  • In this video I’m going to run through my guide to succeeding in your first 10 turns as Rome in the fabulous Total War Rome 2 mod Divide Et Impera!
    This is the first video in a series that will eventually cover most if not all the factions in DEI because I love the hell out of this mod, there are lot’s of new players and I know many of you have requested these guides as well so many birds are being hit with one stone.
    Divide Et Impera Rome 2 can be brutal to the newcomer, even when playing OP factions like Rome, you really need to know how to deal with the political system, your neighbours, public order, everything! The smallest oversight can lead to immediate as well as future issues.
    I hope you enjoyed this video guys and found it helpful. If you did give the video a like and absolutely drop your thoughts and any questions at all!
    Definitely subscribe to the channel for more total war content, gameplay & news like this & thanks for watching guys!

      I am surprised that higher tier settlement buildings are actually giving you food. I just tried Divide Et Impera and now for me at least, upgrading the settlement buildings actually costs food.
      Also, buildings like the fishing port have squalor penalties which you don't seem to have. Did they add it in a recent patch or is it some bug I have from one of my other few mods lol?

    Diplomatic missions need some fine-tuning in my opinion. Felt like there was a 1 to 10 ratio of positive-negative outcomes. Doesn't help that each failure is like a negative 8 to your diplomatic score. Also, its a head-scratcher when your diplomat gets his ass killed by a faction you have positive relations with.

    I have found a way to eliminate Epirus and Etruria in just 5 turns give or take. It’s a lengthy explanation but here we go! For everyone struggling with Phyrrus, this is for you…
    Note: I am using all DEI mods plus the newly released Revised Grand Campaign Beta.
    First Turn: Move your army in Cosentia as far north as you can, don’t bother recruiting any units. I typically disband the entire force besides the general. The upkeep on the units is not needed. Second, move your general in Beneventum north to Roma. Recruit 5 Principes, 6 Rorarii, 2 hired Samnite riders (if available otherwise use Equites), and the rest leves/slingers if you prefer. (Recruiting will take a couple turns). Before ending your first turn, raise a fleet in Asculum, take the trireme and recruit 3 of the raiding boats (lowest cost and upkeep). Use the remainder of your money and the extra from trade deals to start building up Latium. End your turn. (Also recommend recruiting a governor)
    Upon ending your turn, Epirus should move to attack your army from Cosentia, retreat them, they should go right out of Epirus’s move range. This also causes Epirus to not recruit mercenary riders on turn one for some reason, and on turn two they should attack either Beneventum or Cosentia, but you will win using auto resolve (even with just a garrison).
    At the start of turn two, move your fleet down to the midpoint of Taras and Apollonia, this will cause their army in Apollonia to attack your fleet once you end your turn. Trust me, set all your ships to ram and target separate vessels and you will win. Boom, one army gone - on basically turn 2. Next, move your army that had retreated from Epirus to Beneventum and start recruiting leves and Rorarii. Continue recruiting in Roma for your fight with Etruria. End your turn when you’re satisfied with your purchases.
    Heading into turn 3 Epirus will sail their army from Apollonia and attack your fleet, do as I described above - do NOT autoresolve. Epirus should also attack either Beneventum or Cosentia, again auto resolve will win you the battle. Watch where they retreat to so you know where to go. Continue recruiting.
    Starting turn 4 you should have Epirus on their heels, and in the most ideal scenario, they will send their army in Italy to attack your fleet! Too easy! Sink them like you did with their other army. If they don’t go for the fleet however, just keep recruiting low tier units and attack Taras. Most of the time they will go for the fleet though. By this time you should be ready to attack Etruria. I strongly encourage having hired Samnite riders, but if you’re a skilled general Equites will do. Fight the battle manually. They usually position their troops in the trees in the center or the map on their side. Skirmish and then send in the heavy troops. Use your cav to deter theirs. With a little bit of skill and luck, you will have eliminated both Epirus and Etruria in 4-5, possibly 6 turns.
    For an added challenge/benefit, let Epirus keep Taras to keep the water going and delay Carthage declaring war. In my current playthrough, I’m on turn 85 and no war with Carthage. I was able to let Epirus take Cosentia while I took Taras and Athens took Apollonia. Easy profits there, beat them into the dust and either secure Magna Graecia or make them a satrapy/client as a buffer when the war does break out - or just use them to create a hardened army.

      @@biccey6585 Good stuff dude, literally, if you can manage, letting them take Cosentia and keeping them around (they will surprise attack, but no elite units) then Carthage will not declare war. Let's you build up, research and attain new lands/units to prepare for that slugfest - and a slugfest it is indeed. Taking all 3 settlements on Sicily will generally keep Carthage in Africa, but they will still be a menace at sea. I recommend conquering Greece, or at least Macedonia (port city cant remember name) or Athens. Build your fleet of Quad or Quinquiremes there and take the fight to em. Sailing with transport ships, the AI looks at that as a huge army (even though they could just ram tranports) and will run away. Makes landing at Carthage easy. Though once landed in Africa, be prepared for stacks of Carthaginian troops and allies coming from the west from Spain. The corridor to the west of Carthage is where they will enter from and is naturally an easy choke point to bog them down. Rest of Africa is a breeze, especially if you can ally Eqypt and have them guard your east flank.

Between my last comment and now, I have restarted my campaign 3 times after a hundred turns or so, because I was messing up some crucial mechanics (diplomacy, politics, buildings, character builds... etc... there is so many things you can do wrong in this game)
    After these 3 * 100 turns, I figured some of the things of your guide myself, but I still learned some very interesting adjustements and tricks.
    If you want to push it to turn 20, and also show up some real battles, be my guess :)

    I wouldn’t even bother with recruiting hastati. I always have a reinforcement army in defense stance when I play this mod. Have your main general lead your lighter troops and missiles, cav, and have reinforcing general have your ground pounders, the heavy infantry, all 19. That way they get the extra melee defense bonus. It is perfect for siege, especially when you have artillery to open up breaches in walls. Keep in mind when doing this the enemy may try and rush you, so deploy near to where your reinforcements are coming from.
    Combat advice. When you have heavy infantry in a special formation, use your units mass to push into the enemy lines. The alt move command is great fro line battle commands. Be sure to have flanking elements when doing this, as the ai absolutely goes for your flanks.

    You can eliminate Epeiros really quickly by parking a fleet with 3 support ships right outside of their city on turn 2. Don't move the army in Beneventum or else Epeiros will move to attack it, and you'll have to actually fight them. Do that, and the AI will almost always move their army out to sea to attack, where you can ram them right into Davy Jones Locker. Park it in-between Taras and Apollonia and you can take out both of their armies before turn 3. After that the only thing protecting Taras is the garry, which is no match against your troops.

    I recently played a lot of DEI and I think phalanx units are way too strong and op in this mod. Playing as Rome i use legionaries as some flanking dudes and phalanx mercenaries (hoplites) as "main" line because they just simply hold the line and do not die while I do some flanking maneuvers etc. What do you think ?

    • @TheTerminatorGaming
      @TheTerminatorGaming  Před 2 lety +4

      Thing is, yes Phalanx units are incredibly good at holding a frontline, I wouldn't say they are OP because every other area is a weakness to them. Get a cav unit to charge it twice from behind and it will start losing a lot of morale and suffer casualties.
      But if as you have done you get decent infantry to flank around the enemy while you keep them pinned with phalanx then you will almost always win your battle against the AI, even when heavily outnumbered.

    • @Pawsk
      @Pawsk Před 2 lety +3

      Pikes are completely impossible to enjoy against the AI, its simply too easy. I really with they would make them viable to beat in a frontal assault. Perhabs making them strong early in the fight but weaker as the enemy breaks down the formation.

    1st off, exceptional vid. Now, what got me here was during my first playthrough with DEI, (and in fact after only 35hrs in TWR2 vanilla) , was a problem with "Sanitation" as soon as I took Taras, and because I was researching mostly Military, I was properly fooked with an Aqueduct coming in at no less than @10 turns. I also had the Public Order problem with the Province, so game over. It was great to see how you side-stepped that issue. Or was I just unlucky? Would be great to see a vid on managing city growth further on in a playthrough.
    In terms of a future "First 10 Turns", I'd personally love to see how you play a Brittainia scenario! Now I'm off to Carthage's First 10 Turns! Cheers~

    • @TheTerminatorGaming
      @TheTerminatorGaming  Před rokem +1

      Sanitation is pretty straightforward if you get the building built. The penalties aren’t severe enough to prioritise imo. I wouldn’t say I side stepped it I just don’t think it became a problem at all. Thanks for the feedback and glad you enjoyed the video! ❤️

    Really usefull one! Thanks for this guide :) It helps to don't get lost in such a large game at the begining (I have just installed it). One thing that I can point out: since english is not my native language, some words and phrases were truly difficult to understand even with translator. One example - I really struggled to understand what does mean "you can just wing it" (15:56) cause google translate it as "encircle" or literally "wing it" so the army can fly ("oflankować" or "uskrzydlić" in Polish) but I guess from the context that it should be understood as "you can don't care" (not sure if that's correct tho). It might be a minor thing from the perspective of anglo-speaking authors and viewers, but I'm sure that there are lots of begginers, whose English language skills are at a lower level than mine, so they would have significant problems with understanding the content. All the best and thanks again!
