The total prize money for the women's world cup in 2019 was $30 million the champions took home about $4 million. In 2018 the men's world cup champions took home $38 million the total prize money was $400 million.
      July 2, 2019 women's soccer USA vs. England the fox network alone had 9 million views not including any other American streaming services. BBC for England had 11.7 million views. This wasn't even the world cup. The views for women's soccer have caught and surpassed men's in recent years and yet the pay remains the same.

    • @Buzlter
      @Buzlter Před 4 lety +61

      @@Apocalypsesurvivalduo Yikes, what you are doing is nitpicking, choosing numbers and statistics to suit your argument when in actuality it does not go to the root issue at hand here. The men's World Cup in Russia generated over $6 billion in revenue in 2018. The participating teams shared $400 million, less than 7% of revenue. The winning team walks away with $38 million.
      On the other hand, the Women's World Cup in 2019 brought in $131 million, with the participating teams sharing $30 million - the winners walking way with about $4 million.
      The mens World Cup is the most prestigious football tournament in the world. It is the most widely viewed and followed sporting event in the world, with the 2018 world cup exceeding 3.5 billion in viewership. The event regularly exceeds even the Olympic Games. It is literally the overall most watched live event on television worldwide in the 21st century.
      In contrast, the 2019 Women world cup brought in 1.12 billion viewers. And that is its biggest year.
      Even the freaking construction and preparation for the 2018 World Cup cost Russia $11.8 billion, while the women world cup in 2019 cost France 70 million.
      It's absolutely absurd for the women team to argue for fair pay when nothing about the events are fair. It's the exact same reason why there's a huge disparity in pay between men and women in fashion, modelling and pornography. Those industries are just naturally dominated by women. They bring in more revenue, they acquire more viewership, and are the main driving force behind its successes.
      It's incredible idiotic for them to argue for equal pay in the world cup.
      What i will say though, is that the American women's soccer team should be paid as much or more as the american mens soccer team. It has been proven that they are more successful, bring in more viewership and bring in more revenue to the american soccer federation. However, for them to want and demand equal pay on the national level, is just fucking insane and wrong.
      The transfer of the most valuable players in soccer cost more than what the women's world cup brought in. There's nothing for them to argue at the international level. They don't compare.

      @@Buzlter Did you just try to call me out for nitpicking then bring up the statistics for Russia when this argument was for a AMERICAN women's soccer team.
      And the "131 million revenue" that you stated is nothing more than a misunderstanding. 131 million was their expense report. Please remember to fact check.
      While true that the men's generated 5.4 billion it's also stated that 3 billion of that came from the sale of broadcast rights, the men and women are sold as a package deal.
      Look at the end of the day the League refuses to actually release a revenue report for the women so the only thing we can look at is the view count and at the end of the day the American women's team continues to match the mens.
      Im not saying the pay checks need to match dollar for dollar, they should be payed based on what they bring in. The views and sale have continued to rise over the years yet the paycheck remains stagnant.
      All im saying is that when your workers bring up your yearly revenue you pay them more.

    • @Buzlter
      @Buzlter Před 4 lety +22

      @@Apocalypsesurvivalduo How did i nitpick when i brought the real statistics to your nitpicking one sided statement? Your whole opening paragraph was detailing the "unfairness" in the mens world cup vs the women's world cup in terms of prize money and viewership, and you're going to say that my comment was invalid because you were arguing for the US women team? What?
      You started off your comment on how the men's world cup brought in 11.4 million in viewership vs the women's world cup that brought in 14.3 million in views, which does not make any sense. I figured you were talking maybe talking about the finals, but even in that context it would be false. For the men's world cup final in 2018 brought in an average live audience of 517 million viewers, with more than than 1.1 billion people tuning in over its 90 minutes long match. While the women's world cup final had an average audience of 82.18 million viewers, with 993.5 million people tuning in over its course.
      While quite amazing, its nowhere near the live average audience that the mens world cup final had and will always have.
      Then you went on to explain how substantially different the prize money was for the mens world cup vs the women's world cup, without going into the details as to why that may be? You can clearly see why i call this nitpicking.
      Regarding the 131 million in revenue, i checked and it is true, it's the investment of FIFA rather than the revenue. And it's also true that they sell broadcasting rights as a bundle, however, its obvious the majority is due to the mens world cup broadcasting rights. We are talking about 3.5 billion in viewership vs 1.12 billion.
      Listen, i do agree with the stance that they deserve way more than what they get now, which is something they are slowly going towards that goal now, a huge props to them for that. But i still do not believe the women's world cup should be paid equally to the mens world cup. There's nothing equal about them. And the fact that the US women team go around spouting this nonsense is mind boggling to me.

      I also want to say that mens soccer was founded in 1978 while womens soccer was founded in 2012 that's a 34 year head start, that's why i mentioned the womens numbers are still steadily growing while the paychecks stay the same.
      But seriously for the last time im not arguing against what the men are making. I only care about what the women bring in vs what they're getting paid.

      Never a team was criticize but how much goals they score. In football if there is a great difference, after the 4th goal you dont celebrate (a quick fist or a hug doesnt count as celebrating), also you dont compete that hard. Us women were kind of disrespectful here, they were jumping after the game only because of the ammount of goals. Crappy behaviour.
      Women cant win the same in this sport because of a lot of things. First, man football is watched by millions, each world cup is the most watch event on the planet and it organization is geopolitics, countries spend billions on the event. Woman world cup is watch by really few people. By only participating, the federation get a lot of revenue for the men, probably exceeding it by a huge margin than womens team claiming the title.
      Secondly, is not on the same ground. The Us women loose by a big margin against an american male U-17 team (us male football is awful) in a friendly once and the women are one of the best in the world. Imagine the despair in quality between men football.

      I would add to #1 that men teams, and women teams from countries with soccer pedigree will try to break your legs if you start mocking them during a blowout. This is one of the reasons why it was seen as disrespectful. Megan Rapinoe celebrated like a clown bc she knew Thailand is a joke as a soccer nation, and they wouldn’t even think of retaliating.
      And regarding #2, you’re absolutely right. But I’ll go a step further. Ad money is scarce in women’s soccer bc they know there’s no eyes on the game. Therefore women’s soccer clubs make shit and pay shit. The men make way more bc people go and watch their club games, therefore the federation has to pay them more to convince them to play for the national team. Women’s only chance to make real money is making it to the national team, so obviously they have no leverage. But of course none of these fake woke people know that, or have ever even been to a women’s game, which is the only way they’ll actually narrow the pay gap.

    FC Barcelona is one of the most liked football (soccer) club in the world. That is because they are always one of the top teams in the world, it is always nice to watch how they play, over the years they had a lot of greatest players in the history and so on and on. And their philosophy on their opponent is always like this: "If you are winning a match and start to show any kind of relaxation, not trying hard because you know you will win - you disrespects your opponent and your fans."
    It always surprises me how Americans (probably not just them but some people in general) keep finding things to get the attention from, using events or situations, no normal person with normal thinking patterns wouldn't ever use.

      If you understood how the US national teams are paid you'd realize that they are paid based on viewings and sponsorship deals. The US mens team racked up a total of like 6 billion earnings from the world cup. The womens only got 131 million. You cant have equal pay if you dont have equal earnings for the sport thats just like highschool football players wanting to be recognized like how college football players are or even NFL... its not going to happen until they get up their ratings and more people view it. Womens sports are statistically less watched then mens... lets go off of the NBA and WNBA topic for example... payroll in sports goes off of views and sponsorships that person/team will receive since the WNBA isnt watched and stadiums arent nearly as sold out as NBA games are how can they get paid the same amount? It's a hard situation to be in i understand but if you take all the earnings the WNBA makes and start paying people like NBA players the revenue line will go negative within a few years... its just like paying workers in a small buisness more because they want to be paid like the top tier business its not possible... the WNBA needs to have some profit to keep their business afloat same with the womens national team

      @Juliana Silva they work harder ? Yeah funny. Have you watched female soccer matches ? They are so bad that a team of young boys at the age of 14-16 can beat them. Then there is also the issue that the females are brutal to each other. Now this team scored 13 goals, what does that actually mean ? In a soccers game that means that one of the two teams is really bad.
      Btw you're also making the argument or at least I have seen some in this comment section that because the females did better then normal they should get equal pay but that also means that other female groups did worse so what about them ?

    • @ceshmate1953
      @ceshmate1953 Před 5 lety +16

      @Juliana Silva one final thing. Something you people don't seem to underdstand is in a soccers game of proffesionals, there are hardly any goals made why ? Because they are that good at giving the opposing team no chance of scoring. Games usually end like 3-2/1-1/2-1/0-0 or 1-0 . Also explains why the female made more goals in one year then the men they were compared to in three. And do you want to know the real reason why the males get paid more ? Because everyone watches a male soccers match so they get paid more. The females shouldn't complain about their low payment cause they knew fully wel how much the pay for them is.

    • @ceshmate1953

But even tough you understand the difference between male and female, you're incapable of understanding why they get paid less. 'Sweetheart' no matter how hardworking a trash team is, how much effort they put in as long as they're trash then they won't get paid much. In the end it's mens soccer that people watch because they as you said yourself are just better and thus more entertaining to watch.

It's not about the player's skills, or performance, or results that directly determine their salary. The only thing directly affecting their salary is how many people pay how much to watch them play. Typically the player's performance and good results bring more people to pay more money to watch them play, but that's not always the case (one athelete who's under-skilled and gives under-good results, but has a very attractive physique and handsome and fun personality, who appear more on TV shows and ads, would make more money than an another athlete who is way more skilled and gives way better results, but has unattractive physique, and is ugly, and doesn't have fun personality) So why do female soccer players make less?
