In the film EXCALIBUR King Arthur accidentally breaks Excalibur... if that makes you feel any better.
The sword in the original story that was broken wasn't Excalibur but the sword in the stone, king arthur received excalibur later from the lady in the lake

Yah the Excalibur movie was interpreting the the sword breaking because it was being misused. In fact, the exact words were "My pride broke it. My rage broke it." So Excalibur was thrown back into the lake (or a water source that seemed like a river or creak) in frustration only to be returned much later in full repair by the Lady of the Lake in it's true time of need. It's a pretty cool interpretation of the story. But likewise even Merlin states that Arthur had broken the sword that could not be broken, paying homage to the original story.
If we apply the Excalibur movie version to Chris and this puzzle, you can see the irony of frustration, forcing the piece to his will much like Arthur forced a victory against Lancealot. In doing so, Chris was defeated by not being able to solve the puzzle, as Arthur had lost Lancealot and his prized sword. So many parallels that Chris himself somehow was able to turn his Excalibur puzzle-solving conundrum into a parody story in itself.

Seeing you so bummed out and so down about it literally breaks my damn heart
You should have seen me about 3 hours in to solving it.... Trying to solve it that is... My puppy dog eyes with tears of frustration running down my cheeks would have broken your heart to... This puzzle is OCD invoking Madness it totally had my crying and slapping the table... When 4 hours in and you think you have gotten somewhere and then you move a piece and look for your next move and realise you have pretty much just reset the puzzle to the first move it melts your mind and stabs your brain...
This puzzle pissed me off so badly with about 10 hours spent on it over two days that i offered to send it to Chris so he can solve it beings he can't order a new one right now... I hope he accepts it because if he don't im gonna smash the damn thing so i can say i completed it.

But I'm sure you will not only complete it one day but you will also put it back together which MR Puzzle didn't do ;)
Putting it back together is genuinely 1.5 times harder . It’s 80 direct moves until you remove the first piece and 40 moves after that. Reverse that, work against gravity, your sense of progression. It’s proper gross on the way back

Your a passionate man about puzzles. And it shows in this episode. Your feelings are valid as seen here and into the future of your quest of puzzle solving.
Well on the plus side it looks like it was a glued on piece. So it's fixable. Reach out to the maker and see if they'll repair it? Keep your chin up bud. You'll solve it next time.
You could probably go through and pull out all the pieces and "complete it" then repair the broken piece before putting it back together. No biggie!
That end part is a solid piece, so it split down the grain of the wood- but definitely glue-able still!
I thought it looked like the grain was going in a different direction. But yeah still glueable. Hadeks marow: that seems evil, but also just evil enough to make it an oddly satisfying difficult puzzle.

@@trene6559 If it was that easy to just "glue back together", he wouldn't be having such a hard time solving it in the first place. I hope you realise how much effort and time goes into solving this puzzle. And it's not about the fact that it can be repaired. I think for Chris it's more the time he spent getting ready to solve it now feels like time "wasted".

Ditto Chris, I'd rather see you trying and failing over 20 videos than just never hearing about it till you complete it. Plus the intro rocked and what a twist ending. Dont beat yourself up too hard man, you being honest makes this video worth it. Plus it's not like you were starting off from a completed excalibur, then broke a piece on the excalibur 2.0 in the very next video. Showing what happened when you went back to try and solve something you've had hanging over you forever means a lot to me and I'm sure the rest of us. You'll get it next time my man and even if you dont, we're down to watch and support you on every attempt till you do.

I have to say I started watching your videos because of the fun of watching someone work through a puzzle. I stayed because I liked the way you taught your viewers about how sometimes you can not solve a puzzle. I think this video shows something else. Sometimes a puzzle breaks. Things break in our lives and it can be devastating. Thank you for the videos and I hope you can try this puzzle again sometime.
