Watching him since he joined AEW I think he seems younger because he mainly hangs out with a guy in his 20s. I think Darby has massively influenced him as a person. I think it works the other way around as well I think Darby has matured a lot hanging out with Sting. If there is ever an AEW hall of fame you know Darby will be the one that inducts Sting.

I have wanted him to retire for at least 15 years. Some wresting fans are so stupid and nostalgic. Let the legends go. Encourage them to go when it is way past their prime, especially if they can no longer compete at a high level.

@@markgeering5943 you are clearly obsessed with him then because outside of it being the same person, his performance is extremely different. I am a huge John Cena fan. it is hard to even watch him perform now. He is only 45 and is still in good shape but he is a point where he knows his time is coming very soon. He doesn't want to be that guy that sticks around forever knowing that he can't perform at a high level.

I had a rough childhood. And I don't say that to seek pity, or whine and complain, I'm just stating it because it's an undeniable FACT. in summer of 96 my mother committed suicide. I was 11 years old. Obviously that's the kind of traumatic, forever life altering thing that's going to stay with you all your life, right?
Well in the middle of all that grief, and trauma, and sadness, in the middle of all that, one thing I had that was a refuge, a safe haven, a warm place, a comfort, an ESCAPE from all that, was wrestling... I'd been a fan as long as I could remember, and I was a WCW diehard through and through, living in the south. (I still enjoyed WWF too, but was moreso a WCW guy)
Two things I found great comfort in after my mom's death and that god awful, nightmare of a summer 1996, those two things were music and pro wrestling..
I feel like now looking back, maybe I became such a super fan at that time because it helped me cling onto my rapidly disappearing childhood. I can't explain it, but that feels right; it's as if watching Monday nitro every week, looking forward to it all week long, watching nitro and being able to escape from the real world for a few hours each week, I was able to lose myself to the show and the action and actually just BE a kid again...
Anyhow I don't mean to ramble here, but the point I was trying to make is this: when the nWo formed, and by autumn 96 when Sting went dark, and went silent, that whole time period meant so, SOOO MUCH to me! I could relate to this new version of Sting so damn much, for obvious reasons. It was as if Sting was grieving the death of WCW or something, and he'd already been my favorite wrestler as long as I could remember, but now moreso than ever...
Dealing with my own pain and trauma, I identified so very strongly with crow Sting.. And it's for those reasons that he will always ALWAYS be the goat to me, and why he's my childhood hero! The Stinger gave me some much needed peace and happiness in a very vulnerable, troubled time in my young life. He also taught me to fight against injustice, and to be true to myself, and that light triumphs over darkness. For a few hours each week on Monday nights, Sting gave me something to hold onto, and I can never thank him enough for that..
god bless you Steve Borden! we're gonna miss you, we love you man! I'm happy you got to come back and do things on your own terms. Congratulations my friend, enjoy your retirement, for you have most certainly EARNED it!

But in ring retirement doesnt necessarily mean he will be gone from wrestling. I still feel like he has a lot to give...

Time stops for no one and rust never sleeps. I do like this concept of a prolonged-yet-known retirement though. Baseball and Basketball icons will occasionally announce their last season in a similar manner and it often makes for an incredibly cathartic bookend to their career. I hope AEW makes the most of things and that Sting makes the most of every "last stop" he makes to each city along the way.
