Knife carrying became "normal" in the UK (among certain demographics anyway) for the same reason gun carrying became normal in the USA and the same reason nuclear proliferation is a thing: because if you fear the other guy has one then you feel obliged to have one yourself so as not to be disadvantaged should things kick off. So, the question is: how do you end an arms race?

How do you explain why white people don’t carry knives?

    • @blatherskite3009
      @blatherskite3009 Před 9 měsíci

@@lestrem11 Just because you can be reasonably confident that most other white people aren't carrying knives either. If that changes, white people will carry knives like anyone else.
It's a vicious circle. Once it's in a culture, it's incredibly difficult to get people to stop, because not carrying a knife would mean choosing to go out unarmed into a zone where most others are packing, and that's a death-wish.
And people don't learn from tragic and pointless deaths. Just look at America. Every mass shooting and school shooting is used as an excuse to say they should arm more people, not less.
The only way to stop it now is probably to make it impractical to go out carrying a knife - put detectors on the entrances to as many places as possible - communities, shops, food outlets, pubs, clubs, everywhere - so anyone who's carrying a knife can hardly go anywhere without setting alarms off.

This is not the way forward. The main root causes of violent crime are poverty, economic inequality and drug trafficking. All your solution does is lock up people and ruin their lives without dealing with the underlying cause. The only way we can deal with this issue is by creating a fairer society where wealth is distributed more equally, poverty is eliminated, people feel less alienated from their communities and the war on drugs is ended.

Traditionally swords were carried around and an occasional butchers' knife was used for crime.

I feel proud to be Dutch when I see the arrest team entering the Erasmus Medical Centre in their own jeans and on sneakers. The fastest way to get there: just quickly put the police gear over the cloths you wear at the moment. Because it is profoundly Dutch to always, always prevail pragmatism. We are taught to think . To think for ourself. Speak up. Create your own solution. Never glorify someone or something. Can bring tears to my eyes when I see it displayed in the news.

knives are useful tools, not weapons. Depending on your job here are plenty of legitimate reasons to carry a knife. I see people in the comments statung this is a Black problem. It isn't.
    It's a poverty problem.
I grew up in Glasgow at the peak of the plague of Scottish knife crime and it was caused by poor males (white males) using violence as a way for them to feel like they had respect.
Since those days in the 80s and 90s the knife crime in Central Scotland is far lower than usual due to a huge government initiative at the time that put police focus on the matter and reinforced the message that it's 5 years in prison for just possessing a knife in public.
We need to do this and work on reducing income unequality if we want the problem to disappear.

I would suspect a snail can get dizzy (in that sense) when the antennae are overstimulated? Not sure if that would happen when falling, or if that would result in an upset digestive system, but there's my 2 cents. 😁

Something doesn’t add up. If everyone is carrying for purely defensive purposes who is pulling them out and attacking in the first place?

I think the little english kids r like this now as they feel there is no hope and it has worsened since brexit. There r too many humans on the planet chasing too little. No respect for nature or life. Industrial revolution pple left the land and went to the cities to make money. Now all knowledge of country life how to predict weather looking at the sky, the old sayings etc are all being lost. Myself i carry a pocket knife for working in garden and around house, it is so handy. So a blanket ban will not work. Fishermen, joiners, electricians etc all carry knives for work. Greed has brought down society and when the forthcoming economic crash happens things like this may get worse. Parents work even more hours leaving kids alone even more often and when they do see their parents they will be arguing more and more stressed at thought of losing house because of high mortgage rates. Yep vicious circle.

In 1086 the Doomsday book exposed that 1 in 10 people in England were enslaved, William imposed a tax that led to its dismise.
300 years later the emperor Mansa Musa of Mali visited Mecca with 12000 slaves and sadly today slavery exists in its birthplace within the continent of Africa.
With the thanks of the Squadron we inherited the legacy of the abolition of slavery and that is why hold the opinions on slavery now and not the opinions of other parts of the world where it persists today.

It's not difficult to resolve this epidemic, the gangs and cartels need to be taken off the streets on mass. If the police cannot do this then this will continue forever. Safer areas of the UK have very little gang activity.

What you mean is "It's not difficult to point out the cause of this epidemic." You have offered no solution to the problem, you've just pointed out the cause of it.

When I cook for myself I am perfectly relaxed. I am born a natural cook., prepared food as a three year old. It always tastes great! So good that I lick my plate and compliment myself after I have finished.
When I cook for others it is a banquet and I'm in the kitchen for hours and tired and stressed at the moment of serving. So it does not taste as good to me. It p/sses me off a bit that all these hours of work disappear in two minutes or less. At least stop talking and concentrate on the food please.

Snails can't get dizzy. We get dizzy because we have an inner ear that can detect acceleration and balance and eyes. We get dizzy when we feel acceleration or get out of balance but our eyes tell us that we stand still. Snails don't have inner ears or any ears at all. So they shouldn't get dizzy.
