    ...The video where I show how I made my awesome helmet mod!
    I use the chemion-glasses to create kinda the same look like "wrench" from the game Watch Dogs 2.
    I would not recommend using this everyday because it does reduce your vision a little bit. (More in the dark than during the day it should be noted.) This is more of a showpiece.

    hey me again ;)
    it took some time (and a fucking heart attack because i shorted the battery wire, nothing broke luckily)
    But i finished mine :D
    i have a "normal" helmet with a black visor, and i don't even notice the board inside the visor, road visibility is perfect!
    i did end up covering the back of the board with electrical tape to make the inside of the helmet less distracting.
    To anyone who thinks of trying this for themselves go for it! I've had never soldered something in my life and even I've got it to work.

  • @zeph_os
    @zeph_os Před 2 lety +6

    I've personally done this mod for my own helmet (I use it to ride my electric skateboard), and this is what I've found
    - Definitely use thicker wires. I used the stock wiring for a while and I'd find it so finicky and also too short to do anything with. Get some 22 gauge wire with some decent insulation and solder on enough length to tuck them somewhere comfortable. My helmet has a battery light on the back, so there's room for a pocket, so I've tucked them there
    -Use two single AAA cradles. I've tried a double AAA cradle to save on complexity, but all it did was fail to power the visor and heat up the components to no end (Can someone explain this to me? I can't find useful resources)
    -Make sure your solders are good. Obviously it's good practice for any electronics project, but for something like this where it's jostling around a bit, anything goes, so if you're splicing wires together, give them some good tugs before insulating them with heat shrink to make sure they're not gonna come apart on you
    -Don't use tape to adhere it to the visor. I've tried packing tape, gorilla tape, duct tape, nothing adheres. I know they've posted a video about how they've actually stuck it to the visor, but me personally, I drilled two little holes in my visor small enough to literally screw the LED's to the visor. Obviously there's less destructive manners, but I was short on parts and found some spare screws lying around that fit perfectly between the eye gaps

    • @TrueHelpTV
      @TrueHelpTV Před 2 lety

      ((Most likely)) You are having a heat issue because the double AAA cradle is running the batteries into "Series" meaning it is doubling to voltage, not the amperage. The "two single AAA cradles" means you likely had it wired in parallel, which was doubling the available amperage which is what makes your device run longer, instead of doubling the voltage and stressing the circuitry.

      I don't think it would work the same when 5 cm away from the visor.

    • @MrDrakenhoff
      @MrDrakenhoff  Před 5 lety +39

      I did try this and there were a few problems with this:
      1. The glasses "arm" are super thick because it's housing the batteries. Unless you have a very uniquely shaped or too large of a helmet, I can't see how they would be able to fit.
      2. The LEDs cause a reflection inside of the visor. The further away from the visor, the more noticeable the reflection from the LEDs would be.
      (SIDENOTE: Note that the helmet that I've currently installed this in is the "Icon Variant". This particular model has a lot longer front to back than your average helmet.)
      If you manage to work around those two things I just mentioned, then yes. It would almost look the same.

    • @MrDrakenhoff
      @MrDrakenhoff  Před 5 lety +3
