    15.15 will screw the two units together, thats what the pros do, 19.05 the draws are out of alignment, because the unit is over to the left at the top corner, just push the unit at the top to the right and the draws will be aligned

    It's great seeing you so inspired and excited again after recent weeks! The kitchen looks fab and you got a bargain there. I would silicone the sink and hob in so you have a waterproof barrier stopping anything dripping underneath. If the drawers are still sticking, maybe sand a mm or so from the top of each front if you're painting over them anyway. Looking forward to the next update!

    Don’t forget that you’ll need to stop the drawers sliding open when you drive! Possibly child locks?
    Can you use any of the spare kitchen bits in the garage under the bed? Handy to open into the van living space for extra storage?
    Where are the gas cylinder and water and grey water tanks going? Logically under the cooker. Fridge would need to be under the bed possibly.
    You could add a hinged extension to the worktop for extra worktop for food prep which would fold down when you need the seat.

    Keep the two chunks of wood you cut out for the sink in the stove. You can use them for cutting boards. Or I’ve always heard those kind of sinks. The glass breaks so you could rig up that chunk and cover your sink and or stove to keep things from falling on them in transit. I don’t know that I would mess around with the finish on the wood. It’s already been done to be kitchen safe and fireproof. I’d work around the color.

    Have you thought about hook and eye closures? Run them down the side next to the drivers seat so they are out of site lines.
    Also are you thinking about balancing the weight of the van? Perhaps some storage on the other side? Something about seat high?
    You are having a chair, use some of the kitchen to build your chair giving a cupboard or couple of draws for more storage?
    For your fold out shelf, use an angled leg and a small stop for it to sit on (the leg would be at a 45 degree angle)

  • @Ian-ks9fo
    @Ian-ks9fo Před 2 lety

    Swap the base units over so the sink can drain straight into the waste tank. You're going to use up the space for the top 2 drawers with pipework and have to get it over to the other unit. Two 90 degree turns might leave you with a horizontal waste pipe from sink to waste tank.

    Neil and emmas vlog on fitting locking catches might help ,also maybe fitting some angle brackets under hob might help keep it in place when you apply sealant to hold it in place ,you have done a superb job so far well impressed with your under unit drawer when you fit fridge you wont notice the drawer alignment so much but drawer fronts can be adjusted slightly could put a false front on drawer then attach draw fronts to that but it would bring them forward the width of the false draw front ,keep up the good work its really coming together now you should be proud of what you have achieved

  • @marcrtaylor
    @marcrtaylor Před 2 lety +3

    Personally, I would build a worktop extension at the end of the kitchen unit instead of a chair.
    And have a seat on the opposite side. If you ever need seating for a second person you can always carry a collapsible chair in the storage area. If you are planning on travelling alone, the extra cooking and storage space would be better than an extra seat that will only be used rarely?

    NEODYMIUM magnets will stop the draws. Buy them on E bay. Get whatever size and thickness you want on there. loads of options.
    Sink them into draw back face and side panel. Gorilla glue them in. Job done.
    If you do magnet to magnet they are hellishly strong mate. Or less with mag to metal baseplate.
    Remember when draw is full of things (weight) that will push it out even easier still round corners. I did magnet to magnet on heavier draws.

    I'd use some of the blue doors to panel the front of the bed area in and some of the smaller spare doors for high level cupboards. To stop the drawers flying out screw some big round neodynium magnets to the back faces of the drawers and some more to the inside of the back of the drawer unit (you might need to space it out a bit so the magnets touch when the drawers are closed). Or you can get plastic spring clips to do the same job from caravan accessory places.

    Good adaptation will its coming together, to stop the draws coming out when driving there are lots of ways magnets, straps. But you could use pegs from behind the drivers seat that push into drilled holes through the cabinet into the draw then make a dowel peg that slides in locking the draws. You will lose the top draw to the sink and plumbing, look forward to your next video. Stay safe.

    It's really coming together now. I love the fact you're an amateur showing warts and all. I have no experience building a van. But if it were me then I'd prepare plumbing for the underslung water tanks before progressing too far, even if you only add then in the future. If you don't prepare for it then you'll never get around to doing it because of the effort to take everything out to install them in the future. Also don't forget you'll need plumbing underneat the sink and the tap will need to go to the side of the sink if you have that lid opening to the back.
    Not sure about stopping the drawers openiing. But it would be quite simple to make a simple wooden catch screwed into the middle pillar and can rotate to hod each drawer in place.

  • @seankiing5300
    @seankiing5300 Před 2 lety

    Maybe silicone for the hobs instead of glue? Towards the back of the worktop under the windows you should put something there you don't water going down the back, magnets to stop the drawers opening is all I can think of you can get stick on ones from Amazon so you don't have to drill, the vans coming along and looking good, you got a bargain there with those kitchen units.

    Just a couple of comments, plinth drawers are usually inset to allow space for your toes, when standing at the sink or hob - if this doesn’t matter to you though, that’s fine. However, I would suggest a flush handle (like used on boats/ships - at floor level at least), to prevent you catching your toes on anything jutting out. Perhaps also, push catches could serve a dual purpose here? preventing drawers from sliding out and handles causing a trip hazard? You could also try baby, safety catches inside the drawers for the sliding out problem (the magnets you mentioned, may not be strong enough, depending on camber and velocity😄).
    All is coming together nicely. Kudos to the kitchen owner getting paid to get the old kitchen taken out and away too!)

  • @Sir_Chuckmyster
    @Sir_Chuckmyster Před 2 lety

    At 21:57 I would have had a flip up kitchen top counter a foot in width to give you more work room. When you're done cooking that 1 foot board could just swivel downwards 90 degrees so that your seat is still available.

    Suggestion(s): A light duty cover to go over the sink and hob, so that when not in use as what they are then they can still be used for other things like larger food prep or other projects. This used to be fairly common in homes. I'm not sure where you would store it when in use, possibly fold up or possibly it could be stored above you or even somehow under the mattress. Something metal to cover the burners that folds up when they are in use might be nice to further prevent catching window curtains/coverings up. It could also be removable if you want to take it off.
    Personally, I probably would have put the sink over the cabinet without the drawers as it would be easier to install a grey water catch that way. I would probably opt for a simple 5 gal water tap system as well, once that has a pump so the water jug could be on the floor. Really, that open cabinet could probably house both the grey water catch and the fresh water jug for such a system.
    As far as the drawers sliding open, there are different slides you can use that require you to lift the drawer up a tiny bit before they will slide open. Somewhat common, or once was, for RVs.
    When doing all of this, don't forget about balancing the weight on the left and right side of the van.

    You could glue magnets to the drawers to prevent them opening when driving.

    Hiya Will. Don't want to put a downer on it because what you've done is great but you have to make room to get your waste from the sink. I can only assume you might lose two drawers in the process. But I suggest you send your waste pipe right into the next unit. Good luck with it all.

    You always get an A+ for entertainment. Give yourself another A+ for effort and accomplishing that feat! As you see it is not so easily done but you always push on.

  • @Christophers-Assorted-Stuff

    I would have put the hob on the left and the sink on the right, as you have it at the moment, when washing up, you will have to cross the hob to get to what would be the draining board area. Another problem is where to put the water pipe, waste pipe and tap. You might have to loose 2 drawers to find room, where as the gas hob only needs a single thin pipe.

    Take the lodge off of the sink? Cut a pice of worktop to sit on the ledge in the sink. Then tou have extra worktop and a chopping board (underside) when not in the sink

  • @michaelamarieslade2785

    oh and see if you can coat the worktop with heat resistant as well as waterproof. I cooked for 7 guests in a smaller galley so you'll soon be knocking out some cracking dishes!

    You should run a couple of screws between the drawer unit and the other one just make sure you dont use screws that are too long. that will give you more sturdiness.
    to stop the drawers flying out screw a hook into the worktop then run string or bungee cord down and around all the drawer knobs and back up to the top that should do it
