In Dec 1936, Chaim Weizmann told the Peel commision that up to six million j ews in Europe were nothing but "dust in a cruel world" and must be left to look after themselves or be "destroyed." In Jan 1939, Weizmann stopped an agreement between the Nazis and the Jewish bankers of London which would have removed those j ews to safety and preserved their property. He said he wanted only young j ews and only if they went to Palestine. In 1948, Chaim Weizmann became the first president of Israel.
