    Interesting video.
    I typically work with much heavier vegetable tanned leather. Always watching and learning what other leather workers are doing to dye and finish their leather.
    Lately playing around with natural walnut ink powder which results in an interesting greenish brown on veg tanned leather.
    A fantastic product for leather is called Leathereque which replaces the natural proteins in leather and contains no oils.
    It does a great job softening leather that is too heavy to be scrunched up. And it is the best product I have found so far to restore old, dried out, antique leather items. I use a bit of it on all my fresh leather products also. Amazing stuff.
    I don't make any $$$ from recommending their product. Try it.

    Very useful video. I work with heavier thickness than on the video, but I shall be giving it a go. If it works then I'll be using it on a Mailbag commission I have to do.

    Hello. Would you do the same process for Pebbled Leather?

    • @IdentityLeathercraft
      @IdentityLeathercraft  Před 2 lety

      Hi Amy - pebbled leather grain is usually got by an emboss plate in the tanning process, however you can create an effect like this if you use veg tan and wet it and press it down onto a flat bed of small rounded pebble and then weight down with a heavy book and leave for a day or so.. Is that what you meant?

      The leather used in the video is from our Vegetable Tanned calf leather, and is around 1.0-1.2mm. :)

      I've been struggling lately and I've been making small cowboy/ Indian style satchels and bags to sell here in this small town I live in here in Tx. I've about use up most big pieces . I tried aging dabbing a thick blend of coffee and water around the edges. It definitely didn't work on that Tan pig skin. I have dark chocolate brown left more than tan now. I can't afford to buy the things needed so I try home stuff . Lol... Even shoe polish.. on sample pieces.. I really need to find somebody close to re-up on deerskin.. I'm down to scraps almost. I lost my home and am living in the living cal motel. $350 a week . Expensive to me. I have a bad back. And it's hard to find work in a small town... All filled up around here.. I'm sinking fast.anywaus . Thank you. If anyone knows here to get deer skin leather cheap and sees this. Please let me know. I broke my best needle last night. Now u only have a big half round one . Don't.care for that one m ,It Leeves to big a hole in thin skin. There's a old country store here that sells stuff rustic. I'm gonna get a pile of stuff made and take them down there in hopes to be able to hang and sell out of his store. He's a old retiers Marshal , still carrys the gun on his Hip . He looks like an old cowboy out of a old western movie .. so my bags and satchels should fit right in. If I keep them looking that style.anyways thanks. Trying to keep my head above water. , sinking fast. I need a miracle..to make rent. Less than 5 days. To raise $350..
