We used to do our own blacking. We hired a dry dock for 3 days, jet washed it and blacked it ourselves or with a friend or two, got someone at the boatyard to check it over and filled up the dock again. It was quite fun messing about in the dock in muddy overalls. My partner once rescued a large fish which had got stranded in the dock!
Much easier for someone else to do it 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Glad to see Otis likes kayaking. My dog Sabrina kayaked with me. In fact, I was able to take the kayak into the Meet & Greet room at the kennel. She jumped in, put her paws on the bow, and did her best Kate Winslet on Titanic impersonation. I adopted her that instant! The only time she jumped into water was when we were out on Lake Erie in about 50' of water as she was trying to get a duck. Fortunately I was able to fish her out of the water using the handle on the back of her flotation vest without capsizing the kayak. We both got soaked though! LOL

I've worked around Travel-lifts and they are very stable and are more stable when they have a boat in the slings. You would have to really mess up to drop one in the well.

Love the vlog. Love watching the pressure washer part. Something relaxing about seeing the paint get taken off. Just sad that the paint gets just dumped back into the waterways. It probably always has been and always will be. I'd just like to see humanity try a bit harder to not be so hard on our wildlife. Shaun is looking damn fit. Sad and happy for you guys and this new wonderful adventure. Can't wait to see it and enjoy it from a far. You guys are the sweetest and funniest. Thank you. ❤
Most of what gets knocked of is algae. Over time the paint wears off and that’s why it needs to be redone every few years. Same with all boats in the water all of the time wether it’s fresh or salt water.

I use to work and a marina down here in Bradenton, Fl. Doing bottoms on boats. No fun it was. Specifically salt water with barnacles and other crustaceans. Many boats were not touch in 5 years. Can't imagine the amount of growth in that amount of time. Took more than a jet wash. Scrapping and sanding then three coats of bottom paint at $150.00 a gallon.. And smells really bad from start to finish.. Dont miss that job... Looks good and does add life to your boat.. ;-)

Great vlog guys. BTW when I first moved to Canada in 1067 I was very involved in the design and construction of the first purpose built Container terminal in Canada in Montreal and we used a machine like the one that lifted Silver fox to load containers on and off rail cars ,ours was made by Drott it could easily straddle a container and the rail cars and move them sideways to load or unload the trains our customer was Manchester Liners one of the pioneers in the container revolution .take care give Otis a pat from me

Thanks! That hauling out was fascinating to watch. Watching the gent do the blacking I could hear my mum's voice, "Change into your grubbies first and don't come into the house until after you strip in the garden!" They did a brilliant job. The new owners are going to get a boat in fine fettle. If I lived in England, you would have to keep a close eye on Otis or he would be tucked under my arm as I made my escape.

Wow! Wonderful! This from a guy who is far from narrowboats as can be (in Israel).
I am however excited about your new boat in the making, Will be keeping tabs on that, hope the different crews will be able to express themselves with new technologies like solar, huge battery packs, electric engine(s) to say good bye to that clatter of a diesel, a much needed balcony at the back with a sun deck.
So many great things to keep the narrowboat experience, but with a difference.Same shape that can open your lifestyles and be a much needed model change in the narrowboat scene.
