    About having less ranged troops, this only applies if you use low armor troops. In my recent Massalia campaign my armies only have 2 peltasts on the flanks and 2 ballista units for taking out heavy units or generals. I simply let enemy ranged troops shoot at my heavily armored hoplites, but as long as I keep them forward facing they barely suffer casualties while my peltasts and ballistas get kills in the hundreds. Once the enemy infantry is engaged I can then easily take them out with cavalry (it only takes a few seconds for cav to make light ranged troops route).
    Another thing I'd add is taking some time to stabilize and develop regions after a war if possible. Newly conquered regions are often financially dissapointing at the beginning, but develop quite fast if there arent any rebellions.
    And on the topic of empire maintenance, build libraries mid-lategame. They reduce empire maintenance, give 1st and 2nd class pop, add research rate and they dont add any negative public order or consume food. Higher levels do reduce regional income, but at some point empire maintenance is greater than that loss. They are often overlooked because in the basegame they are useless, but in DEI they really start to shine once you've conquered some provinces.

      Agreed to a certain extend though you should be able to cover the future cost if you invest those general, admiral & dignitary skill points into maintaining empire maintenance. So if you had like 10 characters all contributing -3% on average that -30% you'd take away. A pretty big chunk!

    Awesome! I found everything in the video extremely helpful! And I must say, empire maintenance almost destroyed my empire as I expanded too fast and had only 2 dignitaries. I like how DEI makes not only the battles fun but struggling to manage your empire as well, something that newer total war titles lack. Would certainly like a video about battles!

    Love this mod. So many great mechanics and its just so much more challenging and engaging than vanilla. Just now have all of Greece/Crete and Italy conquered. Moving to take on Carthage since they declared war on me and are invading boot of Italy. Have Corsica and moving on Sicily with 3 late reformed armies. Love those $6k trade deals I can get out of enemies of my enemies. Haha Culture is hardest thing along with public order to manage. Amazing what giving negative instead of positive Public Order with armies garrisoned IN cities can do to strategic placement. I always upgrade my generals for public order and cultural conversion. I've never found much benefit to authority upgrades and what not or like 8% less chance of agent action ha. Maybe I just haven't got to late game but agents are nonexistent in their use from AI. Mod reminds me of Heart of Iron IV's (and III) mod BlackIce.

If you can, build as many alliances as possible. When all the full stack Persians come you won't have time to fight the barbarians so having them as buffer states helps alot. Scordisi, Epiros, Sparta, Ardaei etc. All are friendly towards Macedon. Also make sure you recruit Alexander's Marshalls. They're absolute monster units and most of them have the scare everyone trait.

    Aggressive play is really the way to go in most cases. I disagree with the ranged troops in the army. I am really successful in the early game to rush my neighbors with cheep 300 man melee infantry and auto resolve. Cavalry is too expensive in the very first turns and also dies in auto resolves, especially when attacking a settlement and since you don't fight manually too often that early on, they are not that useful. When you start to play battles, you definitely need cavalry. Ranged infantry is not that effective and can be rushed down when the armies are smaller and with few elite units. Numbers are the key and ranged troops waste them and even when using all of their ammunition are in my experience not worth the time and cost.
    Other than that, really well said and you also covered most of it.
    Eventhough your statement at 0:18 did not turn out to be true, I still welcome any DeI video no matter the context. Maybe you even want to start doing early game examples of factions to beat an eventual multiplayer enemy.

    • @TheTerminatorGaming
      @TheTerminatorGaming  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks mate :) I guess for ranged infantry it depends on what your up against, but I always enjoy a good range spam :D Appreciate the comment and the watch, I know you're a veteran so thought you'd know it all :) I am thinking about faction specific guides so stay tuned :)

      @@TheTerminatorGaming Don't listen to Manuel, he's crazy. Do you know why?
      kestrosphendones.
      When these guys get in range, they have enough firepower to absolutely DESTROY a Hoplite Phalanx by firing into it head on, and considering how dangerous taking a pikeman unit can be, especially when you use hoplites, or have fewer pikeman units, these guys can be a lifesaver, and that's even not mentioning the devastation these *monsters* cause when they shoot a unit *from behind!*
      I wonder how these guys'd fare against war elephants?

    • @manuel4964
      @manuel4964 Před 3 lety

      @@JMObyx First off, this unit is only available for Syracuse (maybe also AOR) and has a limited unit cap in campaigns. They can also not be recruited right away but need building up and is missing in the very few turns the most aggressive play is most important. The early game is the topic of this conversation so these dart slingers are not even a part of it. I know they are kind of broken in auto resolve but in a multiplayer campaign, where you have to fight a lot of the battles to not lose so many important troops, they are quite difficult to implement properly because of their limited range and because the enemy player is not piling up their units like the AI always does. Furthermore the enemy has either melee infantry or cavalry in place of these units so your front line can get enveloped or if they have cavalry superiority you are done for anyway. If they take ranged units as well, the probably have a much better range and can decimate your slingers. But all of this doesn't matter because we are talking strategy for all factions and not just one special limited unit that is not even available in the important moments.

    How to offset Empire maintenance?
    Client States, and as a bonus, when you replenish in the client state's territory, since the AI doesn't use the population system, you can replenish your units without subtracting from the population units of your own settlements!
    At least that's what I think happens.
    That aside, DeI REALLY should nerf the 4th class citizen population decline, if you play as Makedon and want to get some Agrianian Peltasts and Rhomphaia Warriors, oops! You can't because there's only a hundred barbarians in every region 50 turns after you conquer it!

      2. Shift to Epirus with your 2 armies and secure Italy (try to max out on non aggressions in the north and trade agreements as well
      3. Build up your economy then either expand up north or go into Greece

      Hey Mike! Thanks for watching :) You can try Roman Legions: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1869459017&searchtext=roman+legion
      You'll need the Extravaganza mod to use it: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1591309907&searchtext=extravaganza
      Not sure how updated these are but definitely give them a try :)
