If you’re in Nassau, you need to take a trip to the Fish Fry for authentic Bahamian food made by the locals. One of our favourites was the conch (pronounced konk) salad.
The Fish Fry, is about a 15 minute walk from downtown Nassau and has so many vendors to choose from. We were a bit overwhelmed at all the choices but ended up choosing the one that felt right! The freshly made conch salad is prepared right in front of you and is absolutely delicious. We love the citrus from the orange and lime.

Agreed !!! I wish I could get fressh Conch where we live. Closest we can make is substituting the conch for shrimp. Not the same - but it's still yummy!

that's it in a nutshell right there, keep it traditional. I know there are people in the Bahamas that are starting to add cucumber and mango, not the style I like at all. my wife and I also do the same with shrimp, although we cooked the shrimp all dente first. fortunately we get fresh conch that comes in on private flights from the Bahamas, it's always a treat... most times the conch's not even out of the shell for 4 hours by the time the plane lands. very fortunate, however we have tried conk from specialty markets that is previously frozen and it's definitely not the same. you can make crack conch with the frozen stuff if you can find it, just give it to sniff test when you buy it at market if it's thawed out... there should be no sour odor to it if they're handling it properly.

You make my mouth run water. I wish I had some of that good looking Conch Salad. I will eat from you anytime, because I see some of the others making Conch Salad without gloves on and their table looks a little dirty. Kudos to you. When I'm back in Nassau, I will look you up. Love you.

It's the best salad. I went to the Bahamas a couple years ago and got hooked to it, the fritters were also to die for. Yesterday I found some frozen conch at a very good grocery store, is it safe to make salad with it?

Awesome!! It was so nice there! We came back and couldn't find conch, so we used shrimp. I'd imagine frozen conch from the supermarket would be good, not as great as fresh from the ocean in Bahamas though!! :D ;)

We’ve done the same recipe with shrimp. It’s obviously not the same, but, still tasty. It’s conch, onion, green pepper, orange juice, lime juice, and a little spicy pepper. Salt and pepper to taste.
