cibberjockey nope they are that respectful cause in the south the woman controls the house but acts like the man runs the house this is not because they want to screw her they respect her and also know they would get BEAT if they disrespected her in any manner
This whole scene REEKS with racism. The dumb but good natured Uncle Tom black guy ... "Yessim Yessim." Seriously, you don't see that? It's cringeworthy.
@lula _Lilly The real Michael Oher was upset by this scene because she did NOT teach him football in real life. He had actually been playing football for years and received his coaching....from the coaches. The movie most definitely makes him out to be 'slow'. As you put it, he was NOT. This scene in particular does reeks with racism...the white savior comes in to help to poor stupid black person who is too dumb to do it on their own.
Pat Downs idk if you know this, but many people in the South or raised in southern and sometimes midwestern culture are taught to say “yes ma’am” “yes sir” etc. I don’t think there was necessarily racism happening but more just a culture thing. If you watch other parts of the movie, many characters, black and white, say “yes ma’am”
@@mnguardianfan7128 that's Hollywood for ya, always fidgeting with the original story. But to be fair it seems as if the whole basis of the scene wasn't to showcase him being slow but instead narrate his protective qualities as noted at the end of the clip by Sandra "he tested 98% on protective instincts...." Such a brilliant movie, I went out and bought the dvd and also the book telling the true life story. Both are different in parts but I love each one. Have watched the movie many times I love it that much. A real feel good story.
I bought the dvd and read the book as well. Loved the history of football in the book especially the position for protecting the quarterback’s blindside. Great pics in the book too
Sandra Bullock always puts herself down at interviews. I think she is one of the hottest looking women around. Stunning legs and body. Stunning smile and a wicked sense of humour. What more could any guy want?
don't we all wish we had someone who trust and mentor us like this? Many Hollywood movies have this kind of relationship and yet most of us never have these people in our lives and had to figure it out ourselves.
Y'all know that the real michael oher new how to play football since he was 12. He was all American before he ever met the white family. This never actually happened. I dont understand why this movie pretended he didnt know how block before meeting the family. Disrespectful to the real oher.
I remember watching this movie when it first came out and was blown away. I said "Oscar" to myself as the end credits rolled. I think I first saw Sandra in Demolition Man with the cheesy line "Murder death kill" and then a string of kinda light hearted roles followed but she acted the beejesus out of this role.
Not sure how close to reality the movie is - there's been LOTS who question how close to the facts it is, but as far as entertainment goes, the movie nails it!
He tested 98% on protective instincts. I’m confused by this. Did he test at a police dog academy? Who the hell tests high schoolers “protective instincts”?!
Expensive private schools have the resources to do in depth personality and aptitude tests. Surely, they would want to do that first thing on a transfer without much academic success behind him.
He and his foster brother got hit by a car. His brother was miraculously okay not because the airbags... it's because he protected his brother FROM the airbag. He somehow senses the airbag will cause more damage to his brother than the car crash did. He had an instinct to sense danger that will threaten those he hold dear. Problem: it doesn't work on himself. He had a broken arm because of the incident and he didn't tell anyone until the foster mom ask him about it. He doesn't understand he himself is also in danger. That's what protective instincts means.
@@ajwatcher yeah……that’s how Hollywood portrayed it in the film. I noticed that. I didn’t ask for a definition of protective instincts, though. I asked what kind of school tests for that? What a bonkers and invasive thing for an institute of higher learning to test for.
@@joemugly Imagine a mother and she realized her son is clearly unwell. Mentally. But she cannot exactly pinpoint what's what. Would she not have him tested on various things until she find out what's wrong so that his teachers knew how to better treat and teach him? In the film, one of his teachers did exactly that and soon his grades improved.
