As a novice reader I'm still learning the Minor Arcana, but think a keyword deck is just what I need at this stage to boost my confidence a little. I just ordered The Stretch Tarot thanks to you!!!

It is my Son's deck and the second edition has been in print now for a few months and will continue to be so for the foreseeable future. I really dig that you made a video about this topic. I think it can be useful if you're willing to spend some time with it. New perspective, to me, is what tarot is about in the first place. Keywords are great with the personality of specific decks, but like you, I wouldn't want every single one to be that way. Another deck I really have been enjoying in this category is the sun and moon tarot. It's kind of a hybrid system imo, which I thought would be difficult, but is actually quite accessible. It has some Thoth-ness, but also some rws. Thanks for another great video. I always enjoy your perspective on this stuff

That was a nice little video. I've never seen the Gill tarot before. Looks interesting, the presentation of some of the cards you showed (esp. 10 wands) was really well done by the artist. Never seen cards depicted like that. Hopefully it will be republished soon indeed. Also one thing I noticed missing from any of the 60 odd comments is this... if you are not sqeemish about personalised cards-Don't be afraid to add your own keywords to a deck if you feel you want to on a deck that has none! I've done that to a deck or two when I've felt like it was needed or if I found a specific deck said something other than usual associations to me. Also... Try decks without keywords or any titled sometimes too. They can trigger a different response mentally too and can create unusual readings. Don't be afraid to experiment my fellow tarot journeymen. 👍😉
Yes! I actually had meant to include the suggestion of writing your own keywords but I completely forgot whilst filming! So thank you for adding that, and other interesting thoughts. 😊
Raymond Buckland, who was of Romany descent,said that Roms won't read a thing but pip cards. They think that it engages their intuition more than picture cards.
As a beginner I really enjoyed DV’s Fairy Tarot. Same set up as the angel tarot, but personally I enjoyed the images better. I feel like it’s a deck you would enjoy!

Decks that I have that have keywords are the Sacred Circle Tarot by Anna Franklin with artwork by Paul Mason (They did the Fairy Ring Oracle as well) and the Barbara Walker in a tin (Which is Thoth based or inspired anyway). Yes, Tarot of the Sidhe does have keywords.
Secrets of Tarot by Amanda Hall. A pretty deck. A few keywords don't resonate with me but that's only 2 or 3, and the rest work fine. The Major and Minor Arcana both have key words.

Thanks so much for this video. I really enjoyed your perspective. I had been on the fence about the Stretch tarot, but your video quality was so good that I could really see the cards, so I went off and ordered it. I may have to have the DV deck too. I am not fond of her personally, but I can appreciate what a great learning tool that deck could be. I managed to snag an opened but never used copy of the Next World tarot from eBay and I am so glad I did. My only complaint there is that the card stock is not great and I am already seeing the lamination peeling. If she does a reprint on better card stock, I would probably buy it again.
Oh what a find! I agree with you regarding the card stock. It’s something I noticed straight away, so I’ve tried to be careful. But like you, I’ll likely get a second copy if it’s reprinted. Which is not something I usually do, but this deck is so special! I hope you enjoy the Stretch!

Hi Katey. Yes, keywords are helpful and I was even trying to look through some books and choose keywords (2 or 3) for each card that will help me with learning. But what I've found, and that made me confused, is that different authors give different keywords for the same card, I've even came across the info that 8 of Cups literally means death... So the question is which keywords should we decide on? When some are written on the cards, they apply to the given deck so maybe it's easier wth this deck, but where to find some kind of universal keywords (thay may help with learning, trigger the intuition etc.)?
As you said, every deck is different, and every reader is different, too! So I’m not sure we could all agree on a universal keyword or two for a card. If you’re finding this overwhelming, my suggestion would be to stick with one deck while you’re learning, and just really get to grips with that deck and what it means to you. When you’re comfortable, then you can branch out to other decks and expand on what you’ve learnt. Hope that helps!
She's denounced tarot and all her decks as being "evil" since she converted. She's gotten really malicious since she gave up New Age and Hayhouse firing her. Lisa Frideborg Eddy actually documented this on her blog numerous times. I would have recommended her decks for beginners in the past (even though I don't resonate with her) but now it's not worth it. But at that same time one could say the decks out live her too.
I’m aware of the DV controversy. My recommendation is entirely based on the deck itself, which I rather enjoy. I don’t think even Doreen has the right to take that away from me! 😅
The Wildwood Tarot comes to mind, for a deck with keywords. Quite helpful to me who's still a newbie, especially since it deviates a little from the classical RWS. I might need to look into Thoth decks, though... I like having one of each type of system I know of, heh.

Great suggestions, I love cards with keywords. However, is it just me or does doreen virtue just seem to churn out deck after deck? I can't seem to take her seriously because of this which I feel is a real shame! Perhaps just me however! Anyway, love next world tarot, is on my way wishlist! Xxx
No, it’s not just you. There are a few people who’ve commented on this video who are very opposed to DV, so you’re far from alone. I certainly don’t this she is beyond criticism. Indeed, there is a lot about her behaviour and attitude that I don’t like. But I do rather enjoy this deck. 😊
I can get down with a good key-worded tarot deck, but I can't do DV... I just can't. I'm ticked how she's started to really started to criticize the tarot community, which is the community who really made her who she is today. I'm alright with her change in religious beliefs, but I'm really off put by the way she's been insulting and demeaning us, and I just cannot support her in any way, past or present work. Her behavior has really left a bad taste in my mouth.
I’m not at all a fan of her recent behaviour. I was talking very specifically about the deck. I personally don’t feel her recent behaviour invalidates her previous work, and I am able to enjoy this deck for what it is.
I agree that her behavior now doesn't disregard her work from then, but at this point, so much of what she is doing discredits her original claims about how she brought these decks into being, that I just can't reconcile the two. She said then that these decks were channeled, direct from spirit, that she felt the rightness, the light of it. And now she's saying it's devil worship. I mean seriously... which is it? Was she lying the first time? This time? Because of the drastic change in her attitude I refuse to buy any of her decks brand new. I found a second hand Romance Angels deck for Emelie to literally play with, wreck if she wanted to, for like $2 at Value Village (Savers), but second hand is the only way I will buy her decks, if I feel called to at all (which I don't).
I don’t think she was lying either time, I think she genuinely believed what she said at each point in her life. It seems her definition of what is ‘light’ changed. But that is just my interpretation of the situation. Ultimately, as I said, it doesn’t matter all that much to me as far as the deck goes. I’ve said many times before that I view tarot as a tool, and I find this deck useful, so that enough for me.
