Take this or leave it but the way I work with Our Tarot is by asking the deck every morning 'whose energy should I harness today?' and pulling one card then reading the accompanying essay. I find this such an easy/low stress option for working with this deck.

Just wanted to say I fully support keeping decks for sentimental reasons. I have a few like that. Sometimes it just becomes that the memories contained in an object matter more than the object. And the object becomes like a portal to a different time. To me it's worth it to have a few of those portals around. You never know when you might just need to hold something and go backwards for a bit.

I find your comments on the Gentle Tarot pretty interesting and was thinking about the types of animal or indigenous decks I'm drawn to. In every case they're animals and/or spirituality found in the Americas. I feel most connected to decks of western north America, such as Brady Tarot, Pacific Northwest Tarot, and Gentle Tarot, because that's where I live and have lived my entire life.
I remember you talking about the Oriens tarot, which I think is one of the more beautiful animal decks I've seen, but there are a lot of animals in there that I don't really relate to, they seem more like plushies to me that a living breathing creature with a habitat and instinctive behaviors that I can recognize. So that's a deck I have only looked through and never read with.
It's like it becomes a language I don't speak, and while there's a greater argument to be made for expanding our community and our world view, I think for me personally, it's more important to reserve most of that learning energy for indigenous people I'm still unfamiliar with, particularly in my own area, than to pour it into understanding animal correspondences from half-way around the globe.
I suspect that a deck featuring animals from Wurrundjeri land would hit different for you than an Aleut or Iñupiat or Alaskan one. :)

I had the exact same experience with the Tarot Mucha…had it, used it a lot as a “workhorse” type easy reader deck, eventually just got kind of bored and found myself not reaching for it. I passed it along earlier this year. I fully admit that I did go 😱😱😱 when you brought out the Liminal! I totally understand that feeling of a deck just not “speaking” to you even though it feels like an overly woo concept…some artwork sparks something in my brain and some just doesn’t, no matter how much I might want it to. I sometimes see people say things like “you should be able to read tarot with a stack of index cards with the card names written on them” and sure, I COULD do that….but my connection with the artwork is an important part of the experience for me, and some artwork simply doesn’t connect for whatever reason 🤷‍♀️

I am currently going through my collection (nearly 100 now) and looking at what I did and didn't use this year. I am not wanting to get rid of much right now, but I definitely want to slow my roll bringing new stuff in cause as you say, if you're just reading for yourself, there's only so much tarot one person can read! I will be curious to see what you decide in the end for these decks.

i have "Our Tarot" and i absolutely LOVE it. It is so beautiful and so well done. I usually do not pull a card a day but i started it up again specifically for this deck I do it before bed, i pull one card, read and then take a few mins to journal about it. I love going through the deck like that. I thought about just starting from the Fool and pulling in order but i settled on random/card a day

😥Liminal Tarot! Ha I bought that deck after seeing the artwork on your channel. Instantly I knew I'd love it and I do! Beautiful deck. Maybe a seasonal deck? Like an old faithful friend who stops by every so often to cheer you up😁 (Same with the Monstarot - it's too original - I don't own it, but can see how it would be missed) I agree - a good unique guide book is worth the shelf space. That's just my 2 cents - Ha Good luck with your deck adventure. 🍀 I like this video idea... But my rarely used decks, I think, are just over used and we needed a vacation. I still love them and know I will reach for them again in cycles.

Ooooh there are so some surprises here!! I will be curious to see what you find as you work with these decks in the new year. ❤😊 I've only ever owned two of these: Our Tarot (the indie one) and Gentle Tarot. Our Tarot I bought as soon as I saw the Octavia Butler card; it's not a "frequent working" deck for me but I enjoy it for a daily draw / single card message. Gentle Tarot I absolutely love, but I do see how 'animals of North America' it is and how that wouldn't necessarily read clearly for someone from a totally different region -- you know I love animal decks but I had to study to get to know the animals of Australia in Laura Bowen's decks!

So interesting what you mentioned about the guidebook for the Mesquite Tarot -- I have found myself purchasing guidebooks rather than decks lately. I'll be interested in the point of view of the creator, but not necessarily the cards themselves. Three, so far. And I'm loving it! Luckily, these guidebooks have images of the cards, so I'm able to do a pretty in-depth study. Thank you for this thought-provoking video! ☺

I agree about The Gentle Tarot, I backed it and thought I'd love it, but have hardly looked at it. I also got the Tyldwick Tarot and though it's something of a collector's item, I find the images hard to make out so never use it. I struggle with the Mary El--many cards are beautiful but some I find jarring so I almost never pull it out because of those few cards. But, should I get rid of them or put more effort into them?? Interested to see what you decide to do with these in 2022!

I think you would regret getting rid of the Liminal Tarot. It is a collectable and years from now, whether you use it or not, it will bring you pleasure to take it out and look at it. And like you said, it would be hard to replace if you changed your mind about letting it go. I could see myself feeling that way and regretting it almost as soon as I let it go. And I'm a person who is pretty good at letting things go most of the time!

Great video! I’m inspired to do the same thing! The way I use Our Tarot is it is my deck for March, Women’s History Month. I usually pull one card a day, then leave that out of the deck so that I pull a different card each day. I do have the indie version which takes up much less space in my shelf. Several of these decks really really surprised me! Maybe the Liminal Tarot is a deck that’s just in your collection because you love it even if you don’t use. It’s pretty much impossible to replace as you mentioned. So I vote for you keeping it!!!!

I am commenting while watching so I’ll edit this comment a lot 😆.
I believe using decks is kind of a cycle process .. you will have decks that you won’t use for a year or two but will return to in certain life stages. I don’t think decks are meant to be used all at same times all times .. I mean we are complex and our connections to decks varies based on our mental, emotional and physical changes .. I don’t think you are at the parting ways step with Liminal tarot ..
You will know when this deck is meant to leave or “finished” its purpose but I don’t see you there yet or maybe ever?
I think the same goes for the monstarot .. if a deck gives you all those feelings.. you keep it. Maybe it’s a warm blanket or something that is comforting or speaking your inner child voice. Please take time before giving away your decks. It’s ok to keep decks that represent certain period of your life ..
I think with most of these decks .. you need 1:1 time .. and just have a spa date .. go through the cards .. pick your favorites .. meditate with some .. have it open and spread the cards over your desk .. just allow its energy to exist in your space.
So, do I do the same? I noticed that I sometimes bought decks that I was doubtful about but they usually are ones that give me a strong “I need to work with these decks” message. I actually just pulled “tarot of the magical forest” .. a deck I got because it was cheap and impulsively but never worked with since then. I trimmed and colour the edges and now it’s my favorite journaling tarot especially since I am working on some resurfacing childhood wounds. I do think that every deck have a purpose and if it made it to my collection, I should find it’s purpose before doing anything with it. I don’t resell my decks and that’s why I am mostly very specific with my collection. I also have decks that I outgrow .. I have one that I got when I was at a state of mind that I am not in anymore and I can see how that disconnect me from the deck. I plan to give it out but I also believe I will know when and the person meant to have it. This deck is the only one I feel strongly about as in I know I don’t want it in my collection any more.

Hi Katey.. I don't own the Mucha deck because.. I guess you Lso mean it is not "daring".. It is kind of a shy attempt to do an alternative to RWS, that it is cheesy enough to appeal some people but not different enough that scares those same people.. And as a result we have something which nobody is too passionate about. If the Mucha deck were a person.. We would say that it is a "people pleaser".
    Am I right?.

I love the tarot Mucha. When I fot mine (second hand) it smelled really nice, but idk why and it smells normal now :( I swear she told me I didn't need anymore decks besides her, and she may have gotten mad at me for buying more decks. Idk... I've only ever felt 2 decks were jealous types.

I'm also questioning whether to hang onto the Mucha Tarot but I haven't really given it a fair shake yet so I should probably try using it more before I pass it on.
I did sell my copy of the This Might Hurt Tarot. I was so so excited for it and then just didn't jive with it as well as I hoped. Also, the quality of the deck absolutely is great, but I find the edging uncomfortable to the touch. I did find her guidebook super helpful while I was a total newbie, but it's available to browse on her website, so that's wonderful.
I also always debate on whether to keep my Star Seeker Tarot because a few things about the colours/textures in the images disappointed me, and I find the tactile experience of it very bleh. (So soft and yet sticky when trying to handle the entire deck.) But again I really enjoy the guidebook messages and the overall feeling of the deck so I'm actively trying to work with it more and give it a fair shot. After my experience with TMHT I was so hesitant to try another indie deck with expensive shipping lol. But I kept coming back to the Star Seeker listing and pining for it. Took my chance and I'm still not sure if it was right. Maybe it got too built up in my expectations.

I think Witches Wisdom will have to earn its space. I want to work with it, but I also want to study it first and there are others in the line for that which I can't wait to get to... much more than the WW. I tend to reach for the Green Witch instead, or the Wildwood. The Romantic Tarot has to earn its spot too. It's purely because of the fact I love Venice that I got it and I think I may have found a different deck which better fills the aesthetic want for me. Hmm. Also the Good Tarot. I do like the artwork and I love some of the majors dearly, but there are others...and the minors that I don't gel with particularly, so I don't use it. There are a couple of others that have just come into my collection that I'm not sure about, but they're so new and I haven't given them a chance yet, so I'll see!

I really took to heart your warning in the introduction that some of the decks mentioned in the list might surprise us and was tense throughout this video because I kept thinking "Please not the Bangtan tarot, please not the Bangtan tarot!!" Hahaha I was wondering if the Stella tarot would make an appearance as well, because just like the Mesquite tarot you'd given it away then gotten it back again.
As for the Amethyst oracle, would you ever consider shuffling the oracle into the Idiosyncradeck tarot? I'm not sure if the cards are the same size, but if they are it might be a way to get some use out of the oracle if you'll definitely be using the tarot! It could give interesting readings that you couldn't get with another tarot deck.
