.

    • @HerbsWithRosalee
      @HerbsWithRosalee  Před 2 lety +9

      My opinion is that one reason our gut bacteria can be imbalanced is because we aren't getting a wide range of botanicals/plants/herbs in our diet. For thousands of years our ancestors have eaten and worked with these plants and now, instead of deeply nourishing foods, and a wide diversity of foods that are growing around us, we eat iceberg lettuce.
