I am a 73 year old (gentile) woman living in Florida. I have no dog in the race, but I do have a memory--a memory of the Likud statement of purpose (2017, I think), of unlimited Israeli imprisonment, torture of Palestinians, of unjustified execution of Palestinian children throwing stones, etc. Of those who have memories, the position is obvious.
Our great Australian cricketer, Usman Khawaja, wore a black armband for Palestinian dead, in a recent test match and got a reprimand from the ICC!!
What an appalling stifling of an expression of grief
❤
A Palestinian child has been barred from going to School with a Palestinian flag , a small one , on his coat. As its deemed " political". Smh
Yeah, well I agree that wearing a plain black armband should have been allowed. Still, at least the player didn’t get cancelled by turkey for similarly expressing support for Israeli dead and hostages.
Palestinian people have been going through this for 75years. The disgusting act of terror killed 1200, the idf killed 20000 injured 50000 are they both not acts of terror. The idf killed 3 of their own holding white flag speaking hebrew, imagine what the Palestinians have gone through
Everytime I hear someone confidently state that Israel has the right to defend itself I understand it as someone saying the nzais have the right to defend themselves if we were living in those times. How people justify a violent genocidal invader and come up with rights for it is shockingly unbelievable and sadly displays ignorance/dismissal of the rights of those who are at the receiving end of being eradicated and everything they own stolen
Well said

Germany and Israel did this the same way, loads of propaganda, loads of spy’s, lobbyists, and yes, media.
Israelis support their governments actions! When will we discuss that?
James O'Brians lib audience would explode from cognitive dissonance
They voted him in new what he was like
Netanyahu polling should be higher by your logic than during a war time,
Armed struggle by the Palestinian resistance against the occupier is legal under International Law.
Israel isn’t occupying Gaza. They withdrew in 2005. And the West Bank is contested, not occupied.
Yeah but they havnt got no arms to defend themselves
The Balfour declaration happened in 1917, nearly 20 years before the holocaust so the reason for the establishment of Israel wasn’t for the Jewish people, it was for the antisemites in Europe that facilitated the holocaust
It was proto Christian zionism too. The sort that eventually led into the CUFI (Christians United for Israel) of Pastor John Hagee. Read about the Plymouth Brethren and the Schofield Bible.
The Palestinians have been suffering the unofficial Balfive declaration ever since...
@@jimbob-robobDo some studying of this region!
@@jerryoshea3116 big Isaac Herzog fan are you Jerry?
What are you talking about the UN was formed in 1945 so why are you talking about 1917 ?I think you are reading the wrong books .
Why would it break your heart that no one has called in to support Israel’s war crimes against the Palestinian civilians. War crimes be it committed by Hamas or the IDF is wrong…
We need to be hearing from the Palestinian diaspora about what they would like to see for their Homeland.
Israel must continue to exist but not in their current self-destructive form.
They cannot continue to deny Palestinians citizenship under a democratic single state solution or a two state solution.
We cannot allow Israel to continue their apartheid regime. Israel is a spoilt little childish state that requires international guidance.
Since its formation is the result of the UK and US support, we are ultimately responsible for reining in this project.
Well said, I couldn’t agree more! Israel has certainly exposed itself!
On October 7th I was filled with feelings of revulsion for the atrocities and compassion/support for Israel. By as early as October 9th or 10th, that was replaced by outrage at the actions of the IDF and the comments of the spokespersons of Israel. Now I am just angry that the most important people in terms of decision making seem not to recognise that ONLY path to peace is for justice and equality to apply to every single human being between the river and the sea. Two state solution/One state solution, whatever - but there MUST be safety and security for everyone or there won't be safety and security for anyone.
I never had that experience. Israel were behind ISIS.
We have been told about Oct7 ! Never Showed what happened Oct7
@@quanshaw4295 There are certainly some questions to be answered. Many initial reports now seem to not be true. Also the hanibal directive appears to have been deployed with IDF shooting israelis rather than allow them to be taken as hostage. Hopefully the truth will come to light eventually.
“From the River to the sea” is a cry for the extermination of the Jewish state.
So how should Israel have responded?
Palestinians have novright to defend themselves?...no one is mentioning before Oct 7th...put it into context...Norman Finkelstein has studied the conflict for 40 years...he is jewish both his parents survived but the rest of his family did not. Survive the german gas chambers. He is worth a listen to...Same with Gabor Mate..
I second this!
Pierce Morgan should learn
People still condemning them when their actions on the 7th have been mostly debunked and in that case what they did is the conclusion of 80 years of occupation, oppression and abuse. I pity anyone who supports the other side because they’d obviously allow someone to take over their home, and not stand up for their loved ones.
This is also where I lose James.. this ardent position that you can’t even try to understand what or why it happened.. or his implications that it’s a Bibi issue (albeit Bibi is so far the worst of the lot) and it’s this current govt that’s the problem where that simply isn’t the case over 70 years.. he really needs to have a conversation with people like Norman Finklestein

Zionism isn't even a religious belief. In reality, the leaders of the modern Zionist movement that was created in Europe weren't motivated by religion. Many of them were actually secular or agnostic Jews. They saw the Jewish people more as a nation than a religious group. For them, Zionism meant establishing a separate political state for the Jewish nation. Originally Uganda was proposed as a homeland for the Zionist before Palestine. *To put things into perspective, in the year 1891 Jewish people owned less than 1% of land in Palestine,* *where as Palestinians owned 99%. In 1947 that number was still at a low, with the Jews owning below 5% of Palestinian land.
It isnt, it’s a brainwashing campaign that callously plays on the Jewish trauma to promote colonialism
Yes very true!!
I don't see how the land ownership thing can be true, as the land was owned primarily by the ottomans at the time. I don't know how much of modern Israel was owned by people from that area, but it wasn't 99%. can I read your source on that claim?
@@RassalconThe land was owned by the population who were known as Palestinians for centuries. The country was part of the Ottoman Empire for clarity.

Anti Semitism is a red herring there are many Semitic tongues Arabic Aramaic, Hebraic, Phoenician, Ethiopian Aramaic, Semite is a family of languages from the Levant. Judaism is a belief system not a peoples of a nation state.
Everytime I hear the word 'antisemite' I cringe saying there are other Semites too but our media is too simple minded to define their own language
“Antisemitism” was a word coined specifically to mean Jew-hate. It doesn’t mean hatred of other Semitic races. But it’s been in use long enough that I’m sure you know that, or at least how to use Google.
38:50 im of the opinion that was the Israeli governments position before that awful day.
I think they had accepted that oppressing Palestinians came at the cost of innocent Israeli citizens lives. I'm of the opinion that the Israeli government believed the ends, Israel expanding as a "jewish" homeland, justified the means, the death of innocence, be they Palestinian or Israeli.
Edit: i say the "Jewish" homeland because ive seen videos of soldiers/police beating up Orthodox jews.

It amused me when Jimmy nObrain stated that so far he hasn't chosen a side in this war 😆
Right from the start, you've misframed the situation. You compared the deaths/injuries of Oct 7th to the weeks following which of course ignores the victims leading up to Oct 7th over 7 decades.
Asking for ceasefire doesn’t make you pro anything.
There was no bait. The aim was to have hostage/prisoner swap.
Why has @lbc cut out the part at 49:45 where James says he has to add something? I just listened on the app and it’s still there, where he talks about journalist not allowed in Gaza unless they are with the IDF. He also says how 61 journalists who live in Gaza (it’s actually closer to 100) have been killed in Gaza. Interested to find out why LBC chose to cut out the bit for the CZcams version? Would like some clarity on this please @lbc

Prison is a deterrent until you are imprisoned. Some people manage to put it behind them, most become institutionalised. They make friends among the prison population who become useful contacts on the outside. They find it more difficult to make an honest living than get better at crime. Finding the plug not plugged in and still muscling through the intro was almost peak partridge.
Can you explain why you're so dismissive for anyone who sympathises with Hamas? They're a group that literally exists because of Israel's oppression of Palestinans.
James how will a ceasefire lead to another October 7th. There was an October 7th because the IDF got arrogant and thought it could shift its focus to the west bank
Imagine that you are a goal keeper. You have to stop any goal from getting through. The other team have only to get one goal in.
However vigilant a nation is, it will not be able to stop every attack.
@AlexSavillePhoto except you're not a goal keeper you're doing a robbery. You don't steal more than you can carry or you will slack and get shot. Israel may have US and UK backing, and they slowly have been taking more land from Palestinians. With their number of troops they ramped up west bank expansion with official state support
In March 1997, John F. Kennedy Jr. published an article by Guela Amir, mother of Yigal Amir, the alleged assassin of Israeli prime minister Yitzhak Rabin. Guela Amir recalled the Hamas terrorist attacks in the wake of the 1993 Oslo Accords signed by Rabin and provided some evidence that her son was part of an Israeli intelligence plot to remove Rabin and prevent the recognition of a Palestinian state. John F. Kennedy Jr. died two years later in a mysterious plane crash.
“In September 1993, the Rabin government signed the Oslo accords with the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). The accords, and the series of terror bombings [by Hamas] that followed their implementation, brought thousands of previously apolitical Israelis into the streets and onto the barricades in embittered protest. These neophyte activists poured into the pre-existing right-wing groups and placed themselves at the disposal of experienced organizers such as [Shin Bet informant] Avishai Raviv. One of these new activists was my son Yigal.”

@30:11 I need that!!!
Re prison. I was assaulted by police, in front of my 7 yr old daughter. When I said I was going to complain, I was accused of swearing at them. I believe the judge knew the police were committing perjury, but fined me(us) anyway (not prison, but could have been)
Ive not been to prison but did a lot of community service in my youth. I found everybody came up with scams and money making schemes. I remember 3 lads getting together while we were cooking for the oldies and planned a cash machine heist. Following week they were all in new designer clothes.
I believe the conflict has a deeper meaning. I began by believing it was rutting season and human males are violent, but the diversity of deaths makes the back of my eyes itch.
There's something else, and i would like to see autopsies
If you watch him, then you know a lot duh!

Prison .. Seen Brubaker ?
The problem with the prison system and re-offending is linked to the infrastructure and the system. Within the confines of prison, the regime is tightly run with no opportunities to re-offend - the rare cases being transferred to higher Category prison. From this, ex-offenders suddenly are released into an environment where they have to immediately manage their behaviour. There is poor provision for both supervision of this and rehabilitation as well as re-integration into society. Rather than prevention and rehab, the strategy seems to be to place offenders into scenarios whereby they are prone to re-offending and when they do, they are immediately incarcerated. This is the chosen option, since the agencies involved with ex-offenders would rather have them taken off their books and pass the problem onto another party - hence reducing the number of ex-offenders that need to be managed.

a jewish homeland could've been built anywhere, did not have to be palestine. you really think the land where the 3 major religions came from had no people all the way in the mid 1900s? yet the evil colonial mindset saw the people there as poor and subhuman easy to push over like they are in the 1500s. you can critique its existence because it was wrongful in the first place, they use the name "israel" trying to heavily tie it back to judaism so u cant offend them
Most of the early Zionists were Russian refugees fleeing from persecution to Palestine. Colonialism in the “exploit the locals” sense had nothing to do with it. Everywhere is a colony if there’s more than 1 person, but they were looking for somewhere they would not be perseciuted. And Jews have wanted to return home for centuries.
You can’t help but think that as a young man or woman that this atrocity would drive you to join the Palestinian army (much like the Americans after 9/11). Here lies the problem.
Why exclude talks with people who are in support of Hamas? Hamas terrorism is in response of Israels colonialism.
So colonialism worth talking to, terrorism not?
I support Palestinians and their fight for freedom. They haven't been listened to in a long time, this was their only unfortunate way
Hamas and the PA have both created fear societies, where dissent can be met with death. They are not future peace partners. Real freedom needs to come from linkage - the way the USSR was brought down (but without a Putin!).
Israel was not a product of colonialism - rather of refugees fleeing persecution - most were Russian Jews.

Sigh, Obrien thinks hes so knowledgeable & magnanimous, but its only surface level. He takes the first step, & refuses to look around at what the implications are. Its this "both sides" as a form of ideology that is maddening. And i dont mean recognizing humanity of everybody & condemning war crimes. Refusal to acknowledge driving forces & larger historical issues. Not wanting to recognize that Israel has never really been interested in a 2 state solution etc. Not knowing about Israel's "nation state law" or recognizing Hamas & Likud are flip sides of the same coin. He can full face condemn Hamas, but refuses to do the same for Israel when they engage in the same behavior. Israel's government still has a place in negotiating & settlement, but Hamas does not. Either both dont or both do. Israel has done ALL the same war crimes AND MORE, but yet they can be dealt with as honest brokers.
He doesn't refuse to condemn Isreal. ??
