We had two Great Danes show up at our house once after a tornado. They were so scared that they just ran inside when the door was open and tried to find a place to hide. After they calmed down enough, they climbed into our laps and shivered. (Well, tried to climb in our laps. They were HUGE.) None of our neighbors had ever seen them before and we had no idea where they came from. They had collars, but no tags, and you could tell they were well-taken care of. All I could think of was what the owners were going through, not knowing where they were. About a half-hour later, we hear this frantic yelling from outside and the dogs go nuts. We throw open our front door and that reunion was one of the best things I've ever seen. She was crying, I was crying, everyone was freaking crying. It was beautiful.

I went through a severe house fire in 2018 and lost my cat and so I assumed, both of my pet rats. Well the next day I went to the house to see if anything was left and I saw this little thing running around my feet and thought to myself "well that's a brave rat..." Until I recognized him. I grabbed him and he SCREAMED for a few seconds until he realized it was me, and he just went limp in my arms. I've never seen an animal act so relieved. I cried for so long. All four of his little feet were covered in third degree burns and his whiskers were burned off. This little rat healed and lived for another two years after that! He was a symbol of hope and survival for me and my family, a reminder that we were gonna get through everything we went through.
Love is everywhere. A house burns down and a human and rat are reunited and relieved to see and love each other for two more years. There is hope. ❤

Naomi Rivera no they cant track them using a GPS but you take them to a vet or animal shelter and they automatically check and your baby is likely to get home faster. But you also need to keep the info up to date. And if god forbid your dog is hit by a car and animal control picks it up they can find you and let you know.

My house was burnt down due to the Santa Barbara, CA fires. I wasn’t home when they shut down the roads so by the time I tried to return to my neighborhood the fire department would not let me pass to get my dog. One week later we finally found him in a field and yes, I didn’t give a damn that our house was burnt down. I was just glad I found Baxter.

Something about the folks walking endlessly through the broken neighborhood calling for Izzy until he appeared in the distance and ran to them makes me cry every time. It was shown twice, and they'll get no argument from me for doing it, because that moment is absolutely magical.

Awful. I wasnt a dog person. Nor a pet person. I didnt understand. 10 years ago my dad bought a family dauchshund. I will never live without a dog in my life. Dogs are such loving creatures that bring out the best in people. I cant imagine in my last moments just praying for their own survival. These stories are so amazing
@@HLidaze I'm glad you understand why so many care, now. Some people just don't get it and/or don't have empathy, but the thing about animals, especially dogs, is that they don't judge you and there're there for you. It doesn't matter what you look like, how much money you have, and all that, they love you. Even when you make mistakes, they still love you. I forget who said it, but someone once said something about: "If you have no empathy for animals, you will have none for man." and I think that is very true. My big white GSD, a "velcro dog", as behaviorally challenged as she is (many would have given her up, but I didn't) would die to protect me. Doesn't matter how long I'm gone, she always misses me and is worried about me 24/7.

I love the first two stories, especially how the owners literally shielded their dogs during the tornado. I still can't believe the dog in the second clip had actually been ripped out of his owner's arms by the tornado and survived with only a few cuts and bruises.

I remember a story about an old man whose house was destroyed (forget if it was tornado, hurricane, or whatever) and the only thing he truly cared about was his cat or dog. I forget which it was, but doesn't matter. What matters is he found his pet again and was so happy and relieved. You can rebuild a house, move into another place, but you can't replace your best friend.

When people ask why they didn't save their pets. Some of these guys tried and the tornado literally ripped them away. Also that guy talking about his dog flying is amazing

Very true. I had to euthanize my GSD, Heidi, who was almost 15 years old, and it's been almost a decade and it still cuts me deep. Losing her felt like losing my human best friend (I lost a friend, he went missing and is just gone) and she cannot be replaced. I have another GSD now, Dahlia, and though I love her, she is like the polar opposite of Heidi, she is not and will never be a replacement for Heidi. It still makes me cry thinking of Heidi and I really wish dogs lived longer lives. For a GSD, she did live longer than most of them do, at least. Usually lifetime for a gsd is something like 8-13 years and even the cremator I went to, told me he very, very rarely sees any GSDS brought in my Heidi's age. He was a good, empathic man and it was worth the long drive to go to him.
I was in a tornado and it was horrible I couldn’t find my beautiful baby dog Lola and got 3 weeks I couldn’t find her but I never gave up hope that we would see her again then finally I saw her under some debris and I was so happy I started bawling I was trying to lift the debris up from her but sadly it was too heavy I called for help and 15 minutes after a man came and he helped me and now she is happy with be and I’m just glad to save her back

I agree. Anytime I run across a wandering dog, if he or she is friendly, I will try my best to find their homes. I know I'd be lost if my dog got out and was wandering around, likely to get hit by a car, attacked by something, or stolen.

I was evacuated at 3 am during fires nothing worse startled trying to find keys...fire on ground n traffic truley everyone had ptss for awhile with fires not out you really had no idea if you were safe yet. That day I cleaned my friends house 6 hours woke up to get up fires coming over hill fled in PJs...I was shaking...

Our pets really are our babies. My poppycat was with me during my heroin addiction and my recovery, often being my only friend at times and my reason for getting out of bed in the morning. I couldn’t imagine not knowing where she was. We have our own special brand of natural disasters here in Australia, but tornadoes are effing terrifying!
Hope you're still doing well in ur recovery. I'm pulling for you! I'm going through it right now. I was locked up once for a few days and despite being in agonizing withdrawal all I could think of was my baby bunny being ok with no one there to be with him and wondering what he was thinking cuz I'd never left him like that. Pers are gifts from God.

Absolutely! And not just tags but microchip your pets! Dogs, cats, bunnies. So much easier to track down their owners if they get lost. All a vet or RSPCA has to do is scan and there are all the details they need.

@@rasscass5894 Yeah and I'm not sure, but the microchip I used for my current dog is the type where you can go online and edit the info whenever you need to, like change the phone number or address. From what I recall, it's not that expensive, either.
Some of the dogs were like “ thanks a lot” and then others were like “ omg did you see that storm that was so fun!”

I'm having a hard time personally atm. Between these vids and my cat. I know I can find the light to get me out of my dark time. So happy for all these family's how lost their furry members, got them back.

We lost most of our house, and my two best friends’ families lost their houses completely on Aug 3, 1970, to hurricane Celia. Only 20 folks were killed, but the devastation and bewilderment, we experienced, allows me to relate to these victims, and to the joy and relief of finding your pets!
Izzy wasn’t lost in a tornado but a wild fire, she ran away as the house was on fire and they couldn’t catch her, the went back to look for her and see the damage

I remember after the Joplin tornado, I found an Irish wolfhound and drove around with him for a couple hours, then we waited in a petsmart for 8-9 hours longer before we were able to get him home

I think when people are being evacuated they have to evacuate the people first and if there are pets they come after, however sometimes people dont have a choice

Absolutely tragic that these precious babies go through this. Hurricanes are awful, and and I weep, but it is overwhelmingly beautiful to see these people reunited with their beloved pets.

I relate to these folks so much. We had to give my dog to a friend while we were struggling. About 6 months later we got in a position where we could take care of him again and I asked if we could have him back. They were kind and had no issue and were happy to help us. When I got him back it was like one of my children coming home ❤😊

I lost the love of my life recently, my giant Bear, a Tibetan Mastiff and it has broken my heart, not another dog has ever been so special to me 💔

It was awesome of the hospital to allow Abby to come and see her human mom. Not the first time that I hear a place that normally doesn't allow pets inside. But it warms my heart to hear that the dogs have found their way back to their owners. Plus any cats that have found their way back into the arms of the humans who worried so much about them

We recently had a tornado come through Tennessee and destroyed our town (Samburg, TN) and destroyed it. We had all our dogs and our cat huddled in the hall with a mattress over us. Scariest moment of my life. I’m so glad we all made it through it.
Bless all these families. I cried hard. One tornado hit where my grandparents lived.
Now we need to push for all of the children buried under rubble in Palestine to be found and returned to their parents. And for the bombing to stop permanently. Heaven help us all. Life is so precious. ❤
