    Silly putty as an alternative to masking tape is such a great idea. You have no idea how many problems this will solve for me. Masking tape has been the bane of my existence.

      Poster Tac, blue Tac, masking fluid, are some products you may wanna try if you dislike regular masking tape. It’s so annoying to cut the tape on the pieces you wanna paint because the tape “breaks” and cuts unevenly

    • @Huzaku
      @Huzaku Před 2 měsíci

      @@SamRK-1000 I paint mainly organic pieces. Usually stuff I or someone has 3d printed, I am definitely gonna try all those things because cutting masking tape in the shape of an eyeball is really hard. And masking tape doesn't stick, at all like idk why it's even called tape. I spent 3 hours taping up an aura (for dbz) and the second I started airbrushing all the tape flew off, wouldn't wouldn't stick to itself. I tried the silly putty on that same piece last night and it was so easy. I've never heard of masking liquid but that would help me get those small spots like eyes and lips

    With the ultrasonic cleaner, if you have a way to vent the fumes safely (like a spray booth vented outside, with an explosion proof blower), you can use solvents like acetone in jars. Just put the ultrasonic cleaner in the booth and turn on the fan. If the ultrasonic cleaner has a heater, don't use it, if it has a plastic lid, don't close it (the fumes will melt most of the plastic lids I've come across).

    Great video! A tip on the ultrasonic is I use Zip-lock lock baggies in it, so I don't ever have to clean it out. In the tip you did, you could use a baggie as a liner and when you're done zip it up and take it to the sink. It also allows you to see all the gunk that comes off of something.

    I have both of those nippers. I started out with the purple ones and bought the orange ones in January. I use them the same way you did and am very pleased with them. I’ve used blue tack for camouflage patterns, silly putty who have thought!! Thanks for sharing your experience with us.

    I bought 2 paint strainers direct from NEOECO for $9.62 including postage. I have the Dspiae sander (cost $42.00 direct from Dspiae) which has transformed my model finishing standard. It is such a pain having to keep rubbing down the surfaces and I could never get the narrow angles or curved pieces done until I used this sander. I also bought the DSPIAE - ES-P Portable Electric Sanding Pen for $25 off Green Stuff World. I no longer need my Dremel for modelling which although a good tool it is too fast for modelling purposes. Thanks Rob for demonstrating these products so well.👍

    Sillyputty can be used for highly technical masking work if you sculpt it with dental tools. Im not 100% sure how safe it is to use on solvent based paints. It’s perfect for miniatures with complex surfaces. If you ever have difficulty removing silly putty from a nook or cranny a silicone tipped sculpting tool works like a magnet to pull it out. Remove the putty immediately as the silicone will try to bond to it.

    Something that works pretty well to clean your brushes is the masters soap. I had some brushes that had the hair discolored from using vallejo’s green. The brush was clean but the hair was discolored and used the masters soap and oh boy. It left my brushes as if they were new. Now I use it after cleaning my brushes in the usual way no matter what kind of paint I used. It takes out a lot of dirt from a brush that you consider clean.

    I've had the Dspiae sander for a few months now. It's excellent for getting into tight spaces. 2 things about it to mention: Maybe not designed for this, but the oval shape of the sander prevents it from rolling off your bench. The other thing is that while sanding, if you press down too hard, it will shut off... a safety thing for the sander I'd think, so it doesn't get overloaded.

    for a sander, I like my pneumatic rotary tool, because I can turn the air down so that it has a very low RPM and is much easier to do fine sanding without just tearing out chunks of plastic faster than intended.

    With the Silly Putty: Dollar store silly putty works better IMO. It's usually less viscous than regular silly putty which is worse for playing with but better for using as a mask.

    Nice tips and tool. The silly putty ive known about for sometime, fine scale modeler magazine i believe. Back when i had a subscrition. I sand a lot seams or stepped parts and filler on aircraft models, but i think I will stick to doing it by hand. Knowing me, i'd take too much plastic off with a powered sander. I did buy two of $10.00 Ultrasonic cleaners, going to give one to my wife to clean her jewelry.
    Thanks for the video BR.

    My dad was a doll house builder in the 50s and 60s. He didn't take it seriously when the first Weeble Wobbles plastic houses came out in the 70s. In the 80s, the union replaced his crew with Trolls, but they only knew how to make furniture that you assemble at home. His last words were, "Not MY Dream House!" ... Tragic.

    Glad the cleaner I found is working out so well for you and others! But you're reading the time on the display wrong. It's telling you how many seconds it'll run. 600 is 10 minutes (10 x 60), not 6. It's especially obvious with the 480 (8 minute) setting...

    Paint strainers are useless. If your paint isn't pure, buy better paint.
