    My favorite line from this show is when they were testing ways to save fuel and they couldn't explain how a particular device was supposed to work.
    "It uses an electromagnetic field to vibrate the fuel molecules, making them burn better. But what does that mean? Well, we asked our graphic artist, but he didn't know either." That literally had me on the floor laughing 😂.

    Has Adam talked about where the idea for the blueprints came from? Did Jamie simply have blueprint paper around the shop that they grabbed one day when in need of something to draw on? I'm SURE he'd get millions of people loving it and getting a bigger budget from sponsers or subscribers, etc. seriously i just love the science, the process, the ideas, the failures, the fun. Please Adam do more myth busting or just science experiments to explain science phenomenoms that would be amazing. There don't need to be grandiose, expensive video or experiments. There is a TON of science that is cheap and amazing to do. I don't care about explosions and guns. I was as fascinated about "does music make plant grow faster" as with the "does a hammer thrown before a falling person breaks the water tension enough to lower body damage of a falling person in water" and so on

    I have always adored those blueprint drawings. During this discussion they unfortunately didn't get to the question that I've always desperately wanted to know, which is exactly what paper and pen they used for the drawings. The pens seem to have been metallic silver sharpies, but I have never been able to find paper of the same color that accepts the ink properly. Any ideas?

    • @wereoctopus
      @wereoctopus Před 6 měsíci

      Find some paper that *does* accept the sharpies properly and dye it?
      Actual blueprints use the cyanotype process. You apply a photosensitive solution made of two iron salts (wikipedia has more details) to paper and let it dry in the dark. Clamp the paper to something which blocks light (a drawing on tracing paper, a piece of seaweed, etc) and expose to sunlight or some other UV light source. UV converts the dry salts to an insoluble blue pigment (Prussian blue). You then wash out the unexposed salts with cold water. The process is fairly cheap and very safe -- you can buy "sunprint kits" that are a bunch of pre-prepared paper sheets, meant for children to use.
      So you could prepare your paper of choice and expose the whole sheet to get a "blank" blueprint. Or you could skip the light exposure step and just brush Prussian blue ink on the paper.

I personally got banned from Facebook while working at Discovery, uploading MythBusters video to the MythBusters Facebook group, which was part of my job. Hey. Could you split up the BluePrint auctions?
    Looking through the propstore auctions, there are several that are 3 and one is 4 blueprints. There are very few of those Blueprints out in the world. Some of us who followed the show would really love to have one. Grouping them means that many fewer can get one, and the competition will be that much stiffer.
    Please? Thanks a lot for your consideration, and for your awesome channel.

    So Eric says "His comics have appeared in the LA Weekly, the SF Bay Guardian, Mad Magazine, and Kramers Ergot. His book UR was nominated for an Eisner Award, humor category." And the toy company Adam worked for appears to be ZOOB. Enquiring minds...

    Perhaps the biggest drawback from 'Adam Savage's Tested' is that whenever some part of Myth Busters is talked about-- there are no visual references shown so we know what is being talked about. I understand that it's likely either due to budget/time constraints, or legal issues, but it sure would be wonderfully helpful to people like me to actually see clips of what is being talked about. Rant over.

    • @tested
      @tested  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Legal issues - we don’t own the copyright to MythBusters footage, Discovery does, and we’d get immediately demonetized. Ask us how we know!

    I've been rewatching Mythbusters, and in a sort of related question: How real were the sections pre myth where the cast appears to explain the myths to one another. I assume they were written for the audience and maybe even filmed after the myths.

    The funny thing about Blue Prints is they haven't been BLUE in decades. I recall when I started in design in the 1980's they were reproduced as BLUE LINES. Over the years I worked with original Actual Blue Prints but the latest I recall being dated in the 1950's. I also certainly don't miss the smell of either eradicator fluid or the Ammonia from the Blue Print machines!

    How does this get produced without showing any of them, is it a rights thing, none of them on hand? Just curious. They were in deed a favorite part of the episodes for me. I always thought it was Adam drawing them though, nice to put a name and a face to them.

    Dude, you think Boom Lifts are terrifying? Try the one man lifts! Those are down right nightmare fuel. You're basically suspended in a bucket off end of a sloppy telescoping stick. I'm not afraid of heights, but god damn I was wanting to be tied off to anything else other than that damn lift.

    I've watched every episode numerous times, am a passionate "Since the debut" viewer (as in planned my nightly schedule around when MythBusters was showing), still love the low-budget slide guitar theme and background music, and enjoy all manner of MB trivia. I knew that there was a male Blueprint Artist for some time, but am I delusional in my recollection of seeing female hands (which I believed were mostly Kari's) in the majority of Blueprint Drawing scenes?
