This was such perfect timing! I'm a teacher doing online learning with Grade 4s in South Africa. We have planned for a fun day on Monday, where I am going to get them to make ice-cream, and now I think I will have to link this video as well! I'm sure their parents will love the fact that get some exercise while making so little mess...

1:40 I tried making it and over boiled it (by a few hours) becouse it wouldn't thicken up. It ended up looking like caramel. That's when I thought I should take it off. I put it outside to cool, and it thickened a lot. It WAS caramel and so I made caramel ice cream! It was YUMMY! The whole family loved it!
Edit: So I just remembered the word for it, it's dulche de leche, not caramel

A Fun tip: If you have a blender bottle, for like protein shakes, take that blender ball and put it in the mason jar. It works as a whisk in the jar as you shake it, and whips it up that much faster.
This is something I do when I would take sweets to work and I wanted fresh whip. I'd pour cream in a mason jar and store it in a fridge until ready to serve. Give it a quick shake and there you go! Fresh whip on the go! :-D

I did this in a bowl with a hand whisk, heavy cream, vanilla (and sometimes chocolate!), and Lakanto brand Monkfruit sugar since some of us can't have sugar. If you accidentally split it, then you just made whipped cream which makes like a nice mousse so no loss.😅

We’ve made “grandma’s ice cream” for as long as I’ve been alive, the same way we make butter - shaken out in a jar. Never needed sweeten condensed milk. And you missed the salt, which helps both texture and taste.
