Man you're saving me so much time and lack of confidence procrastinating doing this stuff. My 02 has probably never been maintained to this extent and this is my first experience doing this personally. Thanks for your hard work! Killing it! "Ain't nothin' to it but to do it!" Much appreciated!
Here is a small tip: Apply a tiny layer of FIPG on the grove you show at 24:31, especially on the side facing the exhaust manifold so it will not leak even if the bolts come loose.
If I'm in as far as you are, I'd just take the extra steps and replace the steel line in the block valley. It's about an hour's more labour, and some coolant, but it can save a lot more in the future.
Love all your videos. I have an 01 Sport and have been through that thing front to back. Just did the valve cover gaskets but I’m still leaking oil. I swear the seals and gaskets mated properly and are lined up. Mitsubishi Torque spec says 3.4nm but that’s 30in lbs…I used your spec at 26in lbs. wondering if I need to go back in and torque up to 30. UPDATE: Nope, not the torque. I noticed someone really boogered this valve cover(someone replaced the gaskets before) and the gasket just isn’t sealing right on the front by the manifold. I’m ordering a new valve cover and will try again.
I bought a gen 2 thanks to your video, your time belt guild was a huge help for me to get my montero running again after sitting for months by the previous owner. My gen 2 valve gasket is leaking pretty badly, the spark plug wells are drowning in oil right now too. Can you also do a video on gen2 valve stem seal replacement? I’m having trouble understanding how to set the timing correctly after taking off the cam shaft in order to replace those seals.
hey man, do you happen to know here to locate the charcoal cannister of the purge valve of a 12valve 6g72?, starting to smell gasoline inside my rear passenger .....
Great video. Did this over the weekend. Also changed spark plugs and leads. Put everything back toghether, start her up and idles smoothly. Slight revs and engine dies. If just at idle check engine light comes on. Checked for error codes and im getting 12,13 & 25. Have triple checked everything just incase I missed something but all hoses and plugs are connected. Any idea what it might be?
Brian, after picking old gasket out carefully is it a good idea to use metal brush to clean small pieces? Or that can damage the covers? Thank you for great video!
Thanks for the tutorial as I've got to replace the valve stem seals and cam seals as they are also leaking.
Thank you for this excellent and useful explanation

Hello! Nice helpful video! Whats your best source for parts on this trucks? Specially for the 2nd gen

a metal brush is good, but not on an angle grinder or anything. that's too aggressive
Big job. I got the infamous horn 📯 issue on my Gen 3 now.
oh yes. it's so dumb, all mine are disconnected at this point
Same on the horn issue. Super frustrating..
