Kudos to Aaron Judge for 61, and the classy way Roger Maris Jr. has responded. His dad was a tremendous ballplayer, but I often wondered what the outcome would have been in 1961 if Mickey Mantle hadn't gone down with that season-ending injury.
Congratulations to Aaron Judge, as a lifelong Yankee fan, I could not be happier, that the AL homerun record, belongs forever more to a Yankee! Started with the Babe, with 60, then to Roger Eugene Maris, with his 1961 MVP season, now, onto the future, Mr Aaron Judge, #99, like Jeter, MO, Mickey, Joe D, Lou, Babe, Reggie- he belongs to history, forever a Yankee- thank you Aaron for keeping history in the Pinstripes!!
Simply amazing. Best season ever recorded by a baseball player. 61 and going for a triple crown. And the amazing defense and 16 stolen bases. As Boone said "a year for the ages"
It is amazing, and as Baseball fans it's fantastic to see, the fact that he hit 61 AND is a few points off top average is astonishing, a true 5 tool player. However. It's not the best season by a baseball player. A) Ted Williams' 1941 season is probably better offensively. B) some guy called Ohtani keep changing how you now have to consider what a best season is. He is pitching and hitting at elite levels (top 10 across the board in everything) that truly is historic. A 6 tool player.
Respect to Aaron Judge. He is just a fun-loving, kind man! In my opinion, he is the best player out there to break Rodger Marris record! I give all my wishes that soon he will break it. Just wait until the Yankee dugout reacts😏that’ll be fun!
Well, Judge still hasn't broken Ruth's record (60 in team's first 154), so there's that. Hasn't actually broken anyone's record, and he's a long way from the Hall.

No one should discount the talent that Roger Maris had. Like Judge, when The Mick got hurt, Roger played center fielder. His arm was + and as a baserunner he was a +. The only issue with his game was hitting for average. Injuries that were not diagnosed and treated properly robbed him of his power at 29. A 27 year old from Fargo....unequipped to handle the cut throat NY media and getting no help from the NYY organization he was savaged during the pursuit of the Babe. All he ever wanted to do was play baseball. In many ways a tragic story....and gone too soon at 51. A loving husband and father.
Due to the narrative surrounding this years MVP award Judge is going to win it. For better or for worse, it was decided by the all star break, and no matter what Ohtani did after that he wasn’t going to get it. Ohtani was the best in player in MLB, a top 3 pitcher and top 10 hitter this year, but Judge has matched an AL record on a team that is going to make the playoffs. I hope Ohtani gets traded this Off-season, the east coast bias from the media and hate by casual fans is crazy.
Aaron judge leads in nearly every offensive statistical category in the entire major League baseball. How in blue hell is that east coast bias? He’s on pace to win the triple crown and ohtani is on his way to Japan for his usual October vacation.
It’s just hard not to root against Aaron Judge really. What’s he’s done this year is basically something I get to witness while my grandparents witnessed Roger Maris hit 61. It’s just amazing.

I may be an outlier here but I think home runs aren't really very exciting when compared to scoring via a single, then a stolen base, with another single with the baserunner on second creating a close play at the plate.
@@BigR486 Well, I said I would probably be an outlier, but the video is about home runs, a _lot_ of home runs, and not just Judge. Finally, I'd bet that my comment will not negatively affect Judge's feelings of accomplishment.
True. The problem is, it takes one player to score one run with a homer and 2, 3 or 4 players to manufacturing a run on the bases, and each has to succeed. Therefore, a winning offense hits home runs. Ironically, it is becoming that way in basketball where 3-point shooting is beginning to take the place of intricate offensive teamwork.
No steroids for Maris, and no steroids for Judge, unlike Bonds, Mcgwire, and Sosa! This video indirectly dismisses Roger Maris's defensive skills! He was a tremendous outfielder (he once leaped, robbed a homerun in mid-flight and landed in a woman's lap), and often threw a strike to home plate to nab the runner!
Not to undermine Judge , but I think the home run walls are about 30 feet closer to home plate than they were in the days of Maris , Mantle , and Ruth .
