  • This video is going over the layout of the Sony RX10 IV. This is to help those who have purchased the camera, either to introduce them to the buttons and doors, or for someone who has already had the camera but needed a reminder.
    There are also photo and video samples from the camera at the beginning of the video!
    The more you know, the less you will feel intimidated with the available settings and features!
    If you have any questions I did not answer, please let me know in the comments below!
    CORRECTION: 8:29 when discussing the Tripod screw mount, I assumed the placement was due to balance, however, due to a commenters point (Thank you!) that makes absolutely no sense at all. Doing further investigation, the placement is an engineering issue, and it could not be moved forward due to the lens barrel size. So, my mistake in speaking before thinking, we are all human! I always appreciate constructive criticism so I can do better for my viewers!

    I was a professional photographer back in the 80’s and 90’s. Only really worked with 35 and 120mm film cameras and the occasional view camer. Aside from built in metering my cameras had none of the advanced settings this does. I recently retired and am getting back into photography as a retirement hobby. Bought this camera as an entry level camera to get back into things and learn all the new things that have come along in the past 30 years. This was a great tutorial to get started. Thank you!

    Gosh, here i am in South Africa for a holiday from UK, and bought this wonderful camera simply because it's an "all in one - everything you'll need - best darn up to 600 mm zoom lens" easy to carry around in it's designated camera pouch it fits snugly into.
    I am an otherwise EOS Canon 70d user that now comes with a small collection of 5 lovely lenses, from dedicated wide angle to macro which is all well and good but something else to decide which to pack on a long journey holiday therefore needing a back-pack camera bag.
    So this wonderful RX10iv has proved to be the answer...BUT...I had little time to learn it all to cover the full use before I took off... until this morning....when i somehow found your ecxcellent walk-through video.
    Thank you so much, now i fully understand what all the various buttons are for that had puzzled me up till now. You're the first to cover them so simply and easy to learn and remember..
    The various options in the menue sections are myriad but I'm getting there. I'll definitely go through this again and will now move onto you focusing video you shared in a reply.
    Thank you again.

Where is it located and if convenient to use. 2) is there a bulb option for long exposure. What’s the maximum ? 3) What’s the lens’s caliber ( to check out whether it fits any of my filters)

    Great video. Explained in great detail.
    I do aircraft spotting with a canon 650d and canon 70-300mmL. Wanting more reach now, would you recommend canon m6 ii (32mp) with same lens and cropping the image OR upgrade the lens to canon 100-400mm L ii using the canon 650d. Thanks.

    • @Shutterbug101
      @Shutterbug101  Před 3 lety

      The Canon M6ii is a fantastic upgrade with great tracking and sharper focus, but if your happy with the quality of the 650D I would look into getting the 100-400 Canon or the 150-600 G2 Tamron (and a monopod to help when shooting either of those). The key is if you are seeking better quality, go for the M6, but if your mainly seeking more distance, go with a new lens. And if you are concerned about weight, a change in brand may be a good option for you, like Panasonic or Olympus as their lenses get double the distance due to the sensor size. Let me know if you have any other questions!

    First of all, Thank You, Heather. Very nice "walk around" for the RX10.
    When you were showing us the Focus Area's "flexible spot" it looked like the camera had a touch screen when you were tapping it to change the spot location. Did it move as you tapped it or were you hitting the display ring to make the spot move for you?

    • @noggintube
      @noggintube Před 3 lety +1

      Yes the screen is touch sensitive and you can select the focus points - it then gives an option of touching an "x" to remove the focus point if needed. I've had this camera a couple of years and it's pretty much made my DSLR sit in a pile of dust due to it's versatility. The only issue is night shots as she first says, large sensor's will always win on that one.

    Thank you for this informative review. I'm a beginning birder, and not tech savvy. 3 questions perhaps you can answer, or have already answered: 1. How can I permanently make the viewfinder continuously enabled, where I permanently disable the monitor while taking pictures. I don't want to see the monitor at all when shooting, just the viewfinder. 2. If I want to go from optical zoom to clear image zoom (600mm-1200mm equivalent), will optical zoom transition automatically, or do I have to change optical zoom (off) to a setting for clear image zoom (on)? 3. Can you explain again how to make the Display on the viewfinder when shooting pictures minimal without a dozen icons to see when focusing on a subject (just battery life icon or a few others)? Thank you again.

    Many thanks for a great walkthrough. my RX10 has recently started moving the square green focusing pixels all around the screen when I focus on a subject. In the past it would lock in and the pixel squares would not move around. I have not messed with any of the settings I originally had. What has changed please?

    Hi and thanks for the detailed video. I'm wondering if you have tried Hand-held Twilight mode to try and improve low light shots. I would appreciate your thoughts on this. the small sensor does limit the camera's ability but computational photography has greatly improved the results, at least in the smartphone world and this mode claims to "Shoots night scenes with less noise and blur without using a tripod. A burst of shots are taken, and image processing is
    applied to reduce subject blur, camera-shake, and noise."

    • @Shutterbug101
      @Shutterbug101  Před 4 lety +3

      I did test out the Hand Held Twilight mode when they were dancing because those shots, I found, were the most difficult to capture! However, I found I was happier using the Aperture mode and controlling the variables myself because even using the HHT mode it wasn’t coming out as well as I would have liked due to the challenge of them moving. So I would say for someone who doesn’t know their manual modes or controls very well yet, that mode is a God send because it was better than just using automatic mode. Great question!

      @@kahlospirit24 I’m enjoying it, I’ve not had the opportunity to use it for wildlife yet so can’t comment on the full zoom, but for wide to medium zoom lengths it’s a pretty good camera. I’m so glad I made the change from my bulky canon DLSR system. I don’t have the need for the video aspect of the camera so I can’t comment on that. I hope you enjoy using this camera

    Wonderful overview. I have a very specific question, most applicable to bird/wildlife photography. I learned about the limitations of autofocus with a photo I took of a beautiful pinpoint focus cluster of Acacia thorns with tragically blurred blue Hildebrant Sparrow behind it. Can I use the custom buttons on this camera to rapidly shift between a tight center auto-focus and the mode needed to use auto-focus to follow a rapidly moving subject (the one that shows all the green squares following the object? Thanks,

    Great walk through! I just bought this camera and your walk through takes a lot of stress from learning how to use it. Questions: I downloaded the Imaging edge mobile app on my iPhone 13 but it won’t work. Do you have a tutorial that can help me connect my iPhone to wifi? Also, is there animal eye AF on this camera? And is there a way to turn off the sound of the shutter?

    That was so great - thank you! I've learnt such a lot from watching your tutorial, I was struggling with the online manual, it was sooo overwhelming! One question I have, along the bottom bar of the screen at the base of the camera, there is on the far left, an icon which is showing a number in inches (3") - can you tell me what this is? I thought the shutter speed was suppose to show here? TIA!

    • @Shutterbug101
      @Shutterbug101  Před 3 lety +1

      Great question! And you are correct, that IS the shutter speed! When the number shows with “ next to it, it mean that the shutter speed is opening in full seconds rather than a fraction of a second. So in this case with it being so dark, the camera determined it would need a shutter speed of 3 seconds to pick up an image! Great eye!

      Here is the video walkthrough for the app, and make sure you are disconnected from your home wifi: czcams.com/video/uHdT5VFIwJI/video.html
      For the animal eye focus, make sure the firmware is fully updated and that feature should be added!
      To silence the shutter, you can turn the beep off in the wrench tab and turn the shutter to electronic in the camera tab.

      Start on Auto to get comfortable, then start playing with the sports scene mode to target movement and speed. When you want to learn more about having custom control, you will want to watch my shutter speed mode video, as that’s the mode you will want to use.
