The reason they can’t see it because then they see that it still looks like the switch but it has color and color buttons and looks pricey and slicker. 😂😅
Rather than solely secrecy, it could be an intuition thing. If it’s essentially a Switch, just with a larger size in all regards with a new dock and a new joy-con attachment system, they’d also want to make sure if it’s an intuitive assembly (attaching the joy-con, docking the system). If the manufacturers couldn’t intuitively attach the new joy-cons or intuitively dock the system sight unseen, that could indicate a little more fine tuning on Nintendo’s part before it goes into mass production. It would also illustrate to the peripheral manufacturers how easy Nintendo wants things to be in terms of attachment, detachment, docking, etc.
At which point, this would simultaneously be the most Nintendo thing and the least Nintendo thing at the same time.
And to build off this post, regarding the rumor that a 2024 release is still on the table, I’m guessing that is more just the fact that the manufacturing contracts haven’t been revised. And technically, the plan for mass production can still go forward as planned, even if launch has been delayed to March 2025. Because we’re talking hardware. Save for anything needing to be retooled (like if the new user end assembly stuff like the attachment of the joy-cons or docking doesn’t work the way Nintendo wants), there’s really no reason revise the manufacturing contract. If anything it gives more stock by launch to also hinder scalpers right out of the gate.
A 2024 release, especially if they are looking for a more solid launch lineup, isn’t necessarily off the table. It’s possible that we could still get it this year. But it’s more probable that it’ll be Q1 of calendar year 2025, probably in early March.

My theory is that, inside the black box, Nintendo is having people feel the strength of the magnetic (or electromagnetic) connection of the new controllers.

While I am not privy to how Nintendo operates with third parties, I refuse to believe they aren't slapping NDA's on them under the threat of legal action if they leak (and we all know how aggressive Nintendo is with legal action).
I have never understood the whole secrecy of any electronic device, if anything talk about it a bunch and build hype. My humble opinion.

I doubt very much the final name of this next console will be switch 2. That is just the codename for it. Much like the NX was for switch, dolphin for Gamecube, and Revolution was for the Nintendo wii

Remember the wii? Nintendo always gave it the name Revolution. It wqa truly a Revolution in gaming. Just remember people were so used to the name Revolution, then just before E3 200 blowout of details about the console, Nintendo changed the name of console from R2volution to the Nintendo wii. Yhry fid that way in advance so that people would get used to the name beforevits unveiling at E3 2006.
