India is the only country not using its Indian origin diaspora players. There are some fantastic players of Indian origin playing in Europe's top leagues , so india should change it's rule and also improve the grassroot structure and system.

Had AIFF listened to what National team players as well as coaches from Bob Houghton to Igor Stimac kept demanding for, India would have easily qualified for the World Cup by now.
So the major problem is the lack of quality international game time.
Still if the National team could get some quality friendlies, who knows India could qualify for the FIFA World Cup 2026.

We know we aren't going anywhere near qualiication for decades ahead.
Correction : india have qualified for fifa world Cup 1950 , but couldn't play due to some reasons.
They didn't have shoes and had to play barefooted. But according to the rules they needed shoes to play football since people did not give much funds to buy them shoes and gloves for goalie they had to withdraw from the tournament.
Its important to make the league strong. Only then we can improve . Playing big teams on a regular basis wont be beneficial unless we improve the league.
India will play once there is a solid player development structure right from the the ages of 4-5 to u19. The work is happening but in fits and starts and needs more impetus and better coordination between the All India Football Federation(AIFF) and the various State Football Associations.

As an Indian, I can swear on my house that India will not qualify until 2038 world cup. This is not just silly words. Our u17s, u20s, u23 /supposedly "future players" are unable to qualify for FIFA youth WC and the latter two doesnt even qualify for AFC Youth C'ship.
Football structure in India is shambles.(investment top-down approach, & credit mongering)
Major point to consider is many places lack football culture. For example, city called Hyderabad had football heritage from 1960s. At present, football culture in Hyderabad is destroyed beyond repairs or any memory.
I will share a small incedent narrated by ex- Hyderabad FC coach. After winning national league, and while he was in the city wearing club t-shirt, a person approached him and asked what the logo was? Coach says Hyderabad FC. The person asks,"what sport do they play in?"
I have heard coaches say, its easy to fix a country with no football culture than a country with WRONG football culture.

It is very difficult topic to grow Indian football because media and channels are highlighting cricket only. On the other side the unit whom government has given responsibilities to look after grow of football, they are busy with their post only and misusing the fund allotted for this. Uzbekistan, Syria, Vietnam, how they are growing should be example for us.
Most of the blame should be AIFF. Wtf aiff is doing but abusing funds. If something can other sports to hinder Indian football is just influencing media on telecast schedule.
Meanwhile, we have no u17 squad as of now while months to go for qualifiers but targeting for qualiication on merit for the same edition.
Unless some miraculous swift changes happen, we can't even get through asian cup knockouts, though qualification on the line.

If not for the inoherent mess of politics and mismanagement by people in power, a billion populace country could make a mark in almost all sports. We are in a false notion that we are the best country and slander other nations but nations smaller than us are progressing rapidly in all fronts.

I think it's not about money (that day has gone). what is actually lagging in Indian football right now is the mismanagement, politics in AIFF and corruption. mostly AIFF members are corrupt (people knows their name well) they only involve in defame one another and don't discussing about football. Our players are passionate but don't get much exposure of football and with this attitude unfortunately India cannot qualify for FIFA World Cup in next 50 years (Sad but reality!) 😔😔
