    Thank You. Redoing all my electric from scratch. Your neat organization is a great model to follow. Wasn't sure where and how to place the circuit breakers. Now I am.

      I did install a MRC surge protector and it works perfectly with the MRC auto reverser.

    Very neat and well organized wiring. This layout is the model way to do things

      Thanks Ed 😀. The wiring looks good but short protection on peninsula 2 not working. After a short, it will not reset. I finally figured out the the MRC auto-reverser is confusing the EB1. The auto-reverser just keeps clicking. Ordered a MRC protector. These are hard to find and lot more $$$ than the EB1 but got to try something.

    Good info Fred. Something I've been thinking about now that I'm make a fresh start.

      I suggest you do it. I went for years just counting on short protection in the controller. No issues. The ScaleTrain loco was on booster section and short went unnoticed for extended period of time. Caused by small screw driver on track where I have been working the night before. Learn from my experience…

    Great share Fred great idea always safe to do it block so there’s no blue smoke 🚂👍🏻😎Have a fantasticday and Keep It On The Tracksssss 🫵🚂

    Ugh you just reminded me that I have to finish my power district set up

      Don’t delay. I procrastinated and fried a loco. I’m stuck on a problem now. The EB1 for second peninsula will not recover from a short. I tried two different ones. I finally figured out that the MRC auto-reverser is confused. It just keeps clicking. Took me a while to figure out where the clicking noise was coming from. I ordered a MRC short protector and will see if it works. These are hard to find and cost a lot more.

    Hi Fred, I think the older ones were faster to go back on but didn’t really protect as well as the delays set in the two newer ones. The quick one will cycle off and on frequently and each time it does you take the risk of damaging the booster or decoder. The push button is probably the safest because it won’t try to reset until after you know you have cleared the short and then you press the button to reset it. You might want to put a hinge on the top of that board or any new one so you can sit in a chair with the board supported by your lap or something else.

      @FredE528  Před rokem

      I might have to try a button. The EB1 for peninsula 2 will not restart on its own. I finally figured out the the auto-reverser on this peninsula just keeps clicking which I think causes the EB1 thinks a another short is happening. This doesn’t happen on peninsula 1 with older EB1. I going to switch to see if that is issue. I ordered a MRC protector yesterday. These are hard to find and $$$ more the EB1. Sometimes a hate this hobby!

    Those EB-1's are a good idea. Take it from someone who had to send in his Power Booster for repairs.

    • @FredE528
      @FredE528  Před rokem +1

      Hi Robert. I’ve had dozens of shorts due to turnouts set wrong during my mrr journey without permanent damage. But the one that fried my ScaleTrain loco was different. I had left a small screw driver across the track where I was working late one night. Next morning i didn’t notice the short for quite a while as I wasn’t trying to run trains. I still don’t know the cost to repair the loco but I expect it will not be cheap. I have 3 more protectors to install. I’ll have 6 power districts when done. I’m separating each major section of the layout. 3 EB-1s off booster and 3 off main command station. I also want to rewire the 110 wiring in the room so power to track is not on same switch as LED lights over the layout. Hope you’re surviving the heat. Lot of rain and clouds so far this summer in NH.

      @@FredE528 Actually, today has been nice. I think the high was around 90 and this evening for the fireworks it was in the low 80's with a nice breeze blowing. I was almost ready to put a jacket on.

    I need some but they are a bit pricey! I like how you have it set up.

    • @FredE528
      @FredE528  Před rokem

      Thanks Randy 😀. I’m unable to get peninsula 2 working. There is a conflict with the MRC auto-reverser. Going to try a fix I found on internet yesterday.

    • @FredE528
      @FredE528  Před rokem

      I bought most of my tankers first summer(2021) off eBay. They were cheaper then compared to now.

  • @dundasjunctionmodelr.r-jam8267

    Fred I have the same breakers
    Trying to decide how to divide my new layout into districts
    They are great devices you got yours installed nice and neat

    • @FredE528
      @FredE528  Před rokem

      Thanks James 😀. The need to finish separating to wiring on peninsula 2 then install 3 more. These will be ethanol plant area, Creston, and Cargill Plant. I probably buy 1 more for the coal mine area. I should then have all the major switching areas covered. If I had a lot of people actually operating the layout, I’d put in 2 more. This would separate each side of the 2 peninsulas. In this way one side of peninsula couldn’t short out the other side. But I’m doubtful I’ll have many visitors.

    • @dundasjunctionmodelr.r-jam8267
      @dundasjunctionmodelr.r-jam8267 Před 6 měsíci +1

      Fred have you installed push buttons to manually reset the breakers

    • @FredE528
      @FredE528  Před 6 měsíci

      No, I didn’t install the reset buttons. I considered it but didn’t. They reset themselves after fixing the short but if not I just kill the power. I have two district power boosters plus the main controller.

  • @frankhellman6879
    @frankhellman6879 Před rokem

    Shame about the loco. If it was on a breaker circuit, that shouldn't happen, but sometimes... The NCE Power Cab/Wi-Fi command station I use has a pretty good breaker in it. The loco shorts I've had haven't caused any harm (mostly BLI stuff) and the two, yes two!, reverse circuits, which aren't NCE, don't cause a problem. I've no districts and probably won't have any unless I build out into the other room.
    In the meantime, I've started building some of the models I have sitting around. It gets me into the hobby again. I'll have to post a vid of the one-stall engine house when I'm done.
    I need to retire so I can enjoy the hobby, but I need to work so I can afford the hobby. Catch 22, or as we HO modelers call it, Catch 87!

    • @FredE528
      @FredE528  Před rokem

      Catch 87 😀. Looking forward to a video. I’m thinking the short out sensitivity settings on the EB-1 needs to be increased. I had loco short out on peninsula 1 track with auto-reverser today. This circuit protection job is not going well! 🤬

    Nice and neat setup. I don’t know much… I know nothing when it comes to this stuff. Did you leave the screwdriver on the track and it corrected itself? Or did you remove it and then it corrected itself. I often short my track and the track power goes off. I assume these EB devices turn the power back on? One of the benefits of a smaller layout, no need for boosters and fancy circuit thing-a-ma-jingys.

    • @FredE528
      @FredE528  Před rokem +1

      I just crossed both track with screwdriver and the removed. If I left it on the track then EB, not Easter Bunny, would stay off. If your command station completely goes off then one of the EBs would be good.. Thanks Mark..

  • @chrisdaniell2990
    @chrisdaniell2990 Před rokem

    How did you learn about all this wiring? I know nothing about this stuff. (I just connected my DCC controller to a bunch of feeder wires which go to the track)

    • @FredE528
      @FredE528  Před rokem

      I watched video on CZcams where similar type of layout was shown. Lots of how-to videos on all aspects of model railroading on CZcams.
      I didn’t know anything about power districts since my Texas layout started as 4x8. Even as I expanded I didn’t see need for districts. But with the big NH layout I knew it would be good to have. I might be doing too many as I doubt that I’ll have multiple people operating on the layout. But I’ll be ready.
      BTW, the EB1 for peninsula 2 is still not working. There’s some type of conflict with the auto-reverser on this peninsula. Doesn’t seem to be issue on peninsula 1 which also has auto-reversers. It’s always something!

    • @FredE528
      @FredE528  Před rokem

      How big is your layout? What type of DCC system?
